Hickory Dickory Decks

My wife and I hired Steve and his crew at HDD RH to construct a new, small deck in our backyard for this summer and they were an absolute pleasure to deal with. Steve's easy-going but professional attitude, plus him being open and forthcoming in all his communications put us at ease. This despite some nervousness on our part as this was the first time we've hired a contractor to do any work for our home.

The crew at HDD RH that completed the construction were also courteous, friendly and easy to talk to. They showed up early every morning to start work promptly at 8 am and cleaned up any mess they made at the end of each day. They worked fast and completed the project on time but did not compromise on their workmanship, which was excellent. The work ethic and professionalism they demonstrated impressed us immensely. It was also clear to us, in speaking with them and watching them work, that they took pride in the deck they were building and wanted to do the best job possible.

We would also like to point out that even though our project was a relatively small and quick one (the build took ~3 days in its entirety), at no point did we feel like we were being rushed, neglected or treated as being less important clients by Steve or any member of his crew.

In summary, we had a great experience working with Steve and his crew at HDD RH and are very pleased with the product they delivered. Thank you once again for building our beautiful deck for us!

HDD replaced our old deck with a beautiful new deck two years ago. Living in a heavily treed area it was time to have the deck cleaned. As usual HDD did an outstanding cleaning job. The deck looks like it was just installed again. The boys were very hard working as usual. I would highly recommend their power washing service.

They provided us with several design options and worked with our ideas and budget to build our dream deck. They showed up exactly when they said they would each day, and met all timelines. I had a very old deck that needed to be completely replaced last fall, and Geoff was a pleasure to deal with from start to finish. I have a narrow long backyard with a tricky angle and Geoff helped design the new deck to maximize the space and I couldn't be more thankful. During the build, Kosal was great to deal with. He made sure the area was tidy at the end of each day which I appreciated, and the final product looks fantastic. These guys are top notch. Looking forward to enjoying the deck for years to come.

This past May we hired a company called Hickory Dickory Decks to build our deck. The cost was nearly $10 000 for a relatively small deck, but it was a cost we were willing to pay knowing that this was a large company with many franchises and therefore we would be guaranteed that we would receive a quality product and quality service. Well, this did not turn out to be the case. Everything that we were trying to avoid with some random contractor is what we received. It took nearly 2 months for our deck to be completed from start to finish. In this two month period dozens of phone calls had to be made to head office to even get the job done. In the end, when the job was finally 'complete' the quality is far from what we paid for: large gaps between some boards, the trim boards not even being close to meeting up in the corners, screw holes that have no screws, cracks in a couple boards, etc. Due to the conflict with the contractor over the delays and work, we were met with verbal abuse and threats. When we complained about contract items not being met, extra charges for items, and double-charges for dump fees; we were told "well take me to small claims court".

The company owner would not step in to resolve the issues; claimed that "he's not responsible for the behaviour of franchise owners"

Ellen and Scott are amazing to work with and we have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone considering building a deck. You will be part of each step of the process and consulted if changes need to be made. You will be part of the design process right from the start. Computer generated designs based on your ideas are developed for you with no charge if you decide to not go ahead with the project. Prices for your deck design in wood, cedar or composite are provided before you decide. There is no sales pressure from this couple. The workmanship on our composite deck and pavilion is excellent. Scott is a true master with composite wood. Ellen has excellent design sense and is very helpful when making design choices. Each day the work site was cleaned so that we never had a messy back yard to deal with during construction. The couple works only on your project until it is completed. We are thrilled with the result and look forward to enjoying it for the next 25 years which is what the composite warranty guarantees.

We love our new deck! The craftsmanship is wonderful and we look forward to enjoying it for years to come. If anyone is looking to have a new deck built I would highly recommend Hickory Dickory Decks in Waterdown. Tom Jacques was great to work with when exploring all our options with no pressure. Kevin did an amazing job with my deck. He and Dave build decks as if they were building it for themselves. They are perfectionists as proven by the final product. I was extremely pleased with the ideas Kevin suggested to enhance the final appeal of the deck.
