    Coach house conversion project

I contracted OGC to convert my garage into a coach house. OGC has a fantastique planning and design team. From the very start, they understood my project vision and really helped bring it to life. Once the design was chosen, and the details ironed out, I really appreciated that every detail of the project was itemized on a Scope of Work document. There were no unexpected surprises or project cost creep that wasnt fully understood and discussed. All projects have their rocky moments, but OGC did a great job smoothing out those bumpy stretches with knowledgeable project managers who dealt with issues promptly.

Misrepresentation, verbal promises, iems missing from documentation

I tried hiring Ottawa General Contractors. They came, and I gave them a written document with our requirements. He sent someone the next day to take measurements. He wasn't given a valid/correct address, and he had to call to say he was lost. I told him to get our address fixed. They did floor plans and spec diagrams of the reno (and charged us for them). We had numerous emails and visits to plan our reno. The first Scope of Work Document (SOW) he gave us had half our requirements missing. The address was still wrong. Each subsequent SOW had a few of our list added and others still missing. After three SOW's there were still things missing, and our address was still wrong. Numerous verbal promises were never put it writing. Then he emailed us a "boilerplate" document to sign, and the email said "not all of it applies to you". And I was supposed to sign it? The final contract very clearly stated that they would not do one of our written requirements (that was one of many deal breakers). It also still had the totally non-existent address, naming a street we don't even live on. So I have plans I paid them for that are of no use to us now. I have my original requirements, a string of emails, three inaccurate SOW's, a boilerplate document, and the final contract to prove everything I have said here. There's one thing I can't prove since it was all verbal. He presented himself as an engineer (told us he was). After fifteen minutes of further conversation ha admitted that "he doesn't have the ring". My understanding is that a certified/qualified engineer has the ring. So he misrepresented his professional qualifications. They were confused when I refused to sign the contract.

Open concept first floor, new kitchen and HVAC

After serious consideration, I give OGC a 10/10 rating. Not because all was perfect without effort, that would be a 9 out of 10, but because OGC and I worked towards results I did not even imagine. Yes, the experience and end product went far beyond my expectations from the planning to the lived in look and feel. My house increased value beyond the investment, with a unique modern look thanks to the architect, designers and everyone on the OGC team. Phase 1 of my reno, an entrance addition was completed last summer. The amazing results made me ask OGC to pursue with Phase 2, open concept kitchen. I continued with OGC because if something is not right, the Project Manager ensures it is fixed to the customers satisfaction. I highly recommend OGC for their patience with my questions and changes, their explanation of options, recommendations, expertise, workmanship and attention to detail. All that deserves a 10. Chantal

    Main floor renovation

We hired Ottawa General Contractors to do a complete renovation of our main floor. Almost all of the inside walls were removed to create an open concept. The process went smoothly from start to finish. If any issues did arise, they were handled quickly and completely. Our project manager (Adam Radmore) was on top of everything and was very helpful in answering any questions we had along the way. Would highly recommend OGC to anyone looking to renovate their home.

    Basement Project

I recently had my basement renovation done by The Ottawa General Contractors; and I am very satisfied with the outcome of the project. My appreciation goes to all the teams that are involved for their immensely contributions to the completion and the success of the project. My special thanks goes to the project Manager, Adam who excellently managed all the challenges that arose during the construction process. OGC also provided a more convinient all-in-one-service in getting some repair works done in the main house during the period; instead of having me to go through the hassles hiring different handyman for the repair jobs. I really had a great experience with OGC and would definitely recommend this company.

    Basement Renovation

We engaged with OGC for our basement renovation in 2024. The process was smooth from beginning to end. We were very happy with the end results, and the high quality finish. Our project and construction manager (Jim and Abdull) were excellent. Very professional, kept us on schedule and on budget, and provided timely updates. As with many construction projects, there were a few small hiccups, but these were dealt with immediately by the team at OGC. Overall we were very happy with the project.

    Kitchen addition and bathroom renovation

We bought a smaller older home last year with a tiny bathroom and an inadequate kitchen. OGC helped us create an expanded and much more liveable space by taking on two projects - expansion of the bathroom and an addition on the back for a new kitchen. We were not exactly sure how to design and build a more functional home. We just knew what did not work. We met with our designer Nick weekly until we arrived at a bathroom design that seemed optimal and affordable. It actually ended up being really fun and we learned a lot about what is possible in terms of improving living space. Renovating felt a little daunting at first, especially because we had to live in our space during renovations. But it was really useful to be on-site to engage with the tradespeople as well as the project manager Adam. As the bathroom was being constructed, we were able to discuss what was realistic for the kitchen. Adam was very thoughtful in suggesting alternatives to meet our requirements and providing feedback on the practicality of different possibilities, as we continued to meet with Nick to refine our design plan. We also really appreciated working with Chelsea, who provided appropriate design choices to simplify our selection process. Our kitchen project started about a month after the bathroom was done and proceeded along the timeline that Adam laid out, without delay. What really worked for us in this process is the relationships. As OGC noted, renovating your home is very personal and it meant a lot to us to have that recognized, especially at the points in the project where demolition and construction become more uncomfortable to live and work around. We are really pleased with the project results and would be happy to work with OGC again.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Dani, thank you so much for your kind words. From everyone at OGC, you were such a pleasure to work with. We hope you enjoy your new space as much as we helped make it come true.
