We were having our old deck removed and a new one put in. The job was supposed to take 2-3 days and it took 4 due to injuries the workers sustained (both on and off site) so it was down to a single guy for the most part. The deck was completed and it looks nice, but it wasn't finished off completely. I was disapointed that some of the old footings that were removed weren't filled in. Although they didn't have the dirt they didn't mention it during quote as an option so it's something we will have to do on our own. I mentioned when they were finishing up on day 4 that the deck wasn't sanded properly and they said they would do it but they didn't for numerous parts. There was shavings left on the concrete deck where they replaced the railings. We can fix these items ourselves but realistically we shouldn't have to. The other item that did bother me was when we went to use our hose today it was disconnected. If they needed the tap they should have mentioned and also reconnected ours -- you may wonder why its a big deal? Our tap constantly leaks. It takes a lot to reseal it. The deck and new railing and gate look good, we just wish it was finished off properly and we didn't have large mud puddles for our dog to dig in. UPDATE: Aug 2017 After reading the review Matt sent someone out to have a look at the deck, the young man sanded everything off and appologized, and although he looked at the hose, he couldn't fix it. My husband fixed it shortly after himself. The young man had a look at what we noticed to be a large crack in the railing stemming from a screw, he was concerned and said he would followup with Matt., this was about a week about the job was done. I gave Matt about 2-3 weeks before calling him. He was busy with other jobs but mentioned he would come out or send someone. I did let him know that it wasn't a rush, but we also needed the supports looked at since they were cracked down the middle. The supports were existing as per contract since it was stated they were reusable. I reached out to Matt again in late August and was informed he hadn't forgotten about me, but was finishing up a large project and would call and come the next day. Matt showed up the following day without a call in advance (lucky we were home) he sanded off the concrete, fixed the gate (The wood must have shrunk in its footing because the post would move and had to be manually held in to close or open the gate) and spoke with my husband regarding the cracks. Matt informed us that the cracks were nothing to be concerned about and perfectly normal, despite his crew member telling us it should have been replaced. Matt asked my husband if I would change my review since the work had been fixed -- hence my update. Although most of the work was fixed, we will be replacing the support beams ourselves since we've had multiple people tell us its not safe and I do not want to risk my children -- the safety was the main reason our deck was replaced to begin with. I still have the mixed feelings regarding this company.... Dan who did the work was great, the other young man (forget his name) that came to fix things initially was also great. Sadly I found Matt not as great to work with, he seemed to put larger projects first and gave off an air of superiority. I believe the deck will hold up for many years (once we replace the supports) Overall... I recommend them if you have a large job to be done and you ensure they do not leave without inspecting everything as getting them back to fix things will take longer.

Hickory Dickory built our cedar deck and privacy screen 11 years ago. We decided to call them this spring to ask about resurfacing the deck with composite. Will, our sales rep was here the following week to give us an estimate. We decided to replace 3 overhead decorative pieces as well. Will came back a second time with composite samples to match our screen and BJ and Will were here to finish the job in early June. They did an amazing job, were so pleasant to deal with, and we would recommend them to anyone!

Hickory Dickory Decks is an absolutely amazing company. We called them to come rebuild our existing deck. Our expectations were exceeded not only with the finished product but with the process as well. They were very tidy and organized! Our overall experience with Hickory Dickory Decks exceeded our expectations from start to finish. Geoff and his crew were extremely professional and kept us informed daily with the permit process and build. Their recommendations from structure, strength and material were A+. We are very pleased with the decks strength and very low maintenance. It's a beautiful addition to our backyard allowing easy access in and out of our pool with plenty of space for tanning and socializing by the pool.

We had our deck built in 2009 by Dan from Hickory Dickory Decks in Ottawa. We still see Dan at home shows from time to time, and we still thank him for the great work he did. Our deck has been maintenance free since it was built (other than re-staining the railings). We would hire them again.

We contacted Steve Hall and explained we had a very tight timeline to deliver a relatively small deck around our new hot tub. No matter. Steve took it on and worked with me through the process. His staff was professional and Steve went above the call to deliver a project we were very happy with. Have already recommended them to some friends.

HICKORY DICKORY DECKS – 115 DUNDAS ST WEST, DUNDAS, ONTARIO The true test of how great a company is can be determined by how they respond to glitches that sometimes inevitably happen. I had had Hickory Dickory Decks build my deck years and years ago, and I LOVED IT, so I had them come back to do the cleaning. Last summer, when cleaning my deck, there was a malfunction with Hickory Dickory Decks’ soap sprayer (which they had been open and honest about) and its focussed spray unfortunately left a graffiti line back and forth over the privacy walls where the soap had been sprayed. While hoping the winter snow would make it fade, I wasn’t that lucky, so I called Hickory Dickory Decks back this spring (a year later) and explained my concern. To me, the deck walls looked messy with that silly line going back and forth over three of the side-wall panels. This stellar company was very responsive to my call, even though it was almost a year after the fact that they had been here. Tom came to see what I was talking about, and he acknowledged my concern and set forth instantly to address it. He had his workers pop by in a timely fashion, re-wash the deck privacy walls and re-sand them. The lines are now gone! My deck looks great again! I was so glad I had called them because those lines would have irked me forever! Their employees continue to be informative, pleasant, respectful, trustworthy, diligent workers and customer satisfaction is OBVIOUSLY still their goal. When addressing my concerns about the lines on the side walls, Pearce and the new guy-in-training (sorry I forget his name) were both lovely. They wasted no time, and checked in to make sure I was happy with the progress and product once the problem was remedied. It was great. I was so relieved! A bottom board had also dropped as they were cleaning and they instantly brought that to my attention. I know; a racoon had been messing around at that panel, and it wasn’t the workers that did it, but it was so nice that they brought it to my attention. They were never defensive, always transparent and just informative, and I was glad that I could confirm for them that the dropped board wasn’t their mistake. It was on our "home TO DO list" to do. Darn raccoons! But it was so nice of those guys to openly bring that to my attention. Nothing is ever hidden. They want everything to be well done and they want their customers to be happy with their results. I am more than happy! My soap sprayer lines are now gone and the deck looks great again! We love our wooden deck and Hickory Dickory Decks has been superb in helping us to keep it in great shape. I guess what I love most about this company is that they are honest, transparent, and have high standards for quality. For less reputable companies, I would have anticipated that because I had paid the bill last summer, getting them back could have been a problem, or perhaps it could have come with an additional bill. For THIS company, that didn’t happen. A year after all had been paid and done, they STILL came back to address a concern I had and they still ensured I was happy with their work and the results. No extra costs, no battles, no fuss. They stood by their word and work. They made sure I was happy with the results. I am thrilled and love this stellar company all the more! I HIGHLY recommend them. Have them build your deck (you’ll love it), and know that they remain loyal to their customer’s satisfaction throughout the process of refurbishing and cleaning too decades later.
