    Fixing circuit/plugs and replacing dimmers

We called Hi-Lite Electric to fix a circuit that wasn't working in our kitchen (I had three plugs on one wall that haven't been working ever since we'd moved here). We also had them replace a bunch of dimmers (and a couple of old light fixtures) because our old dimmers didn't work with LED bulbs. They did a great job: they are punctual, courteous, and very professional. Very clear about pricing upfront, and they delivered on everything they promised. Highly recommended.

    Answer from pro:

Hello Pelu, It's always wonderful to hear when a diligent and respectful individual complements a diligent and respectfully mannered company! We make it company policy to provide transparent straightforward pricing in order to assure our customers that they know what amount of money they will be paying before we get started. Providing ethical and trustworthy service is essential to us and we're ecstatic that those plugs are finally working in your home! Sincerely, Paul

    Emergency Panel replacement

Working with Hi-Lite Electric right from the outset was as pleasant an experience as one could have when replacing a panel in an emergency situation. I spoke with Angie and she was very professional, assuring me that she would send an electrician immediately to assess my situation. Matthew showed up promptly and told me the steps required to proceed. Once Matthew and his team (Luciano, Steve, another apprentice) showed up to do the work, they did so very efficiently and effectively. Having them work on my home was an excellent decision, and I would strongly recommend them to any friend or family member in need of electrical work.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Matt, I'm honoured to hear of your satisfaction in using Hi-Lite Electric! We as a company make it our duty to provide our customers with excellent and efficient service. Whenever one of our customers in need are experiencing an emergency, we must assure them that we can get the job done right. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed our method of providing you with that great service starting from Angela in the office and extending all the way down to Matthew, Luciano, Steven, and Anthony out on the field. Also, don't forget to refer any of your friends and family to us so then you can get a boat load of $25 cheques in the mail! Warmest Regards, Paul

    Replace broken circuit breaker

Great service, they explained everything in detail and they were very professional. However, I was disappointed that they charged me $600 for a refurbish circuit breaker; and later found the same part on the internet for only $50.

    Answer from pro:

Hello John, It's great to hear that you enjoyed our service as we always make it a priority to provide excellent service. In terms of the $600 charge on the breaker, that quotation isn't solely based off of the cost of the part as it is the cost of the specialized form of labour. Regardless, I'm elated at the fact of your pleasure in having us do business for you! Warmest Regards, Paul

    electrical repair

Beware of what they don't tell you. On first call, was told of $120 travel charge which I guess they all do. When electrician comes, he tells you of $277 troubleshooting charge, to find out how much repair will cost. No more than 10-15 minutes, informed me it was a Toronto Hydro issue, who he called and they did an outside line repair which is free. So it cost me $277 just for 15 minutes of his time and to call Hydro. On a plus, Matthew the electrician was pleasant and friendly

    Answer from pro:

Hello Howard, I'm disappointed in hearing of your displeasure with our service. With regards to the travel fee, yes, certainly any reputable electrical company will charge that. Now, the single circuit diagnosis is another flat rate fee which our electrician will make sure our customer is aware of before proceeding with any work. Unfortunately, this mode of work seemed to fuel most of your displeasure towards Hi-Lite Electric. In order to perform a single circuit diagnosis, there is not only a need to carry all the required electrical tools, but also be assured that the electrician is properly trained and fully certified. As you can imagine, this certainly tags a price to it. In terms of the duration of the single circuit diagnosis, they can range from short to long. Your single circuit diagnosis was short in duration and that seemed to illude your reasoning process in terms of what you felt the cost should be. I hope you were happy with the work you received from Matthew, as he, being a fully licensed electrician takes pride in the quality and efficiency of his work! Paul

    Outstanding customer service and repair

I found Hi-lite Electric on line when I needed an electrical repair to fix a problem with my oven. This was the best interaction I have ever had when having a repair of any type done in the house. The customer service team on the phone were empathic, professional and I felt that they genuinely wanted to help me. I felt very reassured by them that the Hi-Lite team would be able to solve my issue. When Jeff and Steven arrived (on time) they quickly diagnosed my problem, provided a written quote and efficiently fixed the issue. They even arranged for the city electrical inspection that was needed due to the scope of the work. In future, based on this experience I would only call Hi-lite for any electrical needs.

    useless and overpriced

Had a problem with the power in the upstairs bedrooms going out occasionaly so I called Hi Lite , big mistake. They sent Mathew and Steve , they spent their time looking for loose connections even though I told them that when the power went out there was a sizzling sound from the circuit breakers. After about 90 minutes they couldn't find the problem ,charged $355 and left. In the last few months the problem has gotten much worse and I now have no power in those rooms. I called them again but they said it would be a charge of $299 to get somebody right away or $89 if I can wait 3 days, seems reasonable. Save your time and money , call another company.

    Answer from pro:

Steve, I'm sorry to hear of these unfortunate problems you seem to have dealt with for the service which we provided you just over a year ago. With respect to the $355 you paid, that covered the performance of a single circuit diagnosis. Unfortunately, this diagnosis does tag a price. In regards to your current service call last week, the $299 travel fee was also warranted considering the immediate late hour service you were requesting. It sounds like there may have been an incorrect act of retribution coming from your end. I'm sorry the miscommunication was generated and hopefully this response fills that blanket gap. Paul

    Replacement of outdoor light fixture

Had an existing light fixture that featured a motion and light sensor on it. Over the last several months, the light was not working at night at all. Several cracks have appeared on the sensor as well due to wear and UV exposure. We went out to Canadian Tire purchased a new fixture sans sensor and called Hi-Lite. Matthew came over with his co-worker (in not so great weather conditions) and removed and installed the new fixture on the scheduled date and time. They did a great job making sure it was straight and installed correctly. This was our third time using Hi-Lite and we continue to be impressed with their service and will continue to use them.

    Master Breaker Switch

Damage done to Master Breaker Switch. Hi-lite rep came out and inspected what needed to be done, requested Hydro One to come out to shut off power from the street and fixed the problem efficiently. No requirement on my part except to allow access to the garage where the service was located. Professional efficient and courteous service with appreciation for your business.

    Answer from pro:

Hello, Suzane, it's always a breath of fresh air to see someone care! We, as a company, take pride in providing our clients with professional service that is done correctly. Glad to hear our team at Hi-Lite shared an incredible experience with yourself! Paul

    Excellent Service

Very happy with the job Tyler did for me today. Called the company on Monday and the work was done today, Tuesday. Tyler explained everything to me. The cost was high but I know nothing about the cost of replacing a ballist. In the event I need an electrician again, I will call Hi-Lite. I do think they should not charge the $79.00 service charge when you have the work done.

    Answer from pro:

Marj, It's magnificent to see the value Tyler displayed unto you. Hi-Lite Electric prides itself in providing fast and friendly service to all of our clients, and it's amazing to witness your admiration of that. With respect to the $79 travel fee, both ours or any reputable company will charge a fee in direct correlation with professional, certified, and licensed work. Paul

Very impressed with Hi-Lite Electric's repair service

Matthew & Stephen were very professional and communicative. They came within hours and since they don't charge by the hour, but by the service required to fix the problem, they were thorough in their work and took the time to explain the problem and solution. Before beginning the repair, they sat down and showed me the certificates of insurance, WSIB coverage, the electrician qualifications, and explained the pricing structure. They were organized and did a great job. The price wasn't cheap but you get what you pay for. I have confidence in their work and would recommend their services.

    Answer from pro:

Jade, It's apparent that you've taken a keen interest in receiving evidence of legitimate licensing and educated electricians. Hi-Lite Electric guarantees that any one of our professional electricians will be fully certified, friendly, and ready to tackle any electrical problem buzzing around in your home! Thanks, again for your positive review! Paul
