    Property manager, home repairs

We hired Bill to manage our property during our four-year absence from the country. He has been extremely responsive -- always reachable by email and phone and always available to address any issues. He is very capable and resourceful, from replacing our sink to addressing water pump issues to preparing our property for the winter season. We have been impressed by his honesty and sincerity. We would highly recommend Bill both for property management and home repairs.

    Basement stairs too tight

Made an appointment with Bill to see if what I required was feasible and cost. Bill was in the neighbourhood on another job and had sometime after leaving for the day to look at my issue. We could not get a fridge, freezer, loveseat and sofa in my basement home that we just moved in. After back-in-forth discussion Bill removed the bottom trim and side rail of the stairs which gave us more clearance. Bill did not charge for his advice, time and the little bit of labour. I will use Bill in the future because of his frankness and honesty.

Demolition of partly finished basement, install drywall, and paint basement floor

I hired Bill to gut a partly finished basement. What was nice is that Bill took care of hauling all the garbage away instead of my having to rent a dumpster. I liked the peace of mind that all old materials would be hauled away. Bill was pleasant to deal with. My basement is now in much better shape then it was before and I have Bill to thank for taking on the job. I am happy with the project. Bill also set me up with some very nice wire shelving witch will provide me with much needed storage.

    Answer from pro:

Thanks Michael if I can help again please let me know. If you have any issues please don't hesitate to call. It was a pleasure

    Install sink, minor fix-ups

I am writing this review to add some dimension to the few negative reports that Bill has received. I too was asked for a 50% deposit on all promised work, I demurred, because I thought it unreasonable, and paid $250 instead. I was invoiced for the whole job, and instructed to pay up front, which I did not do. Bill did some of the work but was unable to finish. Since then I have sent several e-mails, asking for a statement of account, and confirming that we have fixed the problem at our end. I have also asked for an accounting of some supplies he purchased and did not leave with us. ( He itemized $100 for supplies, which I queried, specifically noting that most of the plumbing had already been supplied, and the lumber was not yet needed.) My main problem is the non-response to all of my e-mails. I told him that I would hire someone else, since he had been non-responsive, but I had to pay $75 to that person for shut-off valves which I believed Bill had already purchased. I am not out of pocket much, and the work he did was fine. I would just like to support those people who HAVE had some problems, they are not wrong, my experience, though not as dire, was very similar. Bill contacted me and has asked that I edit my review. I have viewed his unflattering response to my review, which includes references to my home a family, and wish only to add that I stand by my original review. Bill's work is fine; his attitude to problems, questions and disagreements is not. As long as you have a perfect life and a perfect home, and do not care about how your money is spent, by all means hire this contractor. I would ask people to review his negative reviews, and his responses to criticism, however mild, and judge for yourself the commonalities. Ask yourself whether this is someone you want in your home.

    Answer from pro:

This was never about family issues or quality this is about taunting emails which didn't justify a response and being accused of theft of materials and not completing work. When asked why the time used consumed her initial payment and the reasons were explained this is the result. Any explanation below is not meant as derogatory or condescending but to merely explain our side of the story This customer was provided a quote for more work than what was performed due to changes in her plan and wanting to separate items into an additional visit. She paid 250 because the quote was actually for 500.00 No customer has ever in the history of this company been asked to pay for a job in full up front the job was to install a laundry tub, pick up special order doors from a store which were. Left behind from a previous contractor who disappeared The laundry tub was installed and leak tested but was not able to be supplied with water due to the inability to locate The main water supply valve for obvious reasons due to a heavily cluttered basement and her 20 something year old son occupying said basement complaining for not receiving 24hrs notice and cutting into his bath. Any supplies purchased were left in the garage right beside the closet doors as requested or used for the tasks that day. The claim of 75.00 for shut off valves from another contractor.. They are 9.99 each at the store. The invoiced total was for 2 hrs to pick up said closet doors which were hard to locate at the store because they had been there so long due to a previous contractor quoting and the balance was for the tub install. The lack of response was due to out of town family issues which most of the antagonizing emails received didn't warrant a reply but pictures of our daughter in the hospital after a car accident, the news article ect were provided to validate my lack of response. I truly do wish I was able to have a 100% customer satisfaction rating as this is how we succeed but it is after all a fact of life you will never keep 100% of the population happy. And for this I do apologize

    Basement repplastering, painting

He was not considerate about timing. -Washed his painting sheets in the our personal washer dryer. - Did not do paint job as per agreement. Agreement was to repaint the basement but he did not paint it.

    Answer from pro:

***This is not a customer of vail renovations***please review other reviews and decide weather this sounds like us vail renovations has prided themselves with a great homestars presence and values its client base. Vail renovations would never leave a site unfinished or use any customer products, tools and such without having the consent of the client. With all due respect this is not representation of our company

    kitchen counter and backsplash

Although Bill is a friendly enough guy, his work does not stand the test of time. After a horrible job the first time around (the tiles were all crooked and uneven) he came back and installed a second set (meaning I ate the cost of the first set of tiles and grout and had to buy a second set). These look a bit better (still uneven if you turn on the behind the sink light...I try not to)but several were cracked during installation and left that way and the grout has now (less than 6 months after the job was completed) cracked in several places. The end piece of the kitchen counter is peeling away from the counter itself. All in all, not very happy with the job.

    Answer from pro:

sorry things didn't work out This customer chose low end materials and was shown the defects in the factory sheets of tiny tiles and was unhappy with the finished look. I volunteered to go back and install new tile of her choosing as the first set she was unhappy with anyway. Peeling counter top edging is an iron on trim from the factory. If it was peeling it is easily re-glued. There was never a call to go look or any contact made by this client affording the opportunity to go remedy the situation

    Kitchen Renovations

Bill is not only professional - he is friendly, helpful and patient. He has done work for me three times and each time my confidence level rises in his skill and professionalism. In fact, I have recommended him to two female friends who were concerned about getting ripped off. I told them Bill will do the work well, on time and on budget - and your house will look great!! This is a local company who knows business is built on good work and word of mouth. Bill has helped improve my kitchen, bathroom and hallways in two different homes - I will hire him again!!!

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Sharleen for your review. All of our work is warrantied for 1 year. If you have any issues please don't hesitate to call. Look forward to working with you again Take care
