Installation of Basement New Basement Windows

We have just had two new "escapable" windows installed in our basement, one brand new, the other to replace an existing "unescapable" window. Johnston Glass did an excellent job, exactly when promised, in just two days, at the agreed price. No fuss, no muss, completely finished for painting. That's what we call reliability!

    Installation of two basement windows

We contacted Johnston glass after reading several great reviews of their business online. The reviews were more than accurate and we could not have been happier with their service. They were beyond professional, considerate, and reliable. In fact, they even worked over the weekend to get the windows in on-time despite freezing weather. We are thrilled with the final product and are even considering installing more, as the basement has never looked better!

    Basement window replacement

My house required a larger basement window in order to meet code for a downstairs bedroom. I selected Johnston Glass to do the job, and I was extremely satisfied with the entire process. The office manager is very friendly, knowledgable and service oriented, and the work happened in exactly the way they told me it would with no surprises. The end product is very high quality and has transformed the room so it not only meets the building code, but is a much more pleasant room. I highly recommend Johnston Glass.

    Basemnt Windows

Johnston Glass did a great job of installing a Basement window in a new location and replacing an old window with a new (up to code) larger window. Erin was great to deal with and all the staff were very good at what they do. We are very happy with the job they did for us.

    Replacement/Enlarging of Basement Windows

The quality of our window enlargement/installation is great and they look really good. The installers and Erin were also friendly. We are very happy with the finished project, however, their were some disappointing aspects to their service. On the day the installers cut and cored the new windows, it was raining, so our shed became covered in mud from the water they used in the process - but no attempt to clean this up was made. Also, there was a good amount of mud and debris left on the inside the basement woindows and on the walls after the windows were cored and this was not cleaned up. As well, our window installation had to be rescheduled to a Sunday, and we were told the installers would be over between 8:30 and 9:30 am. They did not arrive until approximately 12:30 pm. In spite of this, because the work was well done, we asked for a quote to have some of the windows on the main floor of our house replaced. The installer did not follow up with us to give us the quote. I also called the office to follow up on the quote and my call was not returned. Overall, I'm happy with the quality of work, but not very pleased with the clean up during the job or the follow up customer service.

    Basement window replacement

We needed two basement windows replaced. Trent at Johnston Glass came up with an innovative solution that cost far less and was much less obtrusive than the approach other companies suggested. The work was done professionally on time, with excellent cleanup and no surprises. The entire experience was great. I would not hesitate to contact Johnston for other projects.

    Basement window and concrete cuttng

Before contacting Johnston I did research on the code requirements, window pricing and of course concrete cutting. I was prepared to do the job myself, even finding a concrete chainsaw to rent. Being a regular guy, I was looking forward to the chainsaw, I mean how much fun does that sound. It cuts CONCRETE, wow. Anyway, cooler heads prevailed (read wife) and several points were to be considered. Time, weather, equipment, price, experience and price (I know it is in twice but it's important). I contacted Erin at Johnston and she was great. Got a price on the phone (excluding taxes) and several dates that an estimate could be done. After spending the night trying to get the chainsaw option in, it was decided to call and book with Johnston. I called Erinn again, and talked about the window size, the options for install and when they could come for the survey/estimate. We decided to book the site survey for the next day. After giving Erin my address, she asked what part of the city my address was, I told her I don't live in Calgary, I'm in Airdrie. Oops, there is a $100 charge to go outside the city. No problem, I did not mention this and the price is great even at $1700. A couple of hours later Erin called to say Trent was in the north part of Calgary and could come out in an hour to have a look. Sounded good to me so we booked. Trent showed at the time mentioned and checked, measured and re-measured inside and out. We had a larger opening than normal, 50" wide, the windows are 48". This would require extra work and materials to make the opening smaller. To be honest, all I seen were dollar signs floating out of my pocket, but Trent said the magic words "at no extra cost". Nice. A couple of hours later Erin called with the official estimate and payment terms. $500 down and the rest at the end of the job. We booked them to start 2 days later. The day before they were due to arrive, Erin called to ask if we would take a 'used' window, full warranty, no scratches etc. Just used for a day then removed. They gave us $50 off the bill. First was the gas line locate by Alberta First Call, then the cutters showed up next day (early even. Go figure). They dug out the window well by hand, not easy in March at -7C, cut the hole and boarded it up. The next day the window installer showed up early again (wow), put in the window, window well and the gravel. Cleaned up the site and the job was done. The window looks great, the install is professionally done, site is cleaner that it was before and a full year of warranty on labour and install and 5 years on the window. I would recommend Johnston without any reservation. Price is great for all the work they do, specifically the digging of the window well (all by hand because of the gas line - NO EXTRA COST). There is still one window left. Maybe I can use that chainsaw yet...

    basement window replacement

Found this company very helpful in making suggestions, discussing then providing a replacement window in a basement that would comply with building code yet fit in with what I wanted... Concrete opening cut, window delivered, window installed as timetabled and at price quoted. Very smooth trouble-free experience.
