Review from HomeOwner Review left on 15 May 2011Rating: 5 out of 5Gabriel and his team were great. We were worried that we wouldn't get the service we wanted because we are a bit far from their home location. In fact, we had personal service from Gabriel and he was tenacious and innovative in finding the solution for our kitchen windows. Hiis price was also very competitive. Overall we had a great experience and I would recommend Excel to anyone. TriciaReview from HomeOwner HomeOwner

I live in a condo corner unit with floor to ceiling windows, and wanted to have roller blinds installed for all of the windows. I contacted several companies who installed blinds in the GTA. Of the 3 quotes I received after an in-home visit, Excel Shades was not only the cheapest but the sales representative (Gabriel) was the by far the most professional and knowledgable about the product. Once I confirmed the order, the blinds were ordered and installed within 10 days. The appearance of the blinds was better than expected, and when rolled up, you barely would know they are there. The blinds are high quality Hunter Douglas, and look great. Very happy with Excel, and would highly recommend their services.Review from Vernis Barnwell Vernis Barnwell

Excel Shades was recommended to me by a co-worker,who had also successfully recommended Excel to other co-workers and friends. On the basis of their overall satisfaction with their window coverings by the company, I called Gabriel. Consistent with the feedback I received from the others, Excel provided excellent service from 'consultation to the installation' of my shutters. In spite of the good things I was told about Excel shutters specifically, I was really surprised when the shutters made a remarkable improvement to the look and tone of my home. I am very pleased and happy that I engaged 'Excel Shades' for this stage of my home improvement. Thank you Gabriel, Carmela and the rest of the crew.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

After doing some research and hearing the excellent reviews about your service and competitive pricing, my wife and I decided to find out for ourselves if your reputation for quality, pricing, service and professionalism was as other customers have remarked. We were pleasantly surprised that it was. Not only that, Edwin did a remarkable job and we commend him on his professionalism, friendliness, efficiency and the courteous manner in which he did his work. Great job, Edwin. Our experience with Excel Shades was just wonderful. The sales person was great at helping us find what best fit our needs. The price was right and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. Excel Shades showed us several different choices for each of the products we were looking for. We’ve now used Excel Shades three times and have referred them to many friends and family. If you decide to give Excel Shades a chance they will prove that they are the best in their business.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

I was referred to Gabriel at Excel Shades from many members of my family that have had their window coverings done by him. Not only did he have incredible knowledge of the products, he was able to understand my decorating style, and find the perfect product to suit my likes. Gabriel suggested custom wood shutters throughout my entire home. I thought for sure this would be well over my budget. Excel Shades competitive prices made it extremely affordable! Gabriel guaranteed 2 weeks till completion and was just on time for installation. The installers were polite and very helpful and courteous! My house looks so beautiful and I have never been more pleased. I will continue to recommend Excel Shades to everyone! Thank you Gabriel!!Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner

I purchased window coverings from Gabriel on November 6th, 2010, and they were recently installed. I must say that overall, working with Gabriel turned out to be a very positive experience from start to finish. I was nervous as to making the correct choices for the windows. Gabriel patiently went through each window with me and suggested a variety of different treatments. He educated me on functionality and light filteration. Together we narrowed down the selections and made great choices. Saying I am happy with the finished product is an understatement. Everything looks amazing, the textures and colours are perfect and my kids rooms are unbelievable. The blinds were delivered in 2 weeks, the installers were great, and most importantly, I remained within my budget. I highly recommend using Excel Shades. I have already given the humber to friends and family, and can't wait to have Gabe come to the cottage this summer to makeover the bedrooms.Review from HomeOwner HomeOwner
Review left on 30 Oct 2010Rating: 0 out of 5Blinds and Shutters new home
Had used Gabriel to install shutters in our previous home approx 20 years ago..and had great service. So of course when we moved into our new home we called again. This time was a totally different story, he didn't return calls, shutters he installed I can not open as they are too large and they hit overhead lighting, with my disability it is impossible to open the shutters, and even my husband can't open due to the design/installation. The shutters are not all the same and inconsistant in their installation - some in the frame some on. Blind ordered came in 3 pieces and installer told us he wouldn't install as it wasn't the correct size. I have tried since the installer was here to get resolution many phone and emails later..have had no call back. Not one call or email since the day the order was placed. His total lack of accountability to the work performed and still outstanding is frustrating especially when I trusted him to complete the job as ordered. In discussion he refers to his high standards and family values. We trusted him he hasn't called once to try and resolve. He has charged my visa without authorization, and the work is still not completed. Have read the response from Excel and find it to be pure fiction. The light in the bathroom was installed at build and the shutters do not open still to this day. The shutters in the basement are not attached to the window and fall over when touched. I wanted from the beginning roman type blinds in the bedroom and upper loft, and after the fact I was told that it couldn't be done. I have nothing to gain from saying anything but the truth and anyone wanting to see for themselves are welcome. Was disappointed that this occured as previous experience was positive. Never resolved, visa was credited back.Answer from pro:
We are very disappointed with the negative outcome of this order and your unwillingness to preserve a 20 year business relationship. As you mentioned, this time things were definitely different. Our professional expertise and guidance was originally accepted at the time of purchase. Although our contract clearly states that no changes or cancellations can be made, based on our previous relationship, an exception was made two weeks after the agreement and changes were accepted for the master bedroom window. When the order was installed, our installer received a $20 tip which typically indicates a measure of satisfaction. Your response after the install was that “you were very happy and loved your shutters” We acknowledged an error was made with your three roller shades and we were prepared to rectify this problem as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, the next day, you immediately broke your contract by reversing the partial payment which was agreed upon in your contract. Your dissatisfaction with “new” issues which you were originally pleased with began. This entire order was placed with no frames, therefore it is impossible to install inside mount shutters on the outside of a frame as you stated. The 30” window with one panel is the best option for a single pane of glass window as it preserves the maximum view. Two panels would be more difficult to operate than a single panel. This was agreed upon at the time of purchase. As for the overhead lighting, clearly it was non-existent at the time of installation as it would’ve prevented the install from taking place. At the time of sale you provided authorization to charge your card for partial payment as stated in your contract which was acknowledged and signed by you. The total value of the outstanding blinds to be remade was approximately $760 and a fair balance of $1000 was left outstanding upon completion of the order. Although you authorized partial payment, you immediately reversed the visa payment for $1000 leaving a new total balance of $2000. Your reversal of payment contrary to your contract is the reason your order has not been fully completed. Upon receipt of payment, we would be more than happy to rectify the issue with the roller shades. As for the shutters, they were made according to the contract. Any changes requested are subject to additional cost.
