Fabulous work! Wonderful company
We hired Steven to make and install some built-in cabinets, with fireplace, in our basement. After consulting several cabinet companies and getting wildly high costs and long time lines, Steven came and met with us. He was on time, and discussed with us exactly how we wanted to use the space and what our ideal units would look like. He came up with several suggestions and ultimately a good and fair price. The cabinets turned out beautifully and were done exactly on schedule. There were no cost overruns, no time delays, no bad surprises. Steven, and his crew, were extremely professional and pleasant to deal with. It was a pleasure to deal with someone who displays such incredible integrity. Thank you for a fabulous job. We are thrilled with the results and are enjoying our room tremendously. I would highly recommend you meet with Steven before hiring anyone to do your work.

Incredible Fireplace Mantle
Steven and his team are amazing! I found his info from HomeStars reviews, and viewed the website gallery. From the moment we talked over the phone, Steven understood our needs and timeline. His estimate was the best around. The attention to detail from the beginning was outstanding. We showed him an online picture of the mantle we liked and he confirmed measurements on site. We showed him the crown molding and baseboard trim we were going to install and he incorporated them into the mantle. We did not have the gas insert installed nor the tiling done on the surround. He gave us the exact dimensions for the cement board and recommended that we have the surround tiled and insert installed before installing the mantle. His advice to have the tiles done first saved us big $$ on the tiling since they didn't need to cut as much tile to fill in an already defined space. Also, there would be no damage to the mantle from grouting. Steven was on schedule with production (5 weeks) and installation. Installation took ~3.5 hours. A lot of work was done to make it fit perfectly since the walls in our 100 year old home are not true. We also had existing baseboards that they were able to merge with the base on the mantle to look like they were done at the same time. Our living room was as clean after as it was before they started. I would highly recommend Steven and his Black Forest team for any woodworking project. We have already started the plans for 2 more projects!

Family room built-in wall units
Steven designed and built our wall units for our family room. We are so pleased with how they turned out. Steven offers quality work, beautiful design, and timely execution. He and his team are all professionals and a pleasure to work with. We have a few other projects around the house to do, and will definitely be working with Steven again.

Bedroom Fireplace corner mantel
Steven and his team did an amazing job! Steven was the only company who was willing to work with us because the room from the wall to the firewall was very limited! Other companies we contacted said they could not do it. Steven did an amazing job! Very impressed on how it turned out! Highly recommended!!!!

Built-in Family Room Wall Unit
Steven and his team were fantastic to work with. One challenge was designing around an existing corner fireplace. The style of the original mantel would not have matched well so it was necessary to remove it and design a new mantel to meet and seamlessly transition to the new wall unit. The design also included puck lighting for the top row of the unit. I have some experience with woodworking so it was a pleasure to see the care, attention to detail and the workmanship that was applied. I would say that the job was near flawless from consultation, design through to installation. The cost was not cheap, but for something that very much enhances the look of our family room and that we intend to enjoy for years, it was worth the investment.

Custom built cherry wood wall unit and fireplace
Steven and his crew did an amazing job on my wall unit/fireplace. At the beginning of the project Steven came over to discuss the design. He had an idea of what he would/could do. After our meeting he realized that I had some definite design ideas of my own which I shared. Together with his expertise and my ideas the plan was finalized. I can not express how professionally the installation was performed and the high quality of the workmanship of the actual wall unit/fireplace (height 9 ft x 12 ft wide). I now have an extremely beautiful built-in piece of furniture that matches my personal style and my other furnishings. Thank you to Steven and company for my unique one of a kind unit. I would highly recommend this company.

Fireplace Surround
When we looked to have our Custom fireplace surround done for our family room we researched and received a few at-home quotes. The person who impressed us the most was Steven from “Black Forest Woodworking Company”. You could tell just by speaking to him that he is a very skilled and talented woodworker who prides himself in his work! Steven gave us many helpful ideas to consider! The end result was more than we expected! We couldn’t believe how beautiful it looks. We are really overwhelmed by the workmanship & craftsmanship and impressed with his skill and meticulous attention to detail! The owner Steven a great person and a true professional and a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Steven from “Black Forest Woodworking Company” Thanks again Steve and to your staff for taken the time to make sure everything turned out perfect! Basement Media Unit
I never write reviews but after my experience with Steven my husband and I knew we had to spread the word, for word of mouth recommendations are invaluable. Living in Toronto where the homes are older and are in constant need of repairs or upgrades, my husband and I have dealt with many contractors over the years. Steven was very professional and such a pleasure to work with. Steven takes such pride in his work and it really shows. Steven will provide you his input but was never pushy in his recommendations, he just wanted to ensure his clients were happy. The media unit was absolutely beautiful and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out. We will absolutely use Black Forest Woodworking again without a question. I promise you will be happy with the level of service provided by Steven and his team RELIABLE. HONEST.

Custom built-in wall unit
Like every review on the Black Forest Woodworking Home Stars page, I have nothing but AMAZING things to say about Steven and his crew - which is why I choose them!!! Steven is a pleasure to work with which is a refreshing change for this industry, in my opinion, it's hard to find honest, hardworking people who love what they do, listen to the client and follow through on every aspect of what was agreed upon. Steven and I spoke a few times, we sent pictures back and forth via text message to ensure what I was envisioning was understood and Steven sent examples of what he could do to fulfill my vision. He came out once to take measurements and confirm colour, handles etc. Timelines were more than reasonable, even faster than I anticipated. Steven and his crew came to our house at 7 am on the day of installation and it was all done in one day. No inconvenience to me or my family. They covered furniture and the floors therefore we had very little to no clean up!! It was truly a wonderful experience and I love love love the unit. I can't even remember what it looked like before (except when I look back at pictures) it looks like it's always been there. I can't say enough good things about this company, the owner and the staff. You can see for yourself in the pictures attached. Steven is simply a very nice person who I am grateful I got the chance to meet and spend some time with. Thank you again

Custom Armoire
Steven was very professional and kept to the agreed timeline and costs. He sat down to the review the plan in detail and make recommendations. He built us a beautiful show piece in the entrance way of our home. We love having a space for our coats, boots, hats, keys etc. I highly recommend Steven and his team!
