    Roof Shingle Replacement

    Our 12 year old house had faulty shingles and needed to be replaced. I did my research as I wanted to make sure the quote was competitive and the company was bondable and had a good reputation with their clients. I wasn’t disappointed choosing Sokol and National Star. He was quick to respond to my inquiry and provided an accurate and clearly detailed quote and was extremely helpful along the way. I really appreciated their professionalism throughout the whole process and Sokol’s team did an outstanding job replacing the shingles. Cleanup was extremely thorough as we didn’t want to have any loose nails with kids around. We are very satisfied with National Star and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

    Thank you, Derek, for taking time to write a few words on your experience with us. You talk about the time you were looking for a roofer, doing your research till the point that you chose us. When you look at a company with a 10/10 rating, over 200 happy clients that have spent at least half an hour writing a comment, it looks too good to be true. It is impossible for a construction company, in booming Calgary to be so perfect? It is very hard, it takes a long time but it is not impossible. First of all one has to have the right mentality: take pride in the work, sacrifice money and time for customer satisfaction. It is hard and it takes a long time to find the right people to work with. If you see most companies here are either 1-2 men crews or larger companies with 15 or over employees and subcontractors with a crazy turnaround rate. The key is a medium sized group that are on the same page and see themselves there in the long-run. This way when you call within the 15 years of your warranty or after, your concern will be addressed. We will be around for a while, so call us anytime you have any concerns.

    Roof Replacement

    We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sokol and his crew from National Star Roofing Specialists for their professionalism and a job well done on our roof. We were very pleased with the outcome (the new roof looks great!!). They were able to complete the job in one day and thoroughly cleaned up on completion. I will definitely recommend this company to all of our family and friends for any roofing repair/replacement needs.

As you told me, even if you didn't get money from them, you would have still chosen us. Why is our quote higher than the average at time? This is in complex roofs, with a steep pitch and many shapes and other difficulties. In these cases, you cannot price by measurements, but you have to take into account the extra time and energy we have to spend to make it water-proof. Many crews fly thru potential leak areas because of a deadline or the money is not enough. Our main goal is not to have any problems, no returning to a job-site, if we can prevent it. Once you have completed a job, it is actually harder to find and fix a leak. Why not sit back and think and do smth properly the first time? You would think it's logical and everyone should work like that. If everyone did though, there would be no more work. Lol.

    Roof Replacement

    After doing my research, and receiving several quotes, I decided on National Star to replace my shake roof with new shingles. Their price was competitive and their estimate was fully broken down, showing all quantities, and the cost for any extras. The installation process was very professional and well executed. Communication was clear and timely. Materials were delivered as promised. The crew showed up on time, on the scheduled day, and started working immediately. No radios, no constant shouting back-and-forth, no excessive noise. The crew was very friendly, polite, and courteous. Workmanship was top-notch with excellent attention to detail and no compromises. They fixed all deficiencies with the existing flashing, repaired the failing seal around the skylight, and helped source and replace a missing fascia cap, all at no extra charge. Cleanup was quick and thorough – including the rain gutters. The job was completed in a single day, just as promised. Highly recommended.

    New Asphalt Shingles

    When our shingles started to look rough, we used Homestars to select a couple of contractors for quotes on shingles. Of the two top-ranking roofers on the site, Sokol was the most professional, most punctual in setting up an appointment for a quote, and cost slightly less. He also found (and documented) wind and hail damage and encouraged us to apply to an insurance adjuster to recover at least a portion of costs. We did receive one quote (from a third contractor) that was lower than Sokol's (though only by about 10%), but the professionalism, work that was to be done, and materials quoted did not impress us. We are very pleased with the work done (Sokol personally took me up on the roof to review every facet of what was done) -- it was done professionally and with attention to detail. They also found one location where the original builder simply left out plywood -- upon ripping off the shingles, they found a gap in the roof where no plywood was put in place. They were great about showing us photos of this and fixing the problem. They completed the work in a single day (from about 9:00 to about 7:00), and cleaned up after themselves very thoroughly. The work crew was friendly and obviously experienced. I should also mention that they had the materials craned to the roof -- always the sign of an experienced roofer. (We've seen some work crews laboriously lifting bundles up the ladder.) Overall, we feel that we received good quality work, good quality materials, and a very good experience. We would without hesitation recommend National Star to anyone else looking for roofing services.

    Excellent Roof Replacement

    Just got my roof replace today! National Star did an excellent work on it and the clean-up after was superb! I found out about National star through a family friend, and after reading pages after pages of positive reviews I contacted Sokol. On the day of the quote he arrived with the most professional equipments I had seen so far in all the companies that had came. Sokol was very thorough with his explanation on the materials and how the new roof was going to be constructed. He was very professional in the sense that he did not give us a quote until after he made sure that we understood what we are getting. Sokol answered all of our questions with great patience, and was very polite and understanding in my need to translate for my parents. Although there was a three day delay for the installation due to the weather, the extra waiting period was well worth it. They came today at 9:00am and finished within the day at 7:00pm. They worked fast and studiously. The installers were all very nice and friendly during the installation. Our family is very satisfied with our new roof, and would recommend National Star to anyone who needs a new roof done.

    New roof on our house

    National Star Roofing did a great job of our roof, they went beyond our expectations. The staff were very professional and knowledgeable, they kept us informed as they completed the work. They were on schedule and on budget. I would recommend this company to anyone needing to do a roof replacement.

    shingles

    Sokol was excellent from beginning to end. He pointed out I had hail damage and showed me pictures. The shingles I had installed ended up costing them more to bring in but they did not charge me extra for it. National star is awesome. They want to build relationships with people. You are not just another job as it is all family members and they all show up for one job at a time only, so the entire company is focused on your house only! They finished my house in one day and they did it with care as though it was their own home. They cleaned up as they worked ad everyone was polite and professional. They were always careful to communicate with each other and stop work when I left my front door. They do work safely. The craftsmanship was great. Sokol showed explained to me the work that was done. I feel more secure about my roof especially with their 15 year workmanship warranty. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. They do it right because they realize there are hundreds of roofing companies out there. They treated me like a friend and I am glad I chose right. They have a great rapport and reputation. Keep it up guys as there aren't a lot of honest hard workers with great workmanship out there.

    new roof

    We cannot express how grateful we are for the incredible work Sokol and his crew did on our roof. From the time we first contacted Sokol to the completion of the work, we were always treated with complete friendly professionalism. Sokol and his crew did an excellent job on our roof and kept us updated on the work being done even while we were in hospital taking care of our daughter, so that we were not worrying about the roof. National star roofing is a family business and Sokol and his crew made us feel like we were family. We would and have been recommending national star roofing to almost every one. Thank you Sokol and family.

    Roof replacement

    Thank you to Aleks, Sokol, and the entire crew for replacing our roof shakes with new shingles on our house in a single day. Here’s our story… We chose National Star to give us a quote originally because of the sheer number of positive reviews on Homestars. Things weren’t looking so good as it took a few days for Sokol to get back to us to arrange a meeting for a quote. Fortunately that was the only bump in the whole process. Sokol came, went on the roof, (some of the other companies didn’t) and he was able to give us a quote at the end of the visit. The quote turned out to be competitive. Other companies made us wait for up to 5 days before we received their quotes. The initial visit was professional and he was able to answer our questions knowledgeably and easily. Before the shingles were delivered, Alex showed up in person to let us know that the work would be done the following day. This was a nice touch. During the workday, the crew spent about 12 hours doing the work. They found damage to our chimneys a couple of hours in, and took me up on the roof to show me the damage and suggest a permanent replacement. They were able to replace the wood siding for just the cost of wood (i.e. no labour). We appreciated that they did not just ignore this issue and try to work around it or cover it up. Once the work was complete, Sokol invited me up to take a close look at the work. He toured me all over the roof showing a number of changes they made, and explained the difference between what was there and what was there now. Alex also spent about 10 minutes with me walking the perimeter of the house afterwards to ensure we were happy with the cleanup. They did a great job with this as well. They have also told us to contact them anytime with any follow-up concerns. It just seems like they pay attention to the small details as well as the big picture. Apart from the actual work, which was well done, they also "look" like a classy bunch. Each of their work trucks were clean and professional (in contrast to those rust buckets you see parked in front of houses replacing roofs with stuff hanging out all over the place). Also absent was the blaring CJAY92 generic rock accompaniment that you hear sometimes with other roofers while they are doing their work. These may not seem like important points, but we live in a cul-de-sac with many houses nearby, and their demeanor during the entire job was excellent. The neighbors gave us positive feedback about their experience watching the roof replacement. Perhaps these sorts of things are not something you can plan for, but we added this to our review for those people that feel this extra, added value is worth some consideration. Overall, we are very pleased with National Star and would recommend them to our family and friends.

    New Roof - House & Detached Garage

    We chose National Star Roofing to re-roof our house and detached garage based on the reviews from HomeStars. Sokol and crew exceeded our expectations and definitely went "above and beyond" for us. We would highly recommend them to anyone. Sokol and crew showed up promptly at 9am on the day they said they would. They were not even an hour into the job, when they let us know that the previous roof had been nailed directly to the plywood with no underlay in between. The majority of the plywood on the roof was rotten with black mold. They ended up having to replace 17 sheets of plywood on our roof before they could even begin laying the underlayment, let alone the new shingles. Yet somehow these hardworking gentlemen were able to have our roof complete by 9pm the same day. Everybody in our neighbourhood has been stopping by the last few days to comment on our roof and to get the name of our contractor. As far as going "above and beyond" for us, they cleaned our gutters, painted our vent stacks to match the colour of the shingles, added flashing where there wasn't any before. As well, the clean up afterwards, is nothing short of amazing. We're pretty sure the area around our house was cleaner after they left than before they came. Thank you Sokol & Crew! We will highly recommend you to all our family and friends.
