I had to constantly tell HDD to fix things that were done incorrectly and they wanted to take cheep shortcuts that should not be used by a custom deck builder. They also used “building code” as a defense mechanism to justify their mistakes. After talking to the chief building inspectors in 3 major city’s it became apparent that they don’t understand building code. Lastly, they came after me for more money to fix their various mistakes.

THIS COMPANY HAD THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WORKMANSHIP YOU CAN RECIEVE. YES, THE DECK WAS EXPENSIVE BUT QUALITY WAS TOP OF THE LINE. HIGHLY RECOMENNED. WE PURCHASED A COMBINATION COMPOSITE AND CEDAR DECK, THE DECK HAD A PERGOLA DESIGNED BY HICKORY DICKORY. CHECK THERE WEB SITE FOR ALL THE BEAUTIFUL DECKS. (YES OUR DECK DOES APPEAR ON THE SITE.)

Geoff was always pleasant right from the beginning with any telephone, e-mail, or in person interactions. He had several ideas which worked with our budget and our needs for a backyard deck. He always showed up on time and kept us up to date on how/when the job would start and how things were going during the actual job--he is very easy to talk to if there were any questions and always got back to us in a timely manner. The actual deck turned out great too! We had an idea for it to be done a certain way but with Hickory Dickory Decks expertise we realized it really wouldn't have worked out too well and may have cost us more in the long run. The end product is a beautiful deck--a very solid/sturdy piece of work which is also appealing. The workers also were friendly and cleaned up the yard after each long day.

I also met HDD at the Home Show and asked for a quote. Geoff asked many questions to understand what we wanted. He presented an initial design based on what we discussed, and the revised once we told him what we were "really" looking for. The design was perfect. The advice was always just advice, never pressure. We ended up choosing the TigerDeck product, a Brazillian Hardwood, or Ipe. It's the most expensive product around, but was well worth it. Geoff was flexible, honest and prompt. Sam, the installer is a MASTER CRAFTSMAN. His cuts, joints, lines are all perfect. I have since moved to New Brunswick but would seriously think about bringing Geoff and Sam out to do a deck here!

Came out to our new house being built. We told Greg what we wanted and within a week he had 2 different plans made up with quotes and expenses if we upgraded our hardware. We paid a fee of $100 for the dimensions plan we asked for and will receive it back if we have them build our deck. Greg was great and came up with some custom ideas in our price range. February 2007 we met Hickory Dickory Decks at the home show and quickly inked a contract to build a deck and back fence. We were thrilled with the unique design for the deck. One of the things that helped us with choosing Hickory Dickory Decks was that it was part of a larger organization. We were told that this allowed them to use resources in various areas should there be a need. This should have allowed them to meet their commitments. The ground was broken April 23 and last nail went into the deck the first week of June. That was a long time for a job that was estimated to take 7 days. The carpenter would show up and work one day, or half a day, and then not show up for a week in spite of good weather. We would then call Ray Tierney of Hickory Dickory Decks Etobicoke to find out the status and when the carpenter would work on our deck. Commitments would be made and missed. No follow-up came from Ray. Once completed we pointed out that the deck was squeaky. We were told they were investigating this with their head carpenter and they would get back to us. Many follow-up calls and notes went unanswered. We also noted that the composite deck material had bleached out in color. Luckily the decking material needed replacement from the manufacturer (because of the colour bleaching) and this led us to have the joist caps removed (which were causing the squeaking). We were later told that the two materials had not been used together before and were not used for subsequent deck purchasers. After much follow-up we finally had the decking materials replaced in November 2007. The story does not end... in replacing the deck material they forgot to replace the material on the top of the railings, which was of the same substandard composite deck material. So back we go to the company to get this fixed. As I write this, this is the end of January 2008, almost a year from when we inked the original contract. All but one piece of the railing has now been replaced. I hope that it will get done... The biggest frustration in dealing with Ray Tierney of Hickory Dickory Decks Etobicoke was the unresponsiveness and lack of follow-up. Commitments would be made and not kept. There were no calls made to us to let us know what was going on; we had to initiate all communication. We had to go to the head office many times to get resolution. We would definitely not recommend this company... it was much easier to renovate our house (bathrooms, kitchen and structural changes) compared to getting a deck built by Hickory Dickory Decks Etobicoke!!!

The deck was on uneven ground, and the team from hickory dickory decks knew exaclty what to do and how to get the job done right. If we ever need another deck they would be the first people we call. great job, and i am on the deck as i write this review!

We met Hickory Dickory Decks at the Toronto Home show and looked at samples of their work and photos. They came to the house and gave us an estimate and discussed the project with us; they answered all our questions well and stayed on budget for the job. They finished the job on time and their follow up was excellent. They cleaned up after their work, they stay in contact with us each year to see whether things are still satisfactory (so they didn't just come and grab their pay and then leave!)

Pay a little bit more but you got what you pay for. Variety of products and their specialty is decking so extremely knowledeable. They won't be the cheapest but I'm really happy with the end result.

We wanted a beautiful deck for the backyard. Decided to try HDD. First with a small fence and gate. Bottom Line? We are now going over various places for a new deck with HDD. Great work Jeff!
