Closing up an old unused window under the deck

We were having waterproofing and weeping tile done around the house. There was an old unused window under the deck and the company doing the waterproofing suggested that it be bricked up properly. I called Tony as he had done excellent work on two previous occasions. The company doing the waterproofing wanted to get on and finish the job so Tony came right away and did the window. I can't recommend Tony highly enough - he turns up when he says he will -he is knowledgeable -does an excellent job - is reasonably priced - and pleasant to deal with.

    Answer from pro:

Jane, Thanks for for the review(again) and having me back, I feel like part of the family now. Tony.

    Chimney fill-in

We just had some chimney work done by Tony from Straight Up Masonry and we are very satisfied with his work! Our home was built in the 1890's when its only heat source was a wood burning stove in the basement. 4 years ago we exposed the brick and have finally gotten around to having the chimney's properly filled-in. Tony was 15 minutes early, very polite, worked clean and cleaned up after his work. Not to mention that his actual brickwork is polished. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Tony to anyone, or hire him back ourselves! Thanks Tony!

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Rachel, great idea of exposing the brick, glad your pleased with the final product. Thanks for the review Tony.

    Brick repair

From the first call I made to Tony to the beautifully finished job, he was a joy to do business with! He really cared about the work he was doing, and was a true professional from beginning to end! Thanks so much for doing such a wonderful job!!! I will definitely recommend Straight Up Masonry to family/friends for any future work they need done, and would use Tony's services myself in the future! Thanks again!

    Enlarging concrete/brick doorway

We recently bought some standard 27" wide laundry machines to replace our old apartment sized ones. The problem came when we realized the door to the laundry room was 26 3/4". After we called "Straight Up Masonry," Tony and his associate came that afternoon and we decided on the spot to hire them to do the job. As two women in our 20s, we get all sorts of inappropriate responses from building/contracting/service people, from eye rolling, to asking us where our husbands are, to one man demanding we bring our dads to speak to him. In contrast to that, dealing with Tony was a breath of fresh air. He did not pressure us, respectfully answered any questions we had, involved us in decision making throughout the process, and went beyond the call of duty by moving the two 90kg machines into the laundry room for us. Even when an unexpected issue had arisen, Tony rolled with the punches and explained to us our options. While he had to do more work, he didn't mention raising his fees at all. Overall, it has been a great experience and I won't hesitate doing business with this company again.

Thank you Flora, this has been on the the nicest compliments and reviews I have received again thank you very much, Tony.

Brick replacement and clean-up of indoor Chimney stack

Tony is easy going, affordable and hard working. He did a great job for us fixing the stack in our newly renovated kitchen. We were concerned about the amount of mess this job would create. Not only did Tony do a great job containing the dust he did an excellent job of cleaning up afterwards. He got to our job quickly, was easy to talk to, considerate, honest and most importantly the job looks great. We are very pleased.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Ian, was my pleasure, good luck with all your new projects. Tony.

Chimney Rebuild / Pillar Rebuild / Miscellaneous Masonry Work.

TONY = Integrity, Intelligent and Honesty for his work!!!!! Property is located in East York, Ontario (Victor from Boston MASS, USA). Chimney Rebuild / Pillar Rebuild / Miscellaneous Masonry Work. I own a house in Toronto and when I needed to do some work on it Tony’s (Straight Up Masonry) estimate was the most justifiable out of many contractors. He also had a thorough knowledge of the work. Tony was very up front regarding the date of start and finish. Everything he said was done accordingly. The work was performed without me present on the property which was a plus for me. We only communicated via phone and email. The verification of work was performed by my brother and a realtor; they said “the workman ship of Tony was “superb”. I will be recommending him (Straight Up Masonry) to all.

    Answer from pro:

    Re-bricked a pillar

I don't really have anything to add that the other reviews did not already say. Tony was honest, better than competitive in price, a true craftsman. He came when he said he would, did the work he said he would, and did it better than we had hoped. His bricking matched our house exceptionally well despite being told by two other masons that our style of brick could no longer be matched. You don't get this kind of work much these days; a throwback to when it was a craft that men took pride in. I am going to call him again to look at our chimney.

    Answer from pro:

Sills to be installed under Windows

Professionalism and trustworthy are the two best words to describe Anthony and his team. From the initial meeting to the final product he was informative, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with. No surprises, and he kept us upto date on exactly what/when the work was going to be completed. His price was very reasonable and work was exceptionally good. Thank-you Anthony and Straigh Up Masonry! for job well done. I have already recommended you to my contacts.

    Answer from pro:

Amir, really enjoyed working on this project, cant wait to the spring when we come back to see the new windows and doors, Thanks Tony.

New window and door cutouts, and brick repair

Tony and Kevin did an amazing job on cutting out a number of new windows and doors at my house. During the back door cutouts, the bricks were crumbling and the back wall looked ready to literally fall down. Somehow, they managed to get the lintel in and prevented it from happening, and fixed a number of the cracks. This was great news for me, because based on experience, houses don't function very well with three walls. I'm likely getting Tony back to build a new house for my parents, and also to help me with a bungalow top-up. Well done.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Thano, it was definitely a close call and I am glad your house still has a south facing wall, cause the breeze from the lake would not have felt good during the christmas dinner, seriously, glad we could help carry out the work that just improved on your home. Talk soon Tony.

    Pillar Replacement

Tony was a pleasure to deal with. He got back to me quickly and came right out to provide an assessment and quote which he stood by. Our century home pillars which support the front porch overhang were beginning to lean leading us to believe that a foundation below the frost line was likely not in place, causing our problem. When Tony arrived to begin work (even earlier than scheduled) he got right to the bottom of it (pun intended) and laid a new foundation before replacing each brick pillar entirely. The new pillars are solid and superb and I'm sure will last another 100+ years. Tony provides solid, reliable work at a competitive price. I'd wholeheartedly recommend Straight-up Masonry.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Aubrey, cant wait to see them with the new wooden columns on them. Thanks Tony.
