Very unsatisfied and unhappy

I feel very ripped off. He took my downpayment, damaged my kitchen and we never heard from him after we requested a response for a solution (until the update below). Glue on my stove, glue on my sink. He tried to patch together a countertop out of FIVE slabs of concrete, all uneven, seams everywhere. He quoted us on his "seamless concrete poured onsite"(yourconcrete.ca), based on the size of the countertop and pictures I sent. When he visited in person and reassured he could do a good job, we agreed to a concession of two slabs installed with one seam (and didn't ask for a price adjustment to reflect the different approach). He glued together FIVE slabs of concrete, tried to make it sound like he was doing us a favour by making a side panel, but the thing wouldn't have even held together without it. Still not sure it will hold together, the biggest slab has a crack right through it. Seamless went to five seams without verifying with us, and we absolutely would not have agreed. When we tried to contact for a solution he did not respond. What was delivered was not what was advertised or agreed to. UPDATE: very quickly after writing this review, he emailed a veiled threat stating "So if you do online bashing, we have dealt with that before". So he does read emails, just choses to respond when he sees something public. I do not appreciate the intimidation and I would not recommend

Great job!

I contracted Steve to do my driveway. The house I bought had a single paved driveway, and I needed it widened to a double concrete driveway. I met Steve and he’s a really nice guy and we agreed on a plan. I saw a couple of bad reviews about Smoothcrete, so at first I was a little bit concerned. But Steve did an amazing job and I don’t understand why somebody would leave a bad review. He was professional, punctual and the job turned out absolutely fantastic. Steve is especially adept at colouring and stencilling concrete and I really couldn’t have asked for a better result. He cleaned up after himself and left the front yard looking great. I have no hesitation in wholeheartedly recommending Smoothcrete to anybody.

Wouldn't fix it unless I paid more

He came to finish my floors. Seemed positive and friendly when quoting our job.
Ultimately not only did he fail to do a patch that was supposed to be done before staining, he applied stain over top of debris and drywall mud. In many places the finish scratches off with a thumb-nail.
The damage done far exceeds the price we paid as the only effective way to solve this is to grind off his finish to create a clean surface from which to start over again.
See Ontario Small claims court case SC-15-00000387-0000 in London Ontario.
We were able to get a settlement for $3000 which isn't close to our damages but we were not optimistic on collecting a larger amount.
Even then, it took him about 16 months to pay, which is why I am posting this so long after the event. Our settlement included a huge penalty and the right to also pursue the money from the proprietor personally had he not paid within the 16 months.

Decorative concrete floor installed in finished basement

Steve was a great salesman, but a poor tradesman. I was naive. Had I done my homework, I would have found other bad reviews on Better Business Bureau and Ripoff.com. I hired Smoothcrete to take out our water damaged parkay floor in the basement and install decorative concrete instead. Steve (owner) convinced us of a concrete type and design that would be easy to install. The job took about 3 days (he said it would take 2 at most) and he had to come back a 4th day to fix the following problems:
-Border lines weren't straight. He couldn't be bothered to use a ruler.
-Border colour wasn't consistent throughout the floor.
-Air/water bubbles everywhere. Concrete was not smooth/glossy.
-Main field colour wasn't even close to the brown he promised.
-Large yellow splotches everywhere.
-Sloppy workmanship - couldn't be bothered to put back the closet or the baseboard heater.

His customer service was terrible. He said this was my problem and at first refused to fix the huge issues he had left us with.
