We purchased thin bricks from Stone Selex for our new fireplace. Their sales/customer service were patient and helpful in making our choice decision. They quoted an installation price as well. We checked other installers and selected a contractor (Ram) who advertised on Kijiji as the price was cheaper. Ram arrived on time, set up and proceeded to brick the fireplace. After a few hours we noticed the bricks were not level and advised him. He explained it was the irregularity of the bricks. He continued and the crookedness got worse. We complained again and he responded with noticeable anger saying his wife and child were both sick
and he had to go. He would return the next day and fix everything. He asked to be paid 1/3 of the cost as we had agreed.
When he did not show up next day we text him. He did not reply until the evening stating he was sick and would return next morning. We told him we did not want him to come. We had to clean up the mess he left.
We contacted Karen at Stone Select and asked if they could finish the
job. She called us and told us they would be happy to do the work at
approx cost first quoted and supply additional bricks as needed as they
had to tear down the already installed bricks and start over.
Andriy from Stone Selex came, covered furniture and floors, explained
what he would do and quickly got to work. He used a laser level and
created a level masterpiece that looked amazing. He grouted the bricks,
cleaned up the fireplace, checked everything, cleaned up and was
finished by around 5:00PM. He did it all in one day.
We are so grateful that Stone Selex saved our fireplace. Karen used extra
effort in scheduling and pricing to mitigate the mess left by Ram the
sloppy inexperienced original contractor we first selected. Thank you Stone Selex. Much appreciated.
