    Laundry room reno

I first met Johnny 5 years ago when we renovated our laundry room. I was sure it was not possible to move the stack in such a way to make this project fesable but John came in took one look around told me to think outside the box and Ta da a brand new, expanded, laundry room. We were so pleased with Johnny that we have consistently used his company in our rental units and another home we purchased in Rockcliffe Park.

Basement Rough In, Upstairs bath reno and much more

When my wife and I finally decided that it was time to renovate our basement and include a relaxing 4 piece bathroom we had a lot of questions and started our search on Google. After seeing John the plumber ranked so well and with so many people recommending him online we decided to give him a call. We were completely impressed with the response time as well as the thorough quote and openness when answering questions about what was important to address and what was not. In the end our basement renovation went off without a hitch save for some finishing issues which were dealt with immediately and professionally. I suppose it is not common to mention a negative when giving a 10 out of 10 review, but I felt it was important to mention how problems were dealt with and the fact that it led to us hiring John the plumber to completely redo our upstairs bathroom as well as move our laundry room from the basement to upstairs and to replace all of the old pipes in our house with new. We also had John the Plumber supply and install a new jet pump, pressure tank and hot water tank. I am constantly recommending them.

    Renovation

I have been using JTP services for many years. Always had good reliable service with basic repairs and some major renos. Pricing is always fair and the guys are knowledgeable. I wouldn't call anyone else - they are my go-to plumbers.

    sewer back-up

We had a blockage in our pipe system, which lead to a sewer back-up into our basement. We called John the Plumber and the plumber that was sent to our house spent 4 hrs snaking our cast iron pipes. We were told that our pipes were slanted and the only way to fix the problem was to rip up the floors and replace all cast iron pipes. That day, we were charged $500 and we received a quote for $7500 for the pipe replacement job. Four days later, the sewer backed up again and we were seriously considering exchanging all the pipes but thankfully we got a second opinion from a different plumber, who said that he suspects that the pipes were not snaked properly and the problem was never really resolved. He recommended to have the pipes cleaned with hydro pressure. We called a different company, they sent two plumbers over and within 45 minutes the pipes were cleaned and we received a full pipe assessment at the same time. As suspected, the blockage was never fully unblocked by John the Plumber and there were no slanted pipes in the system. Since the hydro cleaning, we haven't had a problem and that was over 2 months ago.

    Answer from pro:

Dear Carmen, We are very sorry to hear that you were not happy with the paid and free services we provided. We value feedback on our service and would like to thank you for taking the time to write a review. Your pipes are made of cast iron. This material is seldom used in new residential construction because it deteriorates over time. The free camera inspection we performed while at your home showed evidence of both sagging and deterioration. Standing water was seen in the pipe, which indicated that it is not sloped correctly, as well as flaking pipes, which indicates deterioration. As with many professions, there can be differing opinions on the best course of action; which is why we do not recommend hydro cleaning or “flushing” old cast iron pipes. If the pipes are already deteriorating, like yours are, blasting high-pressure water through the pipes can damage them even further. When you contacted us after the work was completed we answered your questions and sent you the necessary supplementary information you requested. When we did not hear back from you, we assumed we had answered your questions and that perhaps you’d found another company to replace your deteriorating pipes. Thank you again for your feedback. As stated on our invoices we do not warranty work completed on blocked or slow running drains because these problems are often caused by homeowner activities or damaged pipes. Going forward we will do our best to make customers better aware that we do not warranty drain clearing before beginning work to prevent the confusion you experienced.

    Plumbing leak in basement

After coming home from work late one night, I heard dripping when I was unloading parcels, I look up to see water leaking from the ceiling to the basement carpet floor. The workman took the smallest section of drywall away to determine the problem. It was amazing to hear similar problems happen but the best was not having a huge bill at the end.

    Kitchen and bathroom sinks

I don't remember how much we paid, but it was quite reasonable. Our kitchen tap needed to be replaced. They diagnosed the problem quickly, found a replacement on sale and installed it the same day. One of the bathroom drains no longer opened or closed properly. We plan to remodel this bathroom in the near future, so rather than replace the whole tap and sink, a new push-down pop-up drain plug was installed. In both cases service was prompt, friendly and reasonably priced. We will call John the Plumber again in the future.

quality and freindly service .... competitive rates

I required a quick relocation of kitchen plumbing for a renovation project....after getting quoted over $2000 + tax (which included a 15% discount) for a pretty simple job from another plumber (AVOID)...oh did I mention it was $50 just for the quote...I decided to weigh options and called John The Plumber. Without even seeing my existing plumbing he guaranteed a lower rate and had his guys at my place within 2 days on a holiday no less (DS wouldn't do it until the following day). it took less then 3 hours for the rough in stage so obviously I phoned them back to do the finishing once the kitchen was ready. Same thing....quality work from honest , friendly and down to earth team. Highly recommended....no need to look anywhere else for your plumbing needs. Will certainly go back to them when it is time to tackle the bathroom renos. thanks to you and your team John jansen
