    Wildlife control

Gates Wildlife Control came strongly recommended by one of our neighbours, about three years ago. They did an excellent, professional and thorough job, with honest feedback. That job took about 2 days. Recently we had a squirrel nest on our roof, And we did not think twice about calling Gates Wildlife. They once again showed the stellar service we received 3 years ago.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Private User, the next time you see your neighbour please thank them for recommending us to you. I really appreciate your reference of our service as "stellar". That makes my week! Thank you for your excellent review and for hiring us a second time. Brad Gates, B.Sc. Owner / President - Awarded HomeStars Best Of 2015 & 2016

    Raccoon(s) in attic

We were not sure if we had raccoon(s) or squirrel(s) in our attic. We would hear scratching and scraping in the attic at night (e.g. at 5am when it was still pitch dark outside). We called AAA Gates based on the positive reviews on Homestars. It is very helpful that they are willing to come out to take a look and provide a detailed quote for free. It turns out that a very determined raccoon had managed to pull the cover off one of our roof vents (apparently this is not uncommon), giving them free access to our attic. In fact, my mother had found the cover on the ground a few days earlier, but had no idea what it was. The quote to install the 1-way door, and to return later to replace the door with permanent raccoon proofing on the roof vents, was clear and detailed. We went ahead with the work. This was back in October. We haven't had a problem since. Thanks Andrea and Blake at AAA Gates.

Hi K, it makes me happy to hear that you did your homework on HomeStars before hiring a wildlife control. Far too many homeowners hire the first company they find on the internet and are disappointed with the result. Thank you for complimenting Andrea and Blake and for writing such a terrific review. Squirrels in the attic

Chris arrived right on time, was very friendly and knowledgeable. He worked quickly to identify the issue, provided photos of the damage and an accurate estimate of the work that needed to be done. The work was done well, and quickly, with provision of after photos of the work he did. I was going to ask him to go into the attic to see if there was damage inside, but he offered to do this before I had a chance to ask him. We're very pleased by the service and would recommend AAA Gates Wildlife to all my friends and family.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Christine, as you mentioned, providing our customers with photos of the damage caused by the animals is an important tool for us. It allows them to see how the animals were able to get in and visualize what we need to do to provide a long lasting solution. Thank you for your excellent review of my company and for speaking so highly of Chris. Brad Gates, B.Sc. Owner / President - Awarded HomeStars Best Of 2015 & 2016

Metal screening on edge of roof to prevent raccoons from tearing up the shingles

We had new shingles put on our roof in mid-August of this year and we have had to have it repaired twice in the past 3 months due to extensive damage to the shingles and the leaf guard being torn up by raccoons. My husband and I find this very strange as in the 40 years we have lived in our home, we have never had any trouble or even seen a raccoon.I called Gates Wildlife Control to explain what was happening and to see if they could make any suggestions as to how we could stop this from happening again. They sent Chris, one of their Senior Wildlife Control Officers and he went on the roof to see the damage. The majority of the damage was around the edge of the roof on all 4 sides as the original builders had left a small gap of about 2" from the edge of the shingle to the gutter making it easy for the raccoons to put their hands in and lift the shingles, so Chris suggested that he could install a metal screening which would protect the edge of the roof as well as cover the gutter preventing this from happening again. He left me a quote and told me to think about it and call the company if we wanted to proceed and I called them on Saturday afternoon. Our roof was repaired on Saturday and Chris came on Tuesday morning to install the metal screen and did a very neat and tidy job as you can see in the picture above.Gates' called the day before to confirm the appointment and Chris arrived right on time. Great Job!. Thank you Chris.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Carol W., thank you for the detailed account of your situation. It may seem strange but we do see your situation repeat itself from time to time. Older shingles are a lot stiffer and their rigidness helps protect the gap between the roof and the fascia board. When they are replaced with much more pliable new shingles and a raccoon happens to be searching for a den site, it can easily lift or rip the shingles to reveal the gap. Once the opening is exposed, they stick their nose into the space and chew on the free edge of the wood. Over time they can create an opening large enough for them to climb in. I would like to also thank you for complimenting Chris on the work he performed for you. Brad Gates, B.Sc. Owner / President - Awarded HomeStars Best Of 2015 & 2016

Great thanks to Joel, he came on time, very experienced and knowledgeable, quickly find the problem and efficiently fix it. now the noise on my roof is gone, but I'll keep an eye on how long will this good job last. like I told Joel, I'll come back to review next summer, by then, it will prove the quality of this company is good indeed or not. so far, very happy with their service, especially thanks to Joel, again.
