Canopy over exterior entrance to basement

After the big downpours in the summer of 2012, It was clear that I needed to cover the door to my basement with a canopy. At first, I was going to go with an aluminum canopy to match the ones over my back windows. However, when Rusco looked at my house, they suggested a clear canopy because it would have to cover two windows in a shady side of the house.

The clear canopy is absolutely lovely and goes well with my Edwardian clapboard house. The light still shines through my dining room window and the south window in my kitchen. The canopy's clear material is a polycarbonite and did very well in the fairly heavy rain the day after it was installed.

Rusco's front office is very nice to deal with -- I am hard to get during business hours and this was not a problem. My canopy was installed very well with an excellent clean up.

Demolition old deck, build new deck, railings, fascia, soffitt, eavestrough, windows (5), door

The project manager visited our home and I told him what I wanted. He was very clear about what we needed and where our money would be better spent - a very no-nonsense approach. His tradesmen showed up on time every day, did the work and cleaned up before they left. They always put in a full day's work and they never wasted time. Very skilled people and totally professional. It was a pleasure dealing with the foreman, the trades people and their head office. If only other reno projects would go so smoothly! Leaky eavestrough at the seal joint (after a rainstorm) was fixed immediately. Great value and completely satsifying experience. Hire these people - they are very good.

4 season sunroom

We hired Rusco to replace a four season sunroom at the back of our house. We found Israel to be very courteous, knowledgeable; he didn't pressure us into buying or replacing stuff that didn't need to.

During the "design phase" we went numerous times to Rusco showroom, every single time Israel made sure we understand what is being built and how. Pictures, drawings, literature etc, everything we asked for we were provided with.

Demolition of the old sunroom and construction took about 10 days, on and off weather permitting.
The staff was polite and professional and at the end they cleaned up completely.

The project didn't go unchallenged, however all the issues have been addressed quickly.

Already recommended Rusco to friends and I would not hesitate to use Rusco again.

Front Entrance Awning

My husband and I recently moved into an older home which had a very old aluminium awning over the front doors., We contacted Rusco Distributors, and they were very prompt in responding. A very nice gentleman called, explained everything, and we made a choice right there and then. We chose a lovely green awning to match the roof, and it has certainly given the house a real boost. The awning looks smart and solid, the colour is great and we were especially pleased with the installers who had it up in no time. Rusco's estimate for delivery was also right on time. We are very happy with the choice we have made, and when we are able, will be contacting this company again. We are very happy to recommend their products.

Patio Cover 8 x 14

There was a delay in starting the project! Once the materials arrived at my house, the job moved quickly. First was the removal of the old cover. All was disposed of. Steve and his worker were very efficient. They did make the project very sturdy. Each time they left the site, they had tidied up, even sweeping! There was electrical wires that had to be secured and were, with great care. The patio cover with skylights is a very clean look and bright. The patio has an updated look. I am pleased with the look and will thoroughly enjoy sitting under it to enjoy the coming summer.

Two Sided Sunroom added to the front of our cottage

Two Sided Sunroom Addition

We hired Rusco to install a small 10x10 sunroom on the front of our cottage in Oct 2009.
To start with the product was delayed in arriving. We thought that’s fine it wasn’t their fault.

Then they did not come to install the sunroom when we could be there. Israel said he would send his best installers & there would not be a problem.

We sent specific instructions on where we wanted our eaves trough placed. They did not read our instructions on where to place the eaves trough & drain. They came back in the Spring 2010 & tried to correct the problem but still got it wrong. We finished the job ourselves.

The first summer was fairly dry & there were no leaks. In the early spring of 2011 we had water leaking into the sunroom. We called Israel to tell him about the leak. Every time there was a hard rain we would have water coming in from where the sunroom was attached to the cottage. Finally in June Israel sent Gerry to find the problem & repair it. Gerry said he could not see any problems so he just went around & caulked all the edges where it was fastened to our building. The next rain it still leaked. We called Israel again.

This time Israel sent an independent serviceman (we will call him Bob) to access the problem & find the leak. Bob stated two areas where the problem could be coming from. One was our roof & the likely area was where they fastened the sunroom to our roof.

Israel chose to believe it was our roof & told us to fix it ourselves. He then sent us a bill for the caulking Gerry did. Which was the exact same amount of the bill that Bob sent him. We were very disappointed in Israel’s lack of responsibility.

We decided to do a water test & found the source of the leak within 10 minutes. This is something Gerry Hough should have done when he came all the way to Bobcaygeon to repair the leak. Instead he just filled every area that was attached to our building with caulking & created an unprofessional appearance. We could have done that ourselves.

We hired Bob to do the repair work. As it turned out, he was mistaken about our roof. In fact there was ice & watershield, plus protection up under the siding. He saw all this when he removed the mess from the installers. Bob also revealed the fact that they fastened the sunroom roof on top of our siding when they should have cut the siding 3” above the sunroom roof, installed a “J” molding, then flashing behind the siding & over the sunroom roof at least 4” This is why we wanted to be there when they installed it.

We offered to remove our siding before installation & Israel said not to bother that his guy’s would do it. Well they didn’t.

Bob also found out that they did not attach the sunroom roof to our cottage roof according to the Building Code. They just laid it on top of our roof & caulked the join. They should have fastened it to a 2x6 header, installed Flashing & Ice & Watershield where they attached the sunroom roof to our roof. This should have been a no brainer! This is the source of the problem where the water was coming in.

We called to let Israel know the source of the leak was caused by the fact his men did not install the sunroom to our roof according to building code. He still does not think it’s there fault. We asked him to cover the $900.00 cost for the repair (he did not know it was Bob) his response was very unprofessional. He told us it was not his problem. Quote “ Please also note that if your reputable party touched the room we installed the slightest without our permission, your warranty is null and void.” My response is WHAT WARRANTY!!!! Obviously it doesn’t cover leaks.

When we told him that Bob did the repair he said we should have called him.
Why would we call him? He told us it was not his problem & to fix it ourselves.
Now that we know it was Israel’s problem we would just like to be paid the $900.00
it cost us for the repair.

All the above can be verified by letters we have sent Rusco & professionals who have seen the workmanship of the installers.

sunroom

WE CALLED RUSCO TODAY TO INITIATE PROGRESS ON A LINGERING DESIGN ISSUE AND A MISSING SCREEN. IT SOUNDS THAT WE MADE PROGRESS. THE SUNROOM WE ORDERED WAS INSTALLED LAST FALL. IT IS A GOOD PRODUCT. IT WITHSTOOD THE WINTER AND RAIN WELL. AFTER INSTALLATION WE HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE DESIGN. ON PAPER WE COULD NOT DETECT THAT THE NEW SUNROOM ROOF WAS MUCH LOWER THAN THE ROOF WE PREVIOUSLY HAD ON THE PORCH. AFTER IT WAS INSTALLED AND PAID FOR IN FULL, WE REALIZED THAT TO BE 100% HAPPY WITH THE SUNROOM, THE ROOF HAD TO BE RAISED TO THE PREVIOUS HEIGHT. IT WOULD INVOLVE AN ADDITIONAL COST. WE AGREED ON THE COST.WE HAVE BEEN WAITING. TODAY MR. REINER PROMISED THAT DURING JULY IT WILL FINALLY HAPPEN. WE NOW CAN'T WAIT TO FOLLOW UP WITH A REVIEW THAT THE SCREEN IS DELIVERED (2 DAYS) AND THE ROOF IS RAISED (JULY). TO BE CONTINUED WE HOPE WITH HAPPY NEWS A GOOD PICTURE, AND A MUCH HIGHER RATING. NEXT REPORT ON THURSDAY JUNE 28,2012. - a-m-a-z-i-n-g this afternoon June 26 - the screen arrived - a w s o m e - 1 day ahead of schedule - kudos!! maybe we'll be surprised with the roof soon enough . thanks for listening. more good to come :)

What could this company do to improve their services?
WHEN A DESIGN IS MADE - BUYERS ARE NOT ALWAYS EXPERIENCED IN READING IT - BEYOND JUST PLAIN NUMBERS NEXT TO WALLS/PANELS/DOORS-FOR MEASUREMENTS. DESIGNER MUST DRAW CUSTOMER'S ATTENTION PHYSICALLY TO ANY ANGLE, HEIGHT, PRESENT WALLS- NOT JUST LOOKING PASSIVELY IN THE SHOWROOM, BUT ALSO DIRECT THE CUSTOMER TO FIGURE OUT HOW HIGH THE ROOF SHOULD BE. ANYTHING TO HELP CUSTOMER TO VISUALIZE AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE HOW THE STRUCTURE WILL ACTUALLY LOOK.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
GO INTO SUNROOMS - AND LOOK AND TOUCH HIGH AND LOW -IN ALL DIRECTIONS. THEN COME TO YOUR PROPOSED AREA AND YOU, NOT ONLY THE INSTALLER, USE THE ACTUAL MEASURING TAPE.

Insulated Sunroom

We hired Ruso to build an insulated vinyl sunroom on the back of our semi-detached home (the sunroom components themselves were manufactured by Better Living Sunrooms).

We were pleased with many aspects of Rusco's work. They were very transparent and up front in the initial meetings about our options, pricing, concerns and considerations, etc. This is more than I can say for other competitors such as Four Seasons Sunrooms.

They were very helpful and consultative througout the design process, and did not pressure me or try to "upsell" me to something I didn't need. They also offered to meet me at the manufacturer's site to see the product I was going to purchase. Very helpful.

Rusco took the designs I had created and turned them into proper plans which were used to secure the required building permits. Rusco took care of the entire building permit process themselves on my behalf for a reasonable fee added to the project cost.

Throughout the construction process their staff were courteous and professional. When the odd mistake was made or issues arose (which is bound to happen with any project) they were generally very willing to discuss the issue and ensure a satisfactory resolution was reached. There were some things that I had to get on them about in order to bring about a resolution, but they always did the right thing, which I really appreciated.

They were also generally accommodating in making small changes or adjustments as necessary throughout the project.

The project did, however, take much longer than originally scheduled. I'm not suggesting by any means that that was all because of Rusco as there were other factors involved, but I would suggest that customers sit down and review the estimated timelines before entering into the project and understand fully the risks of the project extending longer than anticipated. Even though the project did take a while, Rusco was committed to completing it properly and I always trusted they would finish it properly. They are not a "fly by night" company.

Customers should also ensure they discuss the cost of extras and adjustments/fixes that may arise during the project so they aren't surprised by these items when they arise.

We were very pleased with the end product and enjoyed working with Rusco. The product was great, the price was competitive, the service and professionalism of their staff was great, and they have a great reputation.

Thanks!
M

Installing new windows

I interviewed several window & door companies to replace all our basement windows. The Rusco representative gave me the best advice about types of windows to install for safety (can we get out if there's a fire?) and security (keeping strangers out). I felt confident after the consult and estimate. In the end the windows were installed while my hubby was on duty. I came home to the job completed, new windows looking great, old windows and debris taken away (by Rusco, not my hubby!). It happened when they promised and one year later, we're really delighted with the job.
