    Home boiler repair and service

    Last year, having previously used a "friend of a friend" for boiler repairs, to costly and ineffective result, I was very pleased when I called Belyea to repair the damage. They came exactly on time, did a thorough job of diagnosing and repairing the damage at lower cost than I had anticipated. A few days later, they returned to answer my follow-up questions and make a further upgrade. This week, when the pilot light failed, Belyea responded immediately, fixed the problem quickly, and did a thorough cleaning and servicing. I every instance the technicians have been respectful, efficient and courteous. I appreciate that they respect my older system, and do not try to upgrade unnecessarily. I will definitely continue to use them, and recommend them to others.

    New Electric Water Heater

    We were priveleged to have found BELYEA BROS to change over our water heater which was very old. Installation was painless, and efficiently organized by Stephen, the Operationss Manager. Job well done! Great folks.

    New Boiler/Water Heater System

    Our old boiler died late one afternoon after 20 years of service a week or so ago. We knew we were close as Belyea has been servicing the old boiler for years and let us know we were getting close. Within minutes we had a quote and within 2 days the old system was out and the new one in, up and running. We had also been looking to replace an aging water heater. The new boiler had an option that uses the boiler to heat a water tank, so we opted for that as well for a neat integrated system. The Belyea team was very efficient, courteous, clean and quiet throughout the whole process. I highly recommend their services to anyone who is looking for good service or a new boiler/water heater.

    Supply and install NTI boiler

    Belyea Bros. installed a new Combi unit ( heating and domestic hot water] in October 2015 The quote I was given by Mr P. was $10,147 which included everything. I did not try to barter or have any reductions. [We are a retired couple in a very small old house] the day before installation I received a phone call from Mr. P who informed us that some existing us aspestos must be removed from piping. "Don't worry about the cost, it will be minimal" after it was done I was it would cost $500. Mr. P assured me he was very sorry for the error but it had to be done before the installation. What choice did we have? I felt that $500 should be absorbed by Belyea brothers and when I spoke to the manager he informed me there was nothing he could do. I asked if we could split the cost. No. I asked if I could have my first year of service free which is normally about $240. [This would not cost Belyea Bros. that much money probably the hourly wage of their employee ] No! I was however offered a discount on my annual maintenance if I subscribe to their plan. I noticed everyone who writes a favourable letter receives this discount. Very disappointing absolutely no customer service. Everyone makes a mistake but when we are quoting this kind of money there should be some concessions made to the client.

From your remarks it seems the combination -boiler we installed last autumn has been functioning satisfactorily, as promised, however you take issue with the extra cost associated with the asbestos discovered in your basement. We are specialists in boiler installations and not an asbestos abatement company, which is why, prior to scheduling the boiler installation, we referred you to another company to contract with you directly for the asbestos removal. Once it was determined that the asbestos would impact our installers, it became an Occupational Health & Safety hazard, meaning we could not proceed until the asbestos was removed, and a clean air certificate provided showing the area to be safe for our installers ( and for you). While homeowners always have a choice in selecting whom to choose for asbestos removal, it is critically important to only work with asbestos removal companies licensed by the Ministry of the Environment who will provide a clean air certificate at the end of the job.

    Installed air conditioning units in my home that has radiators for heating.

    Excellent and professional service from the initial visit of Craig Hood who provided me with an estimate of the cost and an understandable explanation of the service and system to the installation by JIT and his partner of the air conditioning units. Cost was approximately half of estimates provided by two other companies that had attended at my residence and provided estimates.

    "Maintenance"

    Belyea Brothers East York So two years ago I bought a "heat as you go" hot water system from these guys, expensive but saves money in the long run and uses a lot less energy. A few weeks ago they called and said "hey we should come and just do routine maintenance on that, it's been two years, cleaning the innards etc a good idea". I said sure. 200 bucks. Guy comes. Is downstairs for twenty minutes, calls up to me "hey there's a little leak". I go down. Nothing had been leaking. He showed me some dampness in the very inside of it. "That's not good" he says. "The heat exchange needs to be replaced. Luckily, it's covered. Labour will be a lot though, probably 800 dollars it's a really big job." I feel like a fool of course, thinking I've been had. I tell him so. "Oh no, sir, it's a huge job and the part that's covered would be a lot of money on top of it." SO I register my displeasure, they note it, and a few days later two guys show up for the "big job". Under two hours. 850 bucks labour. Add the taxes and two hundred I'd already paid to the guy who was there for under an hour and discovered "the leak", and for answering that one phone call I'm out well over a thousand bucks. I phoned them they said someone would definitely get back to me about it. Well over a week ago. Buyer beware. Argh. Me mad.

Unfortunately, when a unit is not maintained, issues that may seem small at first often escalate into major problems. You have to remember that because your boiler provides both your heating and hot water it has been operating everyday since it was installed in April 2013. We can appreciate that a significant repair cost is not something anyone is happy to hear about. In the case of your boiler the small leak that was discovered during a maintenance call was in fact the result of corrosion at the a joint of the heat exchanger. If the leak had been ignored or not detected, it would eventually have led to the complete failure of your boiler. We believe our service team has been straight-forward , transparent and responsive with you each step of the way, and hope you may consider our service again in the future. This instance serves as a valuable reminder that routine maintenance, besides maintaining the operating efficiency of a system, can sometimes reveal a critical problem before it causes a safety issue or a catastrophic failure.

    Anothony Mazatenta

    Anthony came to check out the humidifier, changed the filter and was instrumental in signing me up for an annual maintenance plan. This will have me covered for having furnace, humidifier and air conditioning checked. He was very friendly, professional and helpful in giving tips on maintenance, etc. All-round good guy.

    furnace disconnection

    I hired Belyea to replace my water heater. They appeared to be close to finishing the job but then went out to their truck for half an hour, presumably for lunch, after which they called me down, said the job was done but they had disconnected my furnace due to dangerous issues, and presented me with two $10,000 quotes for furnace replacement. They did not call me down before to show me the furnace issues but had left me in the dark while preparing their quotes in the truck and then sprang this surprise. I felt held to ransom. This is a nasty way to operate even if the furnace concerns were legitimate. I found another furnace installer. Stay away from these people.

    During the call for the failure of an old natural draft water heater, Mr.R was repeatedly told that due to the age and visible condition of his natural draft boiler he should address his heating at the same time or install a water heater that would not be impacted when the boiler needed to be replaced. He insisted, however, that for financial reasons he would not consider other options. When our fears about the boiler were borne out and we were forced to shut it down for safety reasons, Mr. R suggested we should replace his boiler for cost. We declined , as his boiler issues were the result of age and neglect. This is one of those unfortunate situations where, in our haste to restore hot water to a client's home, we went against out better judgment and performed the work they had requested rather than refusing to proceed. Not having hot water is a situation that often causes client's to make hasty, short-term decisions that have a negative impact on future options to a heating system. Sometimes it is better to put up with the short-term discomfort in order to make a better long-term choice for your home.

    Another experience of first-rate service from Belyea!

    Huge thanks to Jon and Anthony for their dedication, kindness and skill in responding to concerns relating to a gas leak at our property in February 2016. Once again, we were very impressed with the excellent service of the company, and the courtesy and commitment of its employees!

    Cleaning and check-up of new furnace

    Today we had our two-year old furnace and water heater cleaned and checked by Dylon from Belyea Bros. He is a bright, pleasant and knowledgable young man. He was efficient and thorough and clearly answered all our questions. I would highly recommend Dylon and Belyea Bros. Karen Sinclair
