    Skylight leak repair

We have a skylight which was leaking and needed to be repaired, and after seeing the many positive recommendations for Fixer on the Roof at HomeStars, decided to have them do the work. Overall, it was a very positive experience. The process was incredibly quick: I called in the morning, and within a few hours someone had popped around to my house, evaluated the situation, and phoned me with a quote for the repair. I was worried that someone might say "oh, you need a new (and expensive) skylight", but that wasn't the case here. Fixer explained that the skylight was fine, but the initial installation hadn't been done quite right, and had basically deteriorated over the years. The fix would involve new flashing, shingles, ice and rain membranes, etc. So they get extra checks for honesty! Once we agreed to proceed, Fixer was going to come out the next day, but we had to postpone due to poor weather. They did, however, manage to come the day after that... and within a couple of hours had the entire thing fixed up and waterproofed. The fellow in charge of the team that came over (Shawn or Sean?) was professional, polite, and explained everything to me. He took before and after photos to show me what they had done. For this particular repair, Fixer gave me a 1 year warranty and told me that if I had any further issues with leaks from the skylight (which would be unlikely), that they would come around and "make it right". The cost was a little pricey, but for people like me who don't know how to waterproof skylights, deal with shingles or water membranes, it was worth it. You don't want to mess around with water penetration in your house, and I'm a firm believer in paying a little extra for quality work that will be done right and last a long time. I would highly recommend Fixer on the Roof. Thanks to Linda, Shawn (Sean?) and all involved for quickly fixing my leaky skylight !

    Roof repair

We thought we needed a total roof replaced but Fixer helped us get 2 more years out of our roof. Their honesty was refreshing! Then, when we came back for the full replacement, they quoted a very fair price and their people were professional and informative.

    Leaky Skylight

Found contractor through local classifieds and contacted them. Was able to schedule an appointment within a couple weeks. Contractor came out when promised and assessed leaky skylight. Took pictures of roof top to show why leaking. Nailed down the flanges and caulked nails. Whole job took less than 1/2 hour. Hopefully, skylight will not leak anymore.

    Roof Repair

Failed to diagnose the problem the first time around. $5,000 later we still had a leak. They suggested replacing whole roof as a solution. I eventually pointed to the source of the leak at which point they did the repair. No problem with the work done, in fact the guy who did the eventual repair was great, but the initial work was clearly a stab in the dark. In Response: In fairness - yes the small front roof was part of the $5000. Apologies for misstating. " Once we removed this deck there was an obvious leak that my crew was able to repair." I believe this was the issue all along. After the initial testing and assessment you were "99% sure it was not the flat roof". As I said already the actual work once completed was fine - even more than fine. My issue was with the initial assessment and your assertion that the "obvious" leak wasn't the original problem.

Hi Bruce, I am sorry you feel I did not properly resolve your roofing concerns and felt you needed to write this review rather than call me again to discuss any unresolved concerns. I am happy to hear your leaking has stopped and not returned since we did the work this past summer. We do a lot of work in the beaches and always answer our phones and are prepared to respond however we can to make sure our customers are happy. We have done over 1000 roofs and our main work is repairs. I would like to address the "failed to address the problem first time around". Arthur and his crew assessed your older home in the beaches in the early winter of 2011. At that time we stated this entire roof system should be replaced, given it was failing in multiple areas, however the projected cost to do a proper tie in replace 2 flat roofs, a mansard, and deck would run you over $15,000. We are always mindful of budget and this is why many customers choose us as we can start where we believe the damage is coming from and move on from there allowing you to budget for the “big nut”. Most roofing companies will not touch partial roofs or tie ins to other roof systems. We quoted you several options and before we attempted the work we tarped the area to make sure this was in fact where the leak source was. After a few good rain falls it was proved that the leaking stopped in the area we tarped, we proceeded to replace the failing front porch roof for $1400.00, and the mansard and skylight in the area we agreed the leak was. This was another $2600.00 You then called us in the spring to say your leak persisted, which is a bad call for us to receive. Water will always follow the path of least resistance, and water can be coming from several leak sources especially when you have several roof systems and protrusions that are failing, and will travel along the pathways to the same leak source. We sent Victor and his crew and they spent the afternoon doing water tests and could not find the leak source coming from the area we originally assessed or replaced. At that time it was decided to send my flat roof expert to remove the wooden deck to assess the lower flat. Once we removed this deck there was an obvious leak that my crew was able to repair. They installed new flat roof system to a 1/3 of the flat roof and tied this into walls and patio. Yes your total bill was over $5000 but we replaced your front porch roof, your back mansard roof, replaced a skylight, tied this mansard into siding and a patio door and lower flat roof. We also removed your back deck, installed new cap sheet to the flat roof by torching methods and replaced the deck. I am happy your leaking stopped and know you would call us again if it did not and we would come out again. I will caution you to budget for the upper flat and siding as well as the patio doors replaced. I know you have spent a lot of money on your interior and unless you have a water tight exterior you will have future problems. Most homeowners have no idea the skill level require to do siding, torching, skylight installation and shingle work. I am very proud of the crew I have hired and the crews are all highly knowledgeable and skilled. Team Fixer

    Roof Replacement

Our roof was not leaking, but it was in dire need of replacement. The project was small but tricky: several layers of shingles needed to be replaced on the pitched portion of our roof, and a flat portion needed to be redone. Bobby and crew know what they're doing. Throughout the whole process -- from estimate to cleanup -- Bobby was courteous, respectful, and accommodating. The job was completed quickly and cleanly. The only exceptions would be the few marks which somehow appeared in the drywall of our bedroom ceiling, as well as some scuffs in our bathtub caused by a fallen skylight. This being our first experience having a roof replaced, we're not sure whether such small marks are to be expected. Regardless, they were minor, and do not take away from the overall quality of the job done. Trish and Linda were always helpful -- and very patient -- when it came to our questions about the project. They were a delight to communicate with. The quality of their work is definitely worth the price. We're glad we chose Fixer.

    Needed to replace our roof

We had a leak in our roof and called Fixer on the Roof based on the reviews here on Homestars. Trish came out and inspected our roof. Pictures that accompanied our quote showed that our roof probably had more than one leak source and was due for a replacement. We decided to replace our roof (along with our semi-detached neighbour) and shopped around with other companies and decided that Fixer gave us the best price for the upgraded Certainteed shingles. The workers came on time early in the morning and spent the entire day to do both our roofs. Because they ended so late in the night (it was also very dark), there was some debris left over on our roof and property. Gave Trish a call and she sent her workers out the first available day and they cleaned up the rest of the debris. Their response to our emails were quick and VERY DETAILED. Would definitely recommend them to our friends and family. Hopefully our roof will last for years and years with no issues!

    Flat Roof Repair

I chose Fixer on the Roof from several companies based on their thorough professional estimate. When the guys showed up to do the work they uncovered a lot more layers and problems than had been evident.(My house is very old - 1880's.) Within a short time the owner, Trish, was onsite to discuss options. With her help we were able to make an informed decision as to how to proceed. By the end of the day the work was done and the site cleaned up. They even patched a section of the shingled roof at no extra charge! Friendly, courteous, on-time and on-budget. Thanks Fixer on the Roof.

Thank you so much for this kind review! I am always amazed to open up roofs and find all sorts of interesting "history". If houses in Toronto could speak they would tell interesting stories. Your may be; " we decided to build a roof on top of another roof on top of another to be the best in Toronto!" Thanks again for using Team Fixer!

    Roof Replacement

We hired Fixer on the Roof to replace our very steep roof last spring. We had felt at the time they did a good job and were very professional at a reasonable price. The amount we paid was the amount we were quoted. Unfortunately it became apparent our roof was leaking over the summer and had extensive water damage in our basement. We called them to come back to take a look and they told us that it was installed wrong the first time and needed to be completely re-done. We were definitely a bit miffed that this happened and then had to pay to replace a lot of drywall inside our house. They did however completely replace our roof (as well as a portion of of neighbours whom we are attached to) with no questions asked and at no charge. They were very professional to deal with throughout the whole process and were definitely willing to stand behind their work. We would probably use them again.

Hi Amanda! Thank you for your review! Like any growing company we sometimes make hiring "gaffs" but stand by our work and workmanship! Thank you for giving us the chance to make it right! Take care Team Fixer
