repllacement of knob and tube wiring

Our home still had the old wiring although some had been replaced when there was an electrical fire about ten years ago. We have been living in this house since October of last year. It was a worry and were very pleased to have it all replaced now. KNT had replaced the old wiring in another home that we had and we were very pleased. That is why we called them back when we purchased our present home. The work was done quickly and professionally and the guys are great to deal with. Thank you very much

    Knob and Tube Replacement

I found KNT (Bill Tang) on Homestars. He was the only electrician I called to replace some knob and tube and do some other updates in a newly purchased rental property. Bill did exactly what he said he would (actually he did a little more), exactly when he said he would do it, and at the exact price quoted. Bill provided excellent documentation as needed by my insurance company before and after the project. His crew was professional and very accomodating of the tenants' concerns. In fact, they came back late on a Friday night to solve a largely unrelated problem with a dryer. KNT is now my go to electrician.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for the nice compliments. Your tenants were very nice to us, but I guess you now that since they are so close to you. It was no problem to come by on Friday night, I was having dinner close by. I wish you all the best and good luck with your new property.

Replace knob & tube wiring & repair

KNT did a fast, respectful and tidy job and even threw in some extras, all at $1,000 less than nearest other contractor. They did not harm the panelling or wall coverings and finished faster than estimated. I highly recommended Bill Tang.

Thank you Diana. The guys say hello to Pheonix and hope your back is feeling better.

remove knob and tube wiring, install wiring for a new kitchen, breaker panel repair and remediation to accommodate new demands, the removal and replacement of faulty wiring throughout the house in general

If you hear the words, “Leave that to me.” from Bill Tang of KNT electric, go mix yourself a cocktail because your job is done. Bill stepped in after an incompetent electrician had left us with a mass of code violations, half wired rooms with no power or rooms with reversed polarity, sparking outlets, ceiling fixtures that were left hanging and/or smoking pot lights. Lights would come on with no reason and turn off by themselves. The breaker panel had been compromised, the house was not grounded and we had no idea if the knob and tube that was supposed to be removed by the first electrician, had in fact, been removed and or worse, what it had been replaced with. Further complicating matters was the fact that our basement was being turned into an apartment and the contractor for that job, had his own electrician for that particular project. It was mess and so were we by the time KNT stepped into the picture. From the friendly, efficient and quiet electricians employed by Bill to the dust cloths over the furniture and the cat’s food and water dishes someone thoughtfully moved to a room with less action that particular day, to the daily check-ins Bill made to answer our questions and provide progress reports, to the truly skillful fishing of wire through our lath and plaster walls and the insignificant damage to same when a new outlet or switch was required, it was a flawlessly executed project. Bill dropped by a few days before the city’s electrical inspection to ensure everything was as it should be that none of his work had been compromised by our renovation still in progress. He need not have bothered. We sailed through the inspection. Outstanding.

Thank you - Paul. We could not leave your house with so many electrical problems I am glad everything worked out.

Knob and Tube replacement and new fixtures

Bill and his team did a great job on re-wiring my old house. They were very detailed in their quote and itemized everything. They came prepared and did a walk-through in the house and marked where each new outlet or fixture would go. They even patched the holes made where the wire wash fished. The panel was even fully labelled upon completion. Very satisfied with the server and work. Highly recommended.

    Knob and Tube Removal

Bill and his crew are very professional and completed work on time with some difficulty. They installed 3 outlets in 2 bedrooms upstairs where I didn't want them, as well 2 outlets on my main floor were installed in wrong locations. Some face plates not installed as well. Try to be there when work is being completed.

    Answer from pro:

I sincerely apologize for not being able to resolve your issues resulting in your review on Homestrars almost 5 months after completion of the work at your home. August 22, 2012, I emailed you with the following attachments: Final Progress Report, ESA Certificates of Inspection, Invoice and other documents and the following comments: This job was quite challenging as there were a lot of existing devices installed in past renovations but were connected to K&T circuits. We have to run new circuits to these devices to eliminate all K&T circuits and the challenge was to find the junction boxes and figure out the routing serving these devices. We have been keeping you and Maria informed every time we encountered the surprises. Unfortunately, the problems have to be resolved and we managed to save rewiring all of these devices. We started the job on August 16, 2012, with instructions that you would patch the holes. All device locations were marked at the beginning of the job. I was told you are planning renovations on the G/F and the wall between the dining room and hallway would be removed. Receptacles on the ground floor were approved by your wife and installed with these considerations of limiting the holes and your future renovations. On Aug. 17. Tim the project leader informed your wife that the north exterior wall had solid foam insulation, and trenching the wall would be required to install devices on that wall for the 2/F. Trenching (cutting a 1-2” swath down the wall) thus destroying the wall paper On Aug. 18. We were instructed to limit the holes and preserve the wall paper in the two kid’s room on the 2/F. Therefore receptacles that would require destroying the wall paper were discussed with your wife and new locations were picked on the adjacent wall within 2ft of the original. I hope readers can see that we try to be very detailed and keep the client informed with progress reports. I am sorry that you were not happy the receptacles. KNT Electric will take your comments and learn from them so that we can provide better service to our clients.

Replace knob and tube, update wiring

We found Bill through this website, and after consulting with 3 other electricians, decided to go with Bill because of his thoroughness, and his professionalism. All of the estimates came back relatively close, but Bill's estimate was the most transparent (he breaks down what everything cost, so there are no hidden surprises at the end), and he pointed things out that none of the other electricians had noticed. The updating took about a week and a half, including all the patching and sanding of the walls. His team were very respectful and efficient, and you can barely tell where the holes were after all the plastering was done. We were pleasantly surprised, as we'd heard some horror stories from friends who'd had knob and tube work done in the past. At the end of the job, Bill even reimbursed us for 3 or 4 items that he didn't have to do (they were already up to code), reducing the fee by roughly $500. A less honest person wouldn't have done this, and with all the work being done, we likely wouldn't have noticed it. It's nice to work with someone with such integrity. In the end, we were very pleased with Bill's work, and would recommend him hands down to anyone. In the future when we need any electrical work, he'll be the one we call.

    electrical work

KNT Electric replaced all of the knob and tube wiring in my house in 2010. I have also had some smaller jobs for KNT several times this year. For both my large job and my smaller jobs the service has been outstanding. This company is reliable, the workmanship is excellent and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend KNT Electric. Thank you Bill and the entire KNT crew!

Knob and Tube in 1920s house

I needed to replace the knob and tube in my house for insurance reasons. Bill's quote was the lowest and he struck me as the most professional of all the contractors I spoke with. From the very beginning he was organized and detailed in his quote and, as the job progressed, he updated the quote as needed. In the end, the job came in very very close to the original estimate and the extra charges were all legitimate (things that were uncovered during the work) or things I chose to add to the job. Bill also worked within a very tight window for me and he was flexible and accommodating. He was also very pleasant to deal with, as were all of his workers. Aside from replacing the wiring, they patched all the holes for $1000. No other contractor offered this service--certainly not for such a reasonable price. And they also installed many news fixtures and fans. All in all, a thorough, transparent and professional job.

Thank you David for rating my service 10 out of 10 and writing such a detailed review. I really appreciate this. Your review is probably among the best I've received to date. Very concise, well written, and to the point. It will definitely help other potential customers understand the value KNT Electric seeks to deliver. Regarding insurers, we've built a strong relationship with Canada's leading insurance companies, and we're well aware that they have been tightening their underwriting guidelines for old wiring - namely "knob and tube" for quite some time now. It was a pleasure working with you. Happy holidays and thanks again for taking time to write us such a candid review. Bill 647-880-0881 (anytime).
