    Wood fireplace smoke issue

    Adam was punctual, we discussed reasons for smoke blowing into the room rather than vertical into the flue. Adam fixed the sampler that wasn’t closing properly, we tested the smoke issue and reviewed what to do to avoid the issue in the future.

    Well done service

    First time using this company Adam did a great job! He is very professional and clean. He also gave us some suggestions on how to Use and maintain the fireplace and Chimney. We are happy with the service!

    Great job!

    We changed the schedule a couple times and they accommodated without a word. Adam called before coming, and his service was thorough and efficient. Even provided some safety pointers to us. Recommended!

    Service not as thorough this year

    We've used Top Hat for several years for annual chimney cleaning. Greg has always been our sweep. He was very thorough and explained everything that he did, including what he found inside our chimney (mostly spider webs). He would go up on a ladder to inspect the exterior of our chimney. This year, Adam came instead to clean and inspect our chimney. He was very quick and tidy, but didn't comment on the condition of the chimney interior. He was focussed on pointing out a crack on the exterior of my chimney. He said it might or might not get worse through the winter, and it should be repaired. The "crack" turned out to be nothing more than a line of old caulking left when the old flashing was replaced in 2014. If Adam had actually gone up on a ladder or on the roof to inspect the chimney closely, he would have seen there was no crack. In future, I'd prefer to that Greg come to clean/inspect our chimney.

    Chimney Sweep

    We have used Top Hat previously ... and Adam did a great job! The work was very professional ... and the job was was clean and tidy after when the task was complete.

    Chimney Sweeping/Cleaning

    I would hands down recommend Top Hats, from booking the appointment to the Adam the service rep that came to my house - I was very happy with the services performed. I would definitely recommend and refer this company. Even though the chimney was not cooperating Adam was determined to fix the issue and succeeded. Great overall experience with Top Hat Chimney's

    Chimney service

    Overall this was a great experience. The staff were really helpful and they did a great job. Would use again, would recommend.

    Upsell and Overpriced

    I originally called Top Hat because my chimney damper was stuck, and they came to clean the chimney. They originally told me that it would cost $75 fix the damper + $155 to clean the chimney. Everyone else just said they would clean the chimney, and so when I asked Top Hat just for a chimney clean, they agreed. When the technician did come, he had to play around with the damper and ended up charging me the $75 again anyway....fine... What bothered me was that he pointed out all these extra things I needed to get done. Later on, another technician, Mike, called to quote on these extra items. He was extremely rude - when I told him I didn't need one of the items, he insisted I did. I told him I had consulted a building inspector as well as a fire & code consultant who told him I didn't need those things, to which he rudely exclaimed, "Well they're WRONG!" Then, when I asked him to quote me for a chimney cap, he said it would be $350-$450. Two other quotes I got were for $175, half the price! One other company even said they had cleaned the chimney for the previous owner and said it wasn't necessary to have a chimney cap since my chimney was so tall. I definitely did not appreciate all the up-selling and the rudeness. I would not recommend using them.

    Hi Grace. I'm sorry that your experience with our company was less than expected. A Basic Visual Inspection is part of our regular chimney sweeping appointment. Aside from the actual cleaning, informing the homeowner of any potential issues with their wood-burning system is an important part of our service, and most homeowners are welcoming of this information. As far as our pricing on additional work, we find that we are always competitive with the other couple of ESTABLISHED companies in the GTA. In general the only companies that can offer a lower price do not have our level of experience or expertise, and can't offer a meaningful warranty. In defense of Mike, he is has been with Top Hat Chimney for over 20 years and I can honestly not remember the last time that I received anything but positive feedback about him or his work... I really think this may have been an unfortunate case of miscommunications. In any case I am happy for your feedback as we are always trying to offer the best service possible.     Chimney Repair

    This company was well priced. They arrived on time, and worked through the heat. They cleaned up after they'd finished, even washing down the driveway. We are very happy with the finished results, and would definitely recommend them.

    Chimney fix

    I used HomeStars service to look for a chimney fix. Top Hat Chimney was one of the companies, who responded. They made competitive price and come after few days to make a job done. They fixed chimney and fixed a minor foundadtion defect which a have on one of the house corners. All work done in a timely manner and very clean. Below pictures before and after. I hightly recommend them.
