    Mould and lack of accountability

After 5 years in our home we noticed water leaking in through our basement window. Upon looking closer at the window sill we noticed the wood was full of mould. The insulation looked wet so we pulled it back to see and water poured out. Everything was soaked, mould filling the window well and below. After contacting Excel they stated that since we opened the vapour barrier (the same day we contacted them) they could not assist and we would need to pay out of pocket for any repairs. Our window was not sealed or caulked properly, we can see that only one small section was done properly and the rest was not done. This absolutely atrocious and we cannot believe the lack of accountability to say they cant warranty as the vapour barrier was opened when the full window well is full of mould above it.

    New home

We built a new home with Excel homes and possession was in Jan 2023, which was supposed to be July-August 2022. We moved from Ontario trusting this builders. It's been 7 months we are in this house. Cupboard works completed after possession. Woods under countertop cabinet already fallen and repaired. The whole counter tops shake when we walk around, even things on the floor shakes while moving around. Just realized that my gas stove( one burner) also stopped functioning today. We are very disappointed with this company and expected a quality work from them. Definitely not recommended to anyone.

    Don't build with Excel

BUYER BEWARE every negative comment you read is SPOT ON. delays in replies, delays in fixes, more contractor visits than you can count. The quality and attention to detail in their work is nowhere to be found. All these replies from Excel are generic replies that dont even address the issues at hand and make it seem like they care, but.they.dont. Do yourself a favor and go with ANY other builder than Excel Homes. We moved in Nov 2021 and flagged issues to Excel immediately and are still trying to work on a resolution. I am asking for compensation/reduction in cost of our shower door replacement for the 500+ days delay in fixes, but they refuse as its not a "contractual obligation". Their perspective of making it right is to do what they should have done from day 1. But they expect the customer to pay 1700$ out of pocket, when it should have been on the mortgage to begin with. context: (if you got this far) Our frameless shower door should have been a 10mm width from day one but was never offered and now it wobbles and shakes every time we use it. Excel will either replace it with a framed shower door (not what we asked for) or have us pay 1700$ out of pocket. I am leaving this review b.c Excel is finally addressing it (1.5 years later) and their customer service has been a nightmare. We are also waiting for our tiles to be replaced since day 1. Again. DONT DO IT. DO NOT GO WITH EXCEL HOMES. Spend your HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS elsewhere

    Home building

Very disappointed. Weve been only in our Walden home built by Excel homes for more than 2years but part of the sidings of our house kept coming off every single year with a small wind blow. I was even told by their staff in the very first year again every time I contacted him for the sidings. Last week sidings came off again. I e-mailed excel homes customer care for almost a week now no respond. Will not recommend.

    Answer from pro:

Hello, we have been in contact with our Customer Care and Warranty team and they have notified us a work order has been received on Monday and on April 27, 2023 the exterior sidings has been repaired. Thank you for reaching out about your concerns.

Poor quality materials, bad after-sales services

We built our house in 2021 with Excel and had a good experience with them--up until after the turnover. The after-sales experience sucks big-time: they never contacted us for the 1-year inspection. We had to be the ones to bug them and they finally did the inspection on the 16th month. They sent a couple of guys over, but there's still some stuff that needs fixing, namely our paint chips and plumbing. The inspector Dave and the contractors were supposed to come on April 12 to fix stuff all at the same time, but the only one who showed up was the floor guy. Dave didn't show up and he can't even be contacted. We've left voice messages and emails, but all we got was an email reply from customer service that someone will get back to us. Yeah, that was 3 days ago. And no word from anyone. We are left with paint spots that haven't been fixed, marked with painter's tape all over the house. We can't even entertain because the house looks a mess. They ought to fix their after-sales experience or people will continue to complain. Looking at the reviews, I see similar complaints to mine. Get your act together, please.

    Stay away!

In April 2022, I took possession of my house, and 3 months later, in June 2022, Excel Homes finished the concrete work on my driveway. Unfortunately, during this process, they caused some damage which I have captured in the attached photo. At the time, they assured me that they would address this issue during their routine warranty visits that occur every few months. However, they never followed through on their promise, and now the cracks have spread to my garage floor. Despite my repeated requests for them to fix this issue, they have refused to take responsibility for the damage. They claim that this type of crack is not covered under the Alberta New Home Warranty Program because of its size. They have also stated that surface cracks are normal for concrete floors during the curing process. I find this hard to accept because this damage started last summer when they were adding concrete to my driveway. I am frustrated with Excel Homes and I dont recommend this company to anyone seeking for a reliable and trustworthy construction company.

Forget these guys, go get another builder.

Excel homes have a group of jokers on their payroll. They couldn't be bothered. The building took forever to be ready, yet lacked shelves and mirrors plus, the mechanical room in the basement was turning into a swimming pool, and they couldn't be bothered. I also got caught up badly with interest rate hikes. They show up late for scheduled appointments as though one has no use for their time. Terrible work culture, can't believe that folks like these still have jobs to go to.

Poor workmanship and bad customer service

Absolutely worst building experience. Poor workmanship and trade quality. The house was not ready on pre possession walk through like carpets not Installed, painting not done, appliances not installed. It's been over a month and still some issues are not solved. Also there are more issues coming everyday. No warranty department exists. The builder doesn't care about its customers. I will never ever buy or recommend from Excel Homes again.
