new major appliance for new home

Purchased 5 new appliances when moving into new home in summer 2008, and also purchased extended warranty (Performance Protection Plan a.k.a. "PPP")for the fridge, stove, dishwasher, and hood vent (skipped the microwave since it was only $150). The total cost of the PPP was $450 for the 4 appliances which will cover us until summer 2012. Earlier this week my Blomberg Dishwasher didn't drain and wouldn't go into cycle again (because it was still flooded) so I called Tasco to understand how the extended warranty works. They said if it was my fault (e.g. if food was the cause of the blockage) then I would be responsible for the service call. I checked everything from the filters to the drainage hose into the sink and nothing was clogged so I decided to place a service call. When the technician came he spent about 45 minutes trying to figure out how to take apart my dishwasher, yanking away and damaging some of the internal parts. He called his boss and still can't figure it out and then I had to read the installation manual and help HIM out. Finally the technician was able to remove the drain pump and found a piece of broken plastic that was lodged. One of the plastic tabs that held the cutlery basket together was broken and managed to go past the filter. The technical called his boss and advised any cloggage was considered "maintenance" and not covered by Tasco warranty. I paid the technican and called Tasco Warrnty. Even before asking about my name, make & model of Dishwasher, etc... the Tasco Agent immediately interrupted me and read from her script (seemingly) that all maintenance work is not covered by the warranty and a broken plastic trim is cosmetics only and does not affect peformance of the dishwasher therefore it's not covered. I understand that if the cloggage is due to food or other items I placed into the dishwasher then it's my fault, but the fact that the blockage was caused by an INTERNAL PART of the dishwasher that had broken off. Of course, the Tasco agent is now in broken record mode repeating the same denial and refused to carry on the conversation any longer. A couple points 1) Tasco should not be sending technicans who have NOT worked on my make & model of dishwashers before. Any HACK can try and look for screws and disassemble an appliance. I paid for two hours labor for this technician for trial and error when it should have been a quick 30-min job to open up and check the drainage pump. 2) The PPP covers performance related issues only, but if that performance issue was caused by a faulty INTERIOR part of the appliance it should be covered! And BTW, Tasco spends about 1 hour convincing us to buy the PPP but wouldn't spend more than 5 min listening to our warranty claim. Update: July 2012 - we went into Tasco Richmond Hill to see what Tasco would do for us and none of the sales nor warranty folks want to discuss or do anything about our case. At this time our warranty is up and since we did not make any successful claims we decided to use the $450 warranty as credit towards a new purchase. This is where our experience got more sour - when we were sold the warranty the salesman focused on how we can used the warranty premiums as a attire credit if we didn't claim warranty, but now that we want to use the credit all sorts of conditions come up!!!! We were told the following conditions - minimum $500 purchase, can only use one product warranty credit per each new purchase, meaning we have to buy 4 new appliance each worth $500 or more... Essentially rendering the warranty credit worthless! We wasted more time with Tasco and should not have aggravated our experience even more by giving this company a second chance. Identifying ourselves as Homestar reviewer meant nothing to the Tasco staff other than getting a couple blanked looks from them not knowing what it is...

    Washer/dryer combo

I recently had to deal with Tasco for an extended warranty claim and experienced nothing but friendliness, professionalism, and satisfactory results. My condominium building purchased the washer/dryer combo from Tasco more than 3 years ago. Like many residents in my building, I also purchased an extended warranty service from them. The machine recently ceased to work and I called Tasco for the extended warranty claim. I was greeted with courtesy. They communicated the problem report to the company they subcontracted for the extended service. The Tasco staff who took care of my case diligently followed up with all the companies involved, including the manufacturer. Throughout the entire process, she never failed to provide me with regular updates so that I knew that my case was being worked on. When it was determined that the unit would be too expensive to repair, they arrange for a replacement unit and took care of all the financial arrangements without any hassles on my part. I would definitely purchase appliances and services from Tasco again. I used to manage a technical support group in my previous company, who subcontracts services to other companies as well. I understand the challenges of managing activities and resources in other companies. The fact that Tasco managed to do it quickly and efficiently is a testament to their commitment and efficiency.

    Appliances For New House

As shoppers you want to shop for the best possible price. TASCO has the price match guarantee and Allan advertised it. He even said, "No one will beat our price." My wife and I had 6 months to buy our appliances for our new house so we had time to shop around. We went to TASCO first and signed an agreement for all our appliances. We shopped around (AS CUSTOMERS THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO DO) and saw cheaper prices at another place. Instead of paying $1500 for the washer & dryer, we found a place that would give us the same model for $999 with stands. THAT'S ALMOST $600 CHEAPER! The next day we went back and told Allan. TASCO matched the price. PLEASE REMEMBER we still had 6 months to move into our house and this was our 2nd visit with Allan. We let time elapse and 2 months before we moved we went to another appliance place and got prices that were $200 or $300 cheaper then TASCO. I called Allan and told him that we just wanted to keep the washer & dryer and cancel the other appliances. Allan said "You know what? I'll cancel the whole thing." I didn't think I heard him right and I said, "No I just want to cancel the stove, fridge and dishwasher. We want to keep the washer & dryer." Allan then began yelling, "I spent too much time with you and I don't want to spend anymore. Come in here so I can swipe your credit card and cancel the whole thing. CLICK." He hung up on me. In total we spent 2 days in store and a couple of minutes on the phone. Allan said he spent too much time. Are you serious? I spoke with head office and was told that as a customer I should not have been treated that way. I spoke with a lady in head office and she told me that there are exceptions to the price match. A company won't match the price if the company is losing money. AS A CUSTOMER I DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING I CAN GET CHEAPER SOMEWHERE ELSE. That's our right and we should not be treated in disgusting way like Allan treated me on the phone. I don't care how much time is spent. I'm spending over $6000 of my hard earned money and if you work hard for me to get a sale then you'll get my business. I emailed TASCO's manager and said they would handle the situation. The email contained no apology and was full of spelling errors. REAL PROFESSIONAL. I never want to step into another TASCO again. TASCO PRICES $6500 THE PRICE I ENDED UP PAYING $5100 FOLKS free delivery and installation. That's $1400 cheaper. The only bright light in this situation was the lady from Head Office. She treated me with respect that every customer should be treated and understood my anger.

    Answer from pro:

As a consumer you do have the right to shop around to get price match or get the lowest price. We are sorry that this has happened.

Kitchen appliances, dishwasher, fridge, double ovens, microwave, cooktop vent for above the cooktop

Ordered my appliances June 16, they were the first thing I did for the renovations. I was told that the cabinet makers and the granite people would need the specs. The renovations are done but for the appliances, as of September 30 the cook top and the inline blower have not arrived. I will need to pay for the cabinet makers and the granite people to come back to finish the work. I was told that the appliances would be here mid July. Tasco has not once called me with why the appliances are not here. I have called them repeatedly and was told that the inline blower will not be here until October 5th by the shipping department, when I went in to pick up the cook top I was told by the warehouse that I will not receive it until after thanksgiving. I now will have to pay the appliance installer for two visits because I need the ovens and the cook top for Thanksgiving. The sales people at Tasco were excellent when I bought the appliances but no one has been helpful since then, and that includes the store manager. According to the shipping department the distribution centre didn't have the inline blower, I never received an explanation for why the cook top was there in early August but not there by the end of August. I am completely disgusted with the way Tasco does business and I advise anyone thinking of using them to rethink it.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Ruth, Tasco is sorry that there was delay in receiving your appliances. Some appliance models we don't stock and if they are a special order it can take up 6-8 weeks. We don't have control over back order issues unfortunately and sometimes are at the mercy of the manufacturer.

    Bought a dishwasher

we bought a GE all stainless steel interior and exterior dishwasher from tasco in brampton. The sales person was very patient showed us all models with pros and cons. Finally he did recommend the one with SS interior rather than standard plastic one. After 4 years, we really owe to his advice and are very happy that we paid little bit extra for ss interior.

    Answer from pro:

Tasco is pleased to hear that your are happy with your appliance choice and the salesperson advice. If you need dish washing detergent we sell as well!

    Over the range microwave

Placed an order for an over-the-range microwave on July 23rd and was initially told it would be ready for pick-up by Aug 3rd. Taking for granted that I should expect things to arrive when I am told they will, I booked an installer through Tasco for Aug 5th. On Aug 3rd I called the store and was told that the microwave would not arrive until Aug 5th. I asked the Tasco employee on the phone to cancel my appointment with the installer and rebook once we have confirmed that the microwave was ready. Aug 5th arrives and the installer calls at 7AM asking when he can come in. I end up having to explain to him that I don't even have the mircowave yet. Later that day I call Tasco again and I'm informed that the mircowave will now not arrive until Aug 12th. I made the mistake of paying for everything up front. Tasco now has my money and doesn't seem to care when I actually will receive my microwave. At no point have I received an explanation for the delays or any hint of an apology for the inconvenience they have caused. I bought at Tasco because their price was about 10% cheaper than other stores. Now I would have much rathered paid the extra money to have been able to do business with a company that operates with at least some integrity.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Burt, Tasco apologizes that there was a delay in your microwave being available. Through no fault of or own sometimes appliances can become unavailable and at moment's notice, without prior knowledge. Your comments are much appreciated.

    Kitchen Reno

The salesman wasn't truthful to us to make the sale, then said we would forfeit the deposit if we didn't take it. Mario never returned phone calls. We ordered 6 weeks before delivery and then were told that the dishwasher was not available. The stove had a huge dent in it that they tried to make us take. Awful. Do not ever go to Tasco. You are warned.

    Answer from pro:

Hi Jason, Tasco Distributors is at the mercy of the manufacturer especially when it come to back and special orders. There are customer's that sometimes do take delivery with minor cosmetic damage with a damage refund, uncertain if this was an option offered to you at the time of your delivery. Thank you for comments.

    Service call

I called yesterday to book a service call. After waiting on hold forever, someone picks up the phone, only to ask me to hold. Why answer the phone if you aren't prepared. Finally I speak live with someone. I explain my problem and reason for asking for a service call and he immediately starts to try to talk me out of it. I'm having problems with the oven, it's been 3 years and never serviced, and I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. He then tells me "fine, he'll send someone out but if they don't find anything wrong with it I'll have to pay for the service call". What kind of crappy service is that!! My fancy brochure says unlimited service calls. The other thing is - after all that he tells me he'll have someone call me within 48 hours to book the call. The service is third partied out. Even though the brochure says all calls are handled by Tasco - they're not!!! Trust me. Don't make the same mistake we did. Do your homework before you buy anything from them. Go elsewhere!!!

    Answer from pro:

Quite often Tasco receives calls with customer's that have an extended warranty, that may not always need. The brochure if you still have a copy of it has exclusions, one of them being if there is no fault found you will have to pay for the service call. We rely on the manufacturer'rs specified authorized service centers to do service. Tasco does not have or employ technicians. We are sorry you went through this.

choosing all appliance for new kitchen renovation

Excellent store with excellent sales staff. Very helpful and very patient staff with great knowledge and ideals. We renovated our kitchen and needed all new appliances however were lost in making a decision with all the brands out there. With the staff here in this store, not only did they take the time to explain the difference in brands and prices, but they also took the time to suggest different models for us and explain the pros and cons of each model selected. THIS WAS THE BEST SERVICE EVER
