We are extremely pleased with Sonoma Contracting and recommend Mike and his team to anyone doing basement renovations. We gutted our old basement ourselves and then obtained four quotes for our project. Mike was the only contractor we did not find through a personal connection, contacting him solely based on his positive Homestars reviews. We were impressed with Mike from our very first meeting and were thrilled that our first impressions were so accurate. Mike and his team lowered our basement floor, repoured a new floor with new drains and sump pump, replaced two old brick posts with two steel posts, moved duct work and a doorway, converted a previous cold cellar into an insulated/finished laundry room, and then finished the rest of the basement as an open concept family room with office area, closets and a 3-piece bathroom. Mike himself is very easy to work with, works long hours on site, has great attention to detail and a good eye for design/finishing. In addition, he has a team of tradespeople that he works with consistently on his projects (Aldo, Gino, Louie, Mike, John, etc.) that may be his biggest advantage. He knows that their work is up to his high standards and they have the experience and motivation of working with Mike on an ongoing basis. As a team they are extremely hard working (dug the whole basement by hand without even a conveyor) but also added extra value to our project by proactively making suggestions regarding our design and finishings that we hadn't thought of (e.g. changing closet and pot light layouts). They are friendly, considerate and tidy when on site, taking the time to clean up at the end of each day. Our two-year old son still talks about them and roleplays as Mike and Aldo doing renovations in his basement! Every renovation has surprises and challenges and we found Mike to be very flexible and accomodating at these times. When a particular issue arose that Mike knew we were not expecting, he went out of his way to keep the incremental cost as low as possible and give us the final result that we all agreed was best. Mike's estimates and quotations are comprehensive and reasonable and I would be wary of anyone who is able to significantly undercut his prices. A great experience that we would not hesitate to repeat.

We hired Sonoma Contracting to demolish and finish our basement. Mike, Aldo and crew did a phenomenal job. The work they did at every stage exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t be happier with the end result. It was great dealing with Mike. He is honest and extremely responsive to emails and phone calls. He was on site every day that work was being done to oversee to the project. His crew is very tidy and hard working. Mike and his crew worked very hard to get the basement completed in advance of our deadline and finished early just before the arrival of our second daughter. He had a lot of great ideas and went the extra mile to give us our dream basement. Upon final inspection of our basement, the inspector commented that is was one of the finer basements that he had ever seen. A true testament to Sonoma's professional capabilities, commitment to quality and determination to work hard to make their customer's happy. Thank you Mike, Aldo and Team! Very nice quality of work. Very neat. When finished, great job on clean-up. Polite and seemed honest and very willing to talk through many options to help us decide what was best for us. Hardworking guys. I will be submitting my final photo's for his portfolio soon.

We used this company to renovate our split level basement. The reno required the use of a support beam, moving of drains, a bathroom and laundry facilities. Significant electrical wiring was also performed. We are very satisfied with all work done by Mike and his team and would highly recommend the company. We will also use Sonoma Contracting again for upcoming renovations.

We found Mike through Homestars and we’re so happy we did. We wanted to take our unfinished, dark & spooky 1920s basement and make it a place for our family to relax and play. Mike did a fantastic job and we’re thrilled with the results. He completed the work on time and on budget, and had excellent suggestions and solutions to whatever minor hitches and design challenges emerged as the work progressed. He’s honest, fair, helpful and a really hard worker, and his attention to detail is terrific. As well, all of the trades he brought in were excellent: they did great work, and were courteous and nice guys to boot. We’re so happy with our new basement and would highly recommend Mike. We’ve dealt with different contractors/renovators before, and this was by far our best experience. Mike is the real deal.

Throughout the entire project, Mike was professional, flexible, articulate, reliable and very personable. He provided us with reasonable suggestions to work within our budget and the final project was completed on time and on budget. As the project progressed, Mike always ensured that the quality of his team's work met his high standards and he always kept close attention to all the details. We are very happy with the completed project! The quality of the work is exceptional and Mike and his team were a pleasure to work with! I hired Mike after reading the reviews on the Homestars site. Mike is very organized and efficient. His pricing for the basement demolition compared to the others was exceptional. His crew worked hard from 7am to 11 pm to finish the whole job and they still had a great sense of humour at the end of a long day. Mike is very flexible and really easy to talk to. We are very happy with his work.

After a raw sewage flood in December 2007, four days after moving into our home, the previously "renovated basement" needed to be redone.We had initially hired someone to do the work, but did not get a great vibe from him. Our realtor suggested we seek out help from Homestars. We did our research and thankfully found Sonoma Contracting. Mike came to give us an estimate and we found him to be a very professional, knowledgeable contractor. We had heard horror stories regarding contractors and were very reluctant to trust anyone. Mike made everything seem effortless and made suggestions that made sense for our space. Mike and all his crew were courteous, reliable and provided a sense of humor during the course of the renovations. Even during a very difficult family time Mike was available and took little time off from the project. We cannot thank Mike enough for the tremendous job he did. Aside from a few unexpected plumbing pipe issues his quote was on budget and the project completed on time. We are thrilled with our new basement and have already recommended Sonoma Contracting to friends. We will definitely use Sonoma Contracting for our next renovation project without hesitation.
