Fixing the lights in my bathroom

The lights in my bathroom go off intermittently for no reason. Matthew came over and looked at this problem, and a couple of other electrical issues in my home. He couldn't easily find the source of the problem and only charged me a $89 travel fee. I was happy to pay this. I have used Matthew and Hi-Lite Electric in the past. They have been consistently professional with me. I'm hoping to have them replace the fuse box in my home shortly.

    Answer from pro:

Hello, Peter, I hope those lights haven't been causing you anymore problems. It's also pleasant to hear of Matthew's professionalism as quoted by you. Do remember that he'll always be willing to solve any other electrical needs of yours. We may be indirectly hinting at something, give us a call sometime for that panel you got there! Paul

New Panel and Service, First Floor Renovations

Excellent, Excellent family run company!!!! We had Tyler in to do the original estimate. We had a lot of work to do. He was honest and very helpful explaining everything that needed to be done, and how we could go about doing it. We had a full compliment of pot lights installed throughout the kitchen and dining room, several new outlets added, and new lines run, and several lines moved and relocated. We also switched over from a fuse panel to a 125a board, had a new mast and metre base installed, and new ground run. The entire team from Hi-Lite came out on the first day and completed almost everything in one day. They were so efficient and professional. It was a real treat to deal with such friendly people. When you are spending 3 days with a crew, they need to be friendly. Luciano (owner) and his electricians know their stuff. Tyler explained everything he was doing, and dedicated a lot of his time to make sure I understood what was happening, and what will happen. The poor apprentice spent all day in our hot attic, but I didn't hear him complain once, although I'm sure he did, (I would have)! Anyway, I definitely recommend them for any electrical you have. From start to finish, I was impressed. Every day the house was cleaned and left the way it was found, and the work was top notch, and detailed. I always say you can tell the passion an electrician has for their job when you check the screws on the switch plates. Each screw was lined up perfectly up and down. That's a sign that you care. Thank you Hi-Lite. You will always be our go to for anything electrical we need.

    electrical - simple breaker

Had a simple breaker that needed to be turned on - was not informed that just to drive to my house would cost $79 "travel fee" - then $180.00 to tell me that I need to flip the breaker. Would not recommend to anyone - slick sales and big mark up. Not happy with this company at all.

    Answer from pro:

Dan we appreciate your feedback, in regards to the travel fee, we always mention it before we confirm any service call. It is a standard fee to send out our licensed electrician to your home with our truck fully stocked with 1000's of items to ensure we can fix the issue right then and there without driving around for spare parts which saves you time. We also always ask to reset all the breakers when dealing with an item or area not working first, so we don't need to go to your home. Everything was explained over the phone first before we sent our electrician to your home. Once our electrician got to your home, we gave you a straight forward price to evaluate the job and fix it if possible with no extra parts needed. You had the to option to decline the work, but you did sign off on the job and so our electrician started the work. After our evaluation was concluded, we did find that the issue was a tripped breaker and on that breaker there was a code violation. All this information was explained to the homeowner, and none of this would have been found if we had not done an evaluation.

Diagnose and repair lighting fixture issues.

Hi-Lite was contacted with respect to two separate lighting issues. A fixture that had experienced a leak from rain water and the other a fixture that would not turn on. Matthew diagnosed both items and determined that the ceiling fixture that had experienced the leak was not damaged and in good working order. The other fixture had a dimmer switch that no longer worked which was replaced. All company representatives were professional, thorough, knowledgeable and a pleasure to do business with. I have subsequently engaged Hi-Lite to upgrade my electrical panel to breakers from fuses.

    Electrical upgrade

The original request was to have a new chandelier installed. Upon switching support bracket, they noticed a hidden junction box. Having not being the owner at the time of the renovations and seeing a good amount of home renovation shows on HGTV where you learn about the hazards of shoddy electrical work (which can lead to a fire), the cost of the original request quickly shot up because of the additional work required. Sure it can be upsetting to have to deal with unanticipated costs but that is not the fault of the company. They are ethical in their work in that what they do meets "building code" which apparently not all companies follow. Knowing that your home will be up to code and a common risk of a house fire is being eliminated. Unfortunately, it is what a homeowner should budget for after they have moved into a new place. The Hi-Lite electrical team made sure they were available to get the job done over the span of three consecutive days and before the long weekend. They were prompt in showing up when they said they would and put in a full day's work to meet their deadlines. In the end, our electrical was properly wires and electrical outlets were actually upgraded to meet codes that aren't even in effect for another two years and of course, the chandelier got installed.

    Electricians

Mathew and Steven reviewed the fluctuating electrical problem, determined the problem was the line to the house, called Mississauga Hydro to fix the problem, did a safety check of the system while waiting for Hydro to come. Mathew checked everything when Hydro was finished. Everything was fixed. The service was great, very polite and thorough. Paul at the office who handled the call was very good as well. A very professional company I will definitely recommend them to others.

    fixing light fixtures

We spent a lot of money repairing our light fixtures. The first time around the parts they brought were faulty. They left our light fixture open and parts everywhere for a weeks until they finally brought a new part to close the fixture. Within 1 week of finishing the job, the front light fixture started flickering. I have phoned several times about this issue over months and no one will come to fix it or investigate. Apparently if the part that they install is faulty, its our problem and there is absolutely no guarantee. So even after we spent over $1000 we are left with a constantly flickering light. What kind of company doesn't guarantee their repairs for even 1 month. What a complete disappointment!

    replacement of light switch

Intermittently, over the last couple of weeks, we'd turn the lights on in the kitchen and they would flicker on their own with an audible buzz emanating from the switch. This was of great concern to us. I bought the new hardware from Canadian Tire and contacted Hi-Lite Electric. Matthew and his brother came the following day after my initial call to replace the light switch. All is well now and we feel safe again in our kitchen. I took advantage of their $25 coupon as I had work completed previously with them.

    Answer from pro:

Neal, Thank you again for your positive feedback on the services you received by Matthew and Steven! We truly appreciate your repeat business and hope to continue to service any future electrical needs which you may require!

    Electrical Repair in Kitchen

Tyler was terrific. We had an electrical outlet from the previous owner that was unsafe and against code. Tyler and his partner showed up and did a great job at a fair price. I would highly recommend Hi-lite Electric to anyone. They are a professional company that do it right.

    Answer from pro:

Cliff, this "Thank You" for your kind words is long overdue, we are very happy that you were happy with our services again, and that your electrical outlet Tyler worked on is now safe and done to the Electrical Safety Code and Standards, Our #1 Priority is always, your Safety, Security and Satisfaction!
