If there was an Academy Award for renovations then The Home Improvement People would win hands down. From the moment we contacted the Home Improvement People we felt confident that we were in good hands. Their very practical advice and approach to finishing a basement in a century home, put us at ease right away. Charlotte's brilliant design, Trevor's superb project management, an outstanding renovation team, and experienced tradespeople resulted in a spacious, functional, not to mention beautiful basement that far exceeded our expectations. At the heart of this renovation was Trevor, our project manager, and his attention to detail, responsiveness, and dedication to our project was exemplary. He kept the project moving, helped us make informed decisions along the way and was never satisfied until we were.

This was our first time doing a renovation, much less such an ambitious one, turning a condo we had bought into something that would really be our space. From the very start, they were amazing to work with. Elia and Steve were grounded and open, easy to plan with and extremely up front with what we needed to do, and how things were going to play out and cost. We had them refinish the cabinets in the kitchen, remove the popcorn ceiling, replace all of the floors, paint all of the walls and coordinate the installation of the new countertop and appliances. They got in and managed to complete the project faster than we expected and entirely within budget. Getting changes made was always simple and gracefully woven in. We were given a good assessment of things we may need to work on in the future, and near the end of the project, they reached out to us to do an early walkthrough and come with a list of any touchups before wrap up! It was such a thoughtful, detail minded crew and the craftsmanship of their work was exceptional. I would heartily recommend them to anyone considering a full package renovation who would like a great deal of peace of mind.

We approached a few (3) different companies for basement renos, but upon meeting the team at Home Improvement People, specifically Elia, he brought a great mix of knowledge, professional curtesy and were very personable. We had a fully unfinished walk out basement that we were looking to get fully done, in a semi-premium manner due to it being a walkout. After the quoting process with Elia, we were provided a pretty detailed quote, and were offered the service of a designer upon a small downpayment (respectivley small) which also really helped bring the vision to life as to what our concrete basement could end up looking like. After we pulled the trigger and set a date we met the foremans on the job Carlos, and Christian. Carlos was initially our primary contact during the framing / early stages, he provided amazing insights with his experience and help shape our basement. He was instrumental in helping us navigate how bulkheads would look, best practices in how to do them, helping define and shape rooms. He ended up, through discussion, expanding and redefing what was my office in the basement as well, and I couldn't be more pleased as to how this turned out. I'll forever be pretty grateful towards Carlos, as I live in this office 10 hours a day and it's frankly way better than our initial design / sketch. On to the next phase. As all things go, nothing is perfect, there were a couple of concerns that ended up arising with some of the sub-contractors, over time I had built a good repor with Elia, Carlos and Christian, and simply brought it to their attention. They were immediately "let's get this fixed" and sprung to action and resolve / remediatied any concerns that popped up. On to the fit and finish phase where we were primarily working with Christian as our point of contact, again nothing but great things to say about working personally with these guys, any time I was bringing something to his attention in regards to something like painting inconsistenacies, or pot lights etc he was immediately resolving concerns as they arose. His own work was top notch, and you can tell treated it like he was remodeling his own house with care, versus just "doing a job". Both of the foremans really assisted in bringing the vision to life, and also using their own best practices and experience to the table in helping shape the final product. This may come across as a fluff piece, but genuinely if you're going in blind to this process, whether it's your first reno, or you lost contact with "your guy", I 100% suggest giving these folks a call. They have a great degree of honesty and integrity, you won't be dissapointed. Extra tidbit; The reno has been done for about a month, for reasons completely unrelated to the renovation, my upstairs kitchen fridge sprung a leak and went into our basement from the ceiling. We gave Elia a call, who not only took our call, helped us asses if there was likely to be damage, told me what to look out for, and offered to send some guys out in the new year to repair or tidy anything that may have happened. Luckily they installed an access panel right where the water vampire was and there was seemingly no damage. This is a great customer satisfaction piece. tl;dr If you're new to this process or otherwise serious about getting something done (my basement) contact Home Improvement People.

We reached out to the Home Improvement People with a bit of a situation. While we have been thinking of renovating our main floor bathroom for a while (existing version is 26 years old), we weren't quite there yet. Recently we noticed a watermark on the ceiling from the bathroom above (also 26 years old). That created the situation mentioned. Jerry was sent to meet with us on Thursday. Didn’t make sense to tear out the roof to fix the leak and then just patch it up. We discussed what we wanted to do renovation wise at the same time. Having added an HE furnace, the chimney was no longer needed which would add a bit of space to a very small room. A portion of the roof came down Tuesday morning and as Jerry started looking at what the problem was, the leak got much worse. Timing couldn’t have been better. He did the demo, disposed of garbage, and then got started on the real work. We moved the sink, put in a longer shower, and replaced all the ceramics. He had projected 2 weeks and was a day less than that. Pricing was as quoted. We can’t say enough about Jerry. So thorough that he put up all the towel bars as well. Excellent workmanship and tremendous personality. We would recommend him in a moment.

It was a pleasure dealing with The Home Improvement people. We have a relatively new home but were not happy with much of the main floor. Larry the project manager helped us come up with a plan to upgrade our Living Room / Dining room area, main floor powder room and our study for a very reasonable price. Most importantly for us living in the house - they were very timely and clean. I would highly recommend using them.

Hi All, We didn’t realize how much we missed you guys. It was great to have you back to complete the part of the basement that wasn’t already completed. We finally saved up the money to do built in closets and flooring and it was worth every dollar. It’s such a pleasure dealing with the entire gang. All the best!

This is the 2nd time we have used HIP. They come as advertised. We love our new bathroom. We had a wonderful experience and look forward to using them again shortly to finish our master bathroom.

We had a great experience with Home Improvement People overall: from the initial meetings with Elia, to the design with Charlotte and the construction with Steve, Mario and Marcus. We appreciated their advice of using an architect pior of giving an estimate, it permitted to get more clarity on the scope of the project and avoid surprises. We created a brand new bathroom, renovated the living room and master bedroom, refinished the basement, among other things. Charlotte understood our vision and provided great guidance and advices at every stages. Steve, Mario and Marcus went above and beyond to deliver the project in time, always willing to try atypical ideas and finding solutions when needed.

In the Fall of 2020, we decided to renovate our basement into a secondary unit. I called 3 different contractors to provide quotes and The Home Improvement People where the last one’s I called – and very happy I did. Elia was our estimator. Elia was very personable and provided an honest opinion of what the scope of work would entail. He suggested we consult an architect to create the desired layout as well as for permits such that he could quote us accordingly. This was suggested in our best interest as it saved money on the permit process and it got us the best realistic pricing with no surprising fees. What we also liked about The Home Improvement People was the inclusion of designer services which made things so much easier. Our designer was Shannon who did an amazing job from the onset of the project. Shannon worked with us on the concept, provided suggestions, assisted with colours/finishes selections, and providing us with renders complete with pricing. Since showrooms were closed when our project was scheduled to begin due to the pandemic, Shannon came to the house with samples – this was great because we got to see the samples up close not just in a picture and made the whole experience that much better. It was great to have her as the designer on our project and highly recommend her services. Our project started on schedule and our project manager was Steven. I cannot say enough about Steven and his crew. From the start of the project to finish (and included some setbacks along the way due to the pandemic) Steven and his crew were amazing to work with. They are a group of very skilled professionals, friendly, and very respectful of the house. They cleaned up every day before leaving which was great. Steven clearly explained the step-by-step process and answered all our questions while also providing some suggestions. The quality of their workmanship is outstanding. We are extremely happy with the result and would definitely use them for any future projects. Fantastic Job HIP and keep up the great work and customer service! Highly recommend!

In Spring 2020, the HIP renovated our master bathroom ensuite. From start to finish, it was a perfect experience working with this company. Elia and Gerhard were thorough, organized, and provided great advice for our project. Our crew, Nadia, John, and Elvis, were amazing, hard working and talented. All areas - tiling, painting, planning the work efficiently, installation of fixtures - were done with a high degree of precision. The crew was also very personable, and they listened closely when we had questions or concerns along the way. They cleaned up well at the end of each day. The end result turned out exactly as we hoped it would, and the whole experience was stress free once we started working with the HIP. Our master ensuite is now the nicest room in our house. We look forward to working with the HIP on future renovation projects.
