Detached home gut and addition

Reiner guided our home renovation from survey and plans through final inspections. He was a steady hand on the project, and brought invaluable experience at every visit. We made many changes along the way, including replacing suppliers and re-tendering. Reiner provided good advice and helped us favourably resolve all conflicts and problems. He consistently found quality trades and suppliers at better rates than we could find on our own.

One-story addition

Hiring The Reno Coach, Reiner Hoyer, was the best decision we made when deciding to add a one story addition to the front of our house. Reiner's mission statement is to 'keep the wheels turning' on your project, no matter what bumps you hit along the way. In our case some of the bumps included successfully representing us before the Committee of Adjustment after the City rejected our permit application, saving us from signing a low-ball contract containing sneaky clauses that likely would have vastly increased the final price, finding quality replacement contractors when necessary, keeping an eye on the job to stop most mistakes from happening and to make sure that mistakes that couldn't be stopped got fixed, and in general smoothing the troubled waters stirred up when you try to build something of your own in this crazy city with its super-heated construction market and incomprehensible regulations. Hiring Reiner was a great investment for us. We saved money. We avoided grief.

Small claims court

I hired the Reno Coach when my home Reno went off the rails and not only did he recommend a trustworthy company to take over the job, he also served as my expert witness in small claims court. He helped me get my house back and helped me recoup some of the money owed to me by the unscrupulous home improvement company, all for the single consultation fee. I recommend the Reno Coach without qualification and wish I had engaged him right at the beginning of the renovation process instead of going through hell for 5 1/2 months and taken advantage of by a so-called "award winning" family run home improvement company.

Main Floor/Kitchen Reno

We came accross Reiner after some research online and had him over to talk about our project. His laid back approach and the ability to see what we can't gives us peace of mind of hiring him. He was able to help us and guide us through the process, always available to answer any questions, give suggestions and make this process at ease. Our project was even ready before the due date. He has years of experience and know what is the best for the client. I can't recommend him enough !!

Basement Renovation

This is the third time I’ve had the pleasure of working with Reiner (The Reno Coach). He helped me renovate a basement apartment that was in very poor condition. The apartment needed to be gutted to the studs and waterproofed. Once again, Reiner was amazing throughout the entire process. His insight, knowledge, patience, and informed advice made what would have otherwise been a very difficult project manageable, easy, and cost effective. Reiner’s ability to diagnose the heart of a problem (where others often cannot) and terrific contacts ultimately saved me time and money. The project was completed on schedule and on budget, and the quality of the work was great. I have no hesitation in recommending him, and will definitely work with him again in the future.

Basement Renovation

We had been living with a dreadful, dank, moldy basement for some years. Neither myself nor my husband felt that we had the knowledge or competence to ask the right questions never mind make the choices necessary to go ahead with a renovation project.
Quite by chance I stumbled on Reiner's name and biography and a few clicks of the mouse later, had set up an appointment.
Reiner has been a steady presence throughout the work; from helping us to interview contractors, obtaining drawings and permits to solving big and small issues that came up along the way.
Our initial investment has paid off many times both financially and in terms of stress reduction.
We would not have been able to do it at all without Reiner's help.
I'd also like to mention and say a special 'thank you' to May, Reiner's assistant. She is the most organised and competent P.A. you are likely to meet.
Very many thanks to Reiner and his staff. We wouldn't dream of tackling any project in the future without your help.

Full house gut

Hiring Reiner was the first and best decision when we undertook gutting our entire house. We knew nothing about renovations or construction. Reiner introduced us to a few different contractors and once we had selected a contractor Reiner was there to go over the contract carefully. We worked the payment schedule to encourage the contractor to keep things moving. Once the job was moving Reiner made regular site visits. Hiring Reiner gave me two big things. 1) Security that the job was being done right and 2) A feeling that I was not being taken advantage of by the contractor. I have recommended Reiner to many friends and acquaintances.

Gut reno 3-storey semi: duplex to single-family

Throughout our project, Reiner's advice was invaluable to us. From obtaining permits, to sourcing a great designer and contractor, to advising on how to build a contract that protected us, to helping keep the project on schedule, Reiner guided us every step of the way. He has immense industry knowledge that helped us when we bumped into unexpected hiccups and was proactive with finding efficiencies and problem-solving.

We had no prior renovation experience, and we can't imagine having to navigate the process without him. We will likely be undertaking a basement dig-down within a few years (gotta love old Toronto character homes!), and we would definitely use his services again. Would absolutely recommend him to anyone. Thanks so much Reiner!

Nearing completion of a difficult and complicated renovation from a single to a multi unit dwelling, we are pleased to highly recommend Reiner as a very involved coach assisting with permits, contractor referrals and supervision. We are planning to use his services again in the future.

Reno guidance on new kitchen and basement reno

We are so happy that we chose to work with Reiner!

I met with Reiner before the Winter Holidays for a one hour free consultation, and knew he was going to get our project off and running. We had been interviewing with architects and contractors for the better part of 6 months, and were stuck. We had ideas and quotes, but needed to feel we had someone on our side.

Some of the reasons we highly recommend working with Reiner:
- he has great ideas, knows the permit system, building techniques, and many people in the industry
- everyone he brought in and we decided to hire were honest, hard working people
- he was a second set of eyes to see possibilities in our space, and gave alternative ideas to any opportunities/challenges that arose throughout construction
- although we were very happy with the people we chose to hire, he advocated for us when needed
- he checked in with us to see that we had any questions, and checked in regularly on our house (as we were not living on site)
- when we needed to talk to him in an "emergency", he was quick to respond (On a Saturday visit, and a problem discovered, he was at the house looking at it, and solving the problem with 2 hours)
- he is eco-minded, drives a smart car, and his own house is called a "passive house" - ask him about this!

Reiner made our renovation happen. There were times over the course of our project, that I don't know what we would have done without him. He kept everything going - if we had been alone - we would have been lost.

Thank you Reiner for working with us from beginning to end. We are so happy with the "new" home that has been created for our family.
