    AC Replacement

My AC failed during this brutal heatwave. Steve came by on Sunday to do a complete comfort and efficiency assessment of our home. He was friendly, professional, extremely knowledgeable, and very thorough. He actually did a complete heat loss calculation on my home to assess just how much cooling I need. On Monday, Dan and Mike showed up right on time and did a great job installing my new unit. We are nice and comfy now. Our old air conditioner barely kept up in extreme weather but thanks to the pros at Premi-Air, the whole family is comfortable and happy.

    Answer from pro:

Mark, it was truly a pleasure working with a professional like yourself. Enjoy the summer and have much success in all your projects. Thank you so much for the kind review.

Looking at our air handler and compressor - broken

We called Premi-Air and AC and heating after reading all the great reviews. When we called them it was fine -- that is they were very efficient and nice over the phone. We gave them specific details of our system -- We have a air handler located in the attic and a compressor outside, the air blows through 'holes' in the ceiling. Since the handler is located in the attic -- which we converted for my daughter's room -- Someone could only come and check out the system in the evening or very early in the morning. Premi-air promptly informed us that someone would be by within three days, at 8 AM. You can imagine our excitement. We were suffering from the heat wave and my daughter could not sleep in her room, moreover we have a 3 month old infant. The technician arrived, stayed for 3 hours and left, telling us that the AC should be in full force within a few hours. Well a few hours and two days passed without any change, furthermore the air blowing out was HOT!!!!. We called again. The same evening someone else arrived letting us know that the compressor was dead, gone finished. Really? Then why did the other technician inform us that all was functional? The technician from YOUR company? The nice technician hummm and aaaed and said he didn't know. He told us the reason for it's death -- It was a 20 year old compressor. We asked kindly if we could purchase another compressor to replace the dead one, oh no he told us you need to replace the entire system in your house, moreover this would take a few days since the technicians could only work early in the mornings because of the air handler's location. In addition he roughly estimated the cost to be 7000 - 10 000$. Given the technology and what we needed. Egad! However the heat was stifling. We said fine, could you please ask someone from your company to call us in order to set up a quote and let us know how quickly this could be done. The same evening a friend came over and said "Wait, I have a name for you, I've used him all the time." A little reluctantly we accepted his advice and called his 'friend' the AC expert -- You can imagine we were a little frustrated with people coming in and out of our house, telling us this and that. Next day we called this other company and OVER THE PHONE (no charging us 150$ to enter our door like premi) they told us the compressor could be replaced not a problem, no need to replace the whole system, he just needs to find the right compressor. Told us he'd call around and get back to us. Really we said, but Premi told us we needed to replace the whole system. Naw no worries and it will cost you approx. 2500$ WOW WOW. Sure enough the same day he told us he found the correct compressor and informed us that the next day two technicians would come by and remove the old monster and replaced it with a brand new one. When they left within hours the house was cool again, no thanks to premi. A few things, in response to the owners comments. While I appreciate the detailed explanation a few things do not add up, for one, why seal and replace the coolant in the compressor when it was broken and non operational? The second technician told us that we would not be charged for this error and indeed it was an error, there was nothing to fix, or patch or replace, the compressor was dead, therefore the technician spent the time doing something that was not necessary and this is the point of the review. The point being is that the compressor was broken for awhile, the diagnostic that should have been done by the first technician should have been: "I am sorry there is nothing we can do since the compressor is broken". The second technician informed us that it had been dead for some time, perhaps even over a year. The facts are as follows, the first technician charged us almost 500$ which was erroneous, the second technician even said this. Both my husband and I appreciated the second technician analysis and suggestions we were given and letting us know the options regarding the long term viability. For the record the second technician never even told us that in the short term we could replace the compressor for $1500, ever. Never. The least that can be done in this matter is own up to some mistakes that were done, no one is perfect and we are all human.

Hi Mr. and Mrs. T, Firstly, thank you for taking the time to leave this review and express your experience with our company. This feedback is very valuable to us as it helps us to improve our services. You mention in your review that "The technician arrived, stayed for 3 hours and left, telling us that the AC should be in full force within a few hours. Well a few hours and two days passed without any change" In our records, our technician diagnosed that your system has a small refrigerant leak. At the time, our technician explained our company procedures when we encounter a leak on a unit that is over 20 years old. Since it is not a good investment to spend alot of money repairing such an old machine, we give the customer an option of using a chemical leak sealer, which is relatively inexpensive and is therefore the only worthwhile investment in an old unit. Our technician made it very clear that due to the age of the machine this chemical leak sealer was not guaranteed to work but the only viable option short of replacing the entire unit. You chose to try the chemical leak sealer. After this repair was done, our technician measured and recorded the temperatures, pressures, voltage and amperage and confirmed that the system was operating properly. This call happened the morning of Thursday July 8, 2010. On Tuesday July 13, 5 days later, we received a call from you reporting that the air conditioner was not working once again. We had a technician at your home that same day. Our technician discovered that your compressor had seized. You write "Then why did the other technician inform us that all was functional? The technician from YOUR company? The nice technician hummm and aaaed and said he didn't know." In fact the technician did not hesitate and clearly explained that since the compressor had been running hot due to a low refrigerant charge until our first visit to your home, the compressor suffered damage and had now seized. This was very consistent with what our first technician told you that the chemical sealer is not guaranteed to work. You responded, "We asked kindly if we could purchase another compressor to replace the dead one, oh no he told us you need to replace the entire system in your house" As a matter of fact, the technician quoted to you the price to replace your compressor at a cost of $1,500. Although replacing the compressor for approximately $2,500 which is what you decided to do using another contractor, did restore your cooling, it is an option that our experience has shown will not lead to long term value or satisfaction. There are many reasons for this and I will mention a few. Firstly, since the system has a leak, you will experience further failure of the air conditioning. Secondly, your existing system uses R-22 refrigerant, which is no longer produced and is becoming prohibitively expensive and scarce. Since we always focus on the long term value and satisfaction of our customers, we inform them of all their options and help them with making an informed decision. Our technician also offered to you the option of replacing your compressor but explained to you why we do not recommend this approach. At the time, you also expressed the disadvantage of a Band Aid fix. You then write "Next day we called this other company and OVER THE PHONE (no charging us 150$ to enter our door like premi)" We do not charge $150 to enter a customer's home. We charge $145 to diagnose the problem and provide a fixed quote to repair. The other company that you called did not need to come to your home to quote the repair because you had provided him with our diagnostic written report. I am glad that you did get the immediate relief from the heat, and I hope that this fix will give you satisfaction. In closing, I would like to mention that we are always available to discuss our customers' complaints or concerns. We regret that you did not contact us at any time to discuss this issue and give us the opportunity to explain. I have already left you a telephone message to call me and I invite you to call me to discuss this issue. My name is Joe Simon, and I am the owner of this company. I would love to speak with you personally. My number is 416-781-1054 extension 23.

    A/C failure

Technician came afterhours to my home when A/C failed on July 5, during a heat wave and smog alert was courteous, knowledgeable while patiently explained the issue. He ran back to the company to get a part and had my unit up and running in no time at all. This was followed by a quick and informative tutorial on A/C and refrigeration. It was most certainly a cool and refreshing expirence!

    Comfort Improvement

My wife and I bought an older home in Toronto in the spring of last year and as summer approached this year we dreaded what we knew would be another scorcher upstairs. Having heard of Premi-Air I decided to give them a call to see if they had a solution to my problem. Victor visited my home and did a very thorough inspection. Right away he saw that there was no return air grille upstairs and there was therefore no way to get the hot air out of the second floor. Victor talked me out of buying an air conditioner for the second floor, a job that would have been more expensive than his ultimate solution, and instead found a way to connect the second floor to the return air on the first floor. Hans and Daniel did a fantastic job doing the work and even though I was prepared to have to do some patching and painting they were so good it wasn’t even necessary. And let me tell you, it absolutely worked. We don’t get hit with the blast of hot air as we walk up the stairs anymore!

    Maintain Air conditioner and furnace

Our old house was having difficulty with the air-conditioning, specifically, the second floor was not really getting much cold air! We had Premi-Air come in and give us an assessment on different options to solve the problem, as well as to maintain our air conditioner and furnace. They were prompt, knowledgeable and professional. All was conducted with no mess or fuss and everything is working well. I would highly recommend them.

In-attic AC Maiontenance and potential repair.

I was having issues with my AC not blowing cold air. I had no idea if it was a simple or expensive issue and called Premi-Air out of the blue after a google search. Other AC repair companies wanted me to wait over a month for service. One I was referred to by a neighbour, wanted to charge me $500 just to go into my attic where my unit is located siting all kinds of reasons - PLUS whatever the service and parts costs would be. I am a single female homeowner in an upper middle class neighbourhood and have been on the end of many attempts to take advantage of my lack of knowledge or the incorrect assumption that I am able to pay a premium for services. Raphael from Premi-air arrived, was extemely professional but friendly. He explained what he was doing as he was doing it. The issues were simple - hoses that had fallen off and just needed reattaching and duct tape and some minor parts repairs. I couldnot have seen up in the attic had he told me it needed major, expensive repairs... I was happily shocked. I am normally a tough customer. But when I find a great, honest service, I am also a loyal customer and will refer liberally. I asked Raphael to leave behind some business cards and I have already handed four out on my street. Believe me - I would not have taken the time to write this had I not had such a great experience and believe companies that operate like this deserve to thrive.

    fixed furnace and air conditioning

Another wonderful experience with Premi Air. My air conditioner broke down during an extremely hot week. I put in a call to Premi Air. Although they were experiencing an unusual high volume of calls that day, they were prompt in responding to my call, and sending a technician. They proceeded to patiently give me all necessary information to make an informed decision. As soon as I decided, the part was ordered and installed by the next day.

    Residential A/C & Heating Systems

Our Central A/C & Furnace both needed to be replaced. The A/C broke down last week (installed 1981) and with a heat wave in the forecast for the following week we wanted the new system in fast! I had scouted several companies, but what struck me instantly about Premi-Air Heating & Air Conditioning was A.J.’s (Sales Manager) helpfulness, professionalism and willingness to fully explain the steps they would take to replace my A/C and furnace. A.J. expedited an appointment for that evening. Jack (President-Residential Division) came out in the evening and took all the necessary measurements and performed a heat loss test. Jack explained which A/C system and how much tonnage would be appropriate for our home and the benefit of modulating design for a furnace that uses a firing rate at 1% increments to match comfort levels more exactly. Jack was also very knowledgeable in every possible rebate, grant & tax credit, with his assistance and direction I had a Home Energy Audit done immediately,( our savings with rebates, grants & tax credits is a whopping $4,205!!). The following morning A.J. called with the heat loss calculations, explained the system they recommended and reviewed the costs. The following day two technicians installed the new A/C & Furnace. The two technicians (Nick and Paul) were very courteous and left the work area spotless. For the past two days we have had temperatures in the 30’s (high 30’s with the humidity factor) I had the system set at 71 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius) and the system held that temperature through the house even with a house full of guests for dinner. Premi-Air took the stress and headache out of what might have otherwise been a daunting experience for us. They delivered efficient friendly service and sound quoting. I will continue to recommend Premi-Air Heating & Air Conditioning to family and friends.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you Joseph for that detailed review. I am so delighted that you appreciate all the hard work, knowledge and preparation involved in a system replacement. It's not just changing a box in your basement, rather, it is a comprehensive review of the requirements of your home and your comfort preferences. Anyone can install a furnace, but not all companies have the training to calculate just how much heat and cooling you require. Not many companies know how to navigate through the complex web of government and manufacturers'incentives and rebates to maximize your funding. And not many companies care and appreciate your business as much as we do. Thank you so much!

    Boiler Removal and Installation

We had a very old boiler (approx 80y) that needed replacing. Joe came and offered a professional and thoughtful assessment of the situation and a competitive estimate was available quickly. It was important for us to find a company we felt we could trust in our home since we would not be home while the work was being done. The removal of the old boiler and asbestos went very well and we are very happy with our new Baxi Luna boiler.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you so much for that kind review. It was truly a pleasure working in your home. Coming to site after boiler and asbestos removal and finding a freshly painted room with a new fresh floor was just amazing. I consider myself quite lucky to be able to work with fine people like yourself. Please do not hesitate to call on us if you have any questions or concerns. You have my personal cell number and I urge you to use it whenever you need to. I want to wish you all the best in your beautiful home. May you make many happy memories there!
