Ok, first off.... I'm a little suspicious about the pattern of reviews of this company on Homestars. A string of ZERO or near ZERO ratings followed by another string of PERFECT 10's?!? Comon! It's quite obvious that the company is writing fake reviews to combat all the negative reviews.... If true, it's quite pathetic!
Anyhow, enough of the above rant. On to my review.
Overall, this company has performed all duties as promised. They showed up when they said they would. The applied the treatment they said they would. And left very informative notes about the type of treatment that was applied and instructions for me to follow (i.e. no watering for 2 days....etc.). From the perspective of doing what they promised to do, I am satisfied.
Now...onto effectiveness of their treatments.
AERATION: effective (overall quite happy)
Fertilizer: mostly effective (overall satisfied)
Weed Control: completely ineffective
Ok...I'll just comment on the weed control aspect. To sum it up, it sucks. There was absolutely no measurable reduction in the number of weeds....in fact, there are more than ever. I would say that their weed control is about as effective as a bottle of Weed-B-Gone.... (which is to say....it does really nothing unless you're applying it almost daily).
I originally contracted with Weedman to control the weeds, primarily. Aeration and fertilizing were just add ons. For them to fail miserably on the weed control aspects was very disappointing. Enough so that I cancelled my contract with Weedman.
Perhaps it's not totally Weedman's fault. The government did ban all use of pesticides/herbicides. Weeds are running rampant throughout the entire province. So I understand that it's an uphill battle. I guess it was just wishful thinking that I thought that Weedman had a little secret weapon, so to speak. But it turns out....not so much.
Anyhow, a little word of advice for those who want to cancel their agreement with Weedman:
Weedman makes it VERY clear that they are a continuous service company, which means that they will keep coming back to service you (and bill you) until you tell them to stop. And you can't just "tell" them to stop.....you have to provide WRITTEN notice. Read the Consumer Protection Act (2002) carefully.... follow proper procedures. Don't be IGNORANT....and then blame Weedman for it. If you want consumer protection, follow the proper protocols and you will get your protection. I did it, and Weedman never came back. They do call back frequently to ask if I want to sign up for services again, which is fine because they were always very polite and professional. I just politely decline.
Anyhow, on their aeration and fertilization services, I can recommend them. On their weed control services, I cannot recommend them.
Sorry guys....I'm convinced that the only effective means of weed control is to yank them out by hand....then maintain a healthy lawn....lots of overseeding....re-soiling....careful fertilization and efficient watering. I'm doing this now for the first time....and this year, my lawn has never looked so good! Like a fluffy green carpet! Weeds are now fewer and far between. They are smaller too....and so easy to manage. Its like a battle between weeds and grass...take good care of the grass and they will fight the battle for you.
That's the secret, my friends...
