    Buyer beware

I wanted to share my horrendous experience with Action Furnace, related to a furnace repair that we had done about 10 months ago. Our furnace had quit unexpectedly, and even though it was May/June, I wanted to have it looked at. Action Furnace was the only company that could send someone out right away. The tech at the time diagnosed that either the circuit board or the blower motor was the issue, but that the heat exchanger was good, so the repair was worthwhile, as we should still get a few more years out of it (furnace was 22 yrs old). He ended up replacing the circuit board and then also the blower motor (!) as well. We also ended up having to replace the squirrel cage around the blower motor about 6 months later, as it was wobbling and very noisy. As the tech really struggled with the blower motor replacement initally, I thought it may have been a repair issue, but I was assured by the company that this was only a coincidence. Fast forward to this year. We had joined their furnace club last year, as there was a discount offered for repairs. I was planning to cancel this membership, as they are raising the price and halving the discount, but it was suggested to me that we should get our free furnace tuneup 1st before we cancelled. Another tech came over about 2 weeks ago to do the tuneup and notified us that he wasn't able to, due to the heat exchanger was cracked and the furnace was unsafe and should be replaced immediately. I was distraught at the thought of having to spend another large amount for a replacement when funds are really tight. Action did sent a sales guy to quote us for a new furnace. As it turned out, hus quote is $1900 more than the next highest quote I received (I've had 4 so far). I had a tech from another large furnace company over today to given their quote, and he checked the furnace for me and determined that the heat exchanger seems to be fine...I was shocked! Needless t say, after these experiences, I will stay away from Action Furnace, and hopefully my horrid dealings with them are not in vain. Caveat emptor!

    FURNACE SERVICE

The Action Furnace Servicemen were in my home for a tune-up of our 3 furnaces in January of this year. All 3 were tested prior to the tune-up. After being serviced only two of the furnaces worked. Diagnosis....fried control board, a coincidence. Repair cost quoted $1,040. Attempts to contact Action Furnace for some kind of explanation were ignored X 3. An alternate furnace service company was requested to offer a second opinion. They agreed the fault was with the control board. The repair cost was $748. I do believe the Action Furnace servicemen were competent. My concern was with being ignored when I called. The repair price differential is also interesting. A loss of trust is difficult to overcome.

    Furnace troubleshooting

My furnace was not working properly this morning. Although it seemed to to work for the rest of the day, Action Furnace had someone here by 3 pm to service it. Alex was knowledgeable and friendly and did a thorough inspection. Based on the diagnosis codes he recommended that I try a less restrictive air filter.

    Dishonest Practices

Called Action Furnace for an annual furnace inspection/clean. Technician arrived & said both heat exchangers were defective one had loose rivets and the other had a loose seal. He said there was a risk of a carbon monoxide leak & gave me 3 options, 1) do nothing, 2) replace heat exchanger ($3000) or 3) replace the furnace and offered to set up an appt for me to meet with a Comfort Advisor to discuss prices of a new furnace. I paid $140 for the inspection/clean & the invoice stated a full inspection had been completed, including the cleaning of the fire sensor. Heat exchanger defects were noted a fail at the rivets & there were some signs on the secondary heat exchanger that it was also starting to fail. There was no mention of a loose seal. I met with the Comfort Advisor & feeling stressed about potential health & safety risks &/or that the furnace could stop working, booked an installation for the very next day ($6200). Later I had second thoughts so cancelled the install and made arrangements for a second opinion. Imagine my surprise when the technician showed me that the furnace hadnt been cleaned at all, even the fire sensor! He confirmed the primary heat exchanger didnt have rivets, it had screws, so there could not be a fail at the rivets. Nothing was loose. As for the secondary heat exchanger, there was a loose seal on the panel, he repaired in 60 seconds by simply removing the screw, flattening out the seal, and putting the screw back on. There was no sign of anything starting to fail. The furnace is in top condition. I felt Id been completely taken advantage of by Action Furnace and given inaccurate information in the hopes Id purchase a new furnace. I was reimbursed $140, after 20 minutes talking to a Manager. Id have a hard time recommending Action Furnace to anyone looking for an honest and competent technician & find the wording on the website to be debatable Exceptionally Friendly, Well-Trained, & Highly-Skilled Technicians.

Installation of New Furnace, Air Conditioner and Humidifier

I just want to thank Action Furnace for great customer/sales service and the installation services that they provided. I had to replace my furnace (almost 21 years old) and decided to get an air conditioner and humidifier installed as well. I am grateful to everyone who helped me from the administration staff, sales staff and especially the to installers. The was completed in 2 days and all city inspections were approved. Thanks again for everything!!

    Product and Service

I would like to compliment James on his work that he does for your company. He is always friendly, professional and does his job very well. We have had James to our house for the furnace, air conditioner and hot water tank, all purchased at Atlas Furnace. Our last purchase was a hot water tank. Great work, James. Cheryl and Warren Rowley
