Very Satisfied with our new roof

I chose TCE from these HomeStars reviews, they are the only company I even spoke to. I believe in paying for quality work and these reviews attested to that, as also ultimately did my experience with TCE. I am very pleased with their service, and would highly recommend them. The 'fly-by-night'-ers may be a few hundred $ cheaper, but it will show in their workmanship. If you are flipping a house, I guess you don't care about longevity anyway...but, if you are investing longterm into your home...then The Cutting Edge is your only logical choice for a quality roofing job. Our 'plan' is to stay in this house until our young kids finish school and move on...~ 20yrs from now. I did not want to have to deal with re-roofing just before sale, so I chose to have a '50yr' roof installed. (Robert ensured our invoice was very detailed and clearly indicated the longevity upgrades...as I intend to produce this invoice for any future buyers) I won't bother repeating the details of the work execution, like all the other reviews... It's all true, they do great work, take & send pics, and clean up well. I will, however, explain how I gave Robert ample opportunity to fleece me...yet, he did not...even arguing against my more expensive wishes: - 1st contact was my email, in April-ish?: requesting new roofing, ridge venting and 2 'properly installed' (as opposed to the despicable builder's method) bathroom fan exhaust roof vents...and how much would he like for a deposit? - during his 1st initial visit, he left a detailed quote. Next day I called him, confirming I wanted to upgrade to the 50yr shingles. (it's an extra $7~800 versus the 30yr...it's a no brainer!) Then I told him that I wanted my 'entire' roofing (not just 6 feet up from the edge) covered with the Ice&Water shield rubber membrane type stuff, instead of the high quality synthetic 'paper' (cheaper roofers just use plain old tar paper). He suggested this was ridiculous overkill for my particular roof and not worth the extra $6~700 it would cost me. I insisted, explaining my desire for a seriously long-term roof. He eventually gave in....(this was the 1st 'fleecing' opportunity). - next next day, I called him again, asking about the small flat roofs I have above my porch and garage end. They were not clearly described in the quote (and confirmed not considered) as I had not originally asked for them. My bad, I did not realize I needed to be that specific...so I asked him to include them in the work...and how much/when did he want his deposit, again? - that day he made a 2nd visit to go up and inspect the small flat roofs. He then called me and 'flat out' (-; told me that they were fine and should not need work for many years. I suggested "while you're at it anyway..." His concern was the cost involved in working these flat roofs, which he felt were in great shape. Due to the long labour in dealing with all the siding, flashing, railings, etc...it was going to cost me an extra ~ $2000, and he felt it just wasn't necessary at this time. At this point I graciously thanked him for his time and agreed that the flat roofs can wait. (fleecing opportunity #2) Oh, how much/when did he want that deposit again? - we had a few more phone calls and detailed email conversations over the time it took for work execution. My roof was not in dire need and I made it clear I was in no rush...about that deposit?...amount? when? - Initial schedule was for mid-June, but at my request, we settled on mid-July...as we would be away on vacation. (would you do the same with 'fly by night'-ers?) Although I had never personally met Robert, there was no question as to his integrity...given my conversations above. I had no concerns about his, or his crew's, work ethics...as has already been clearly described by many other reviewers here. Besides...through months of quoting, re-quouting, color pick visits and such...he never accepted my insistence on giving him a deposit. Now, this may not be a standard practice of his...as my wife 'did' sign the finalized quote, back in April...nonetheless, would a 'fly by night'-er be willing to schedule his crew, buy and install all the materials...at risk of not getting paid and having to go 'legal'? No way. They would demand a deposit, likely delay the install date and demand payment the day they finally showed up...they'd rather you suffer the 'wondering'... Funny story (not really)...regarding payment: once we got back home, we got an invoice in the mail. I bought a bank draft and pestered Robert enough to finally come get it a few days later...as I finally wanted to meet him and shake his hand. You can imagine my 'surprise' when I opened my RBC envelope and the bank draft wasn't there. Robert was sympathetic to my rising panic (I showed him my copy of the draft, I desperately didn't want him to think me a trickster...a fool is fine though) and then he calmly suggested we try again another night... (an hour later, garbage strewn across the garage floor...I found the original...ripped up with a bunch of bills, etc.) A few days later...Robert did finally get paid for the excellent work his company did. If you value your home, when it's time...hire The Cutting Edge. I assure you will be satisfied with what you paid for...a rare thing these days.

    New mansard roof

I would highly recommend Cutting Edge if you are considering replacing your roof. I was provided with a detailed quote based on a thorough examination of my roof (including pictures!) and a detailed explanation of the work to be done. The crew did a great job of protecting our many garden beds and cleaning up when finished. They were a great team to deal with. I was also provided with many pictures of the work as it was in progress and of the finished job. Most important - the roof looks great!

New Roof, New Vents, New Metal Flashing; Owens Corning Duration Shingles

Robert was by far the best person we dealt with when we were researching roofers. He came to our home and was the only one that got up on the roof and actually inspected the shingles (with pictures). Jimmy and his crew came in and quickly removed our shingles and installed the new Owens Corning shingles, replaced the vents, installed the new metal flashings, and even replaced a few pieces of the plywood. They were exceptional, they were quick, and cleaned up the entire area before they left the site. Jimmy was also nice enough to take pictures throughout the project and email them to me before the day was over. It is very nice to see what is being done via pictures. Overall, the quality of work was amazing, and dealing with the TCE crew was exceptional. In comparison to other roofers, they are a bit more expensive, but after doing our research, we understood why, and it is true, you do pay for what you get. Robert was also nice enough to explain the differences between the shingle manufactures, and was also able to do our roof above the garage at a minimal cost to us, as neither of us wanted miss-matching colours. Robert was also kind enough to educate us with the different types of shingles, came to our home on three different occasions to show us samples, and provide the warranty information, and not to mention was able to move us up the queue from end of August to early July. Overall, I would highly recommend Robert and The Cutting Edge to anyone considering them, as you will not be disappointed! Thanks Robert, Jimmy and TCE crew!

Replace all shingles, add vents and renew metal flashings around chimney

I cannot recommend this company highly enough. From the moment we made contact with Tracey, to the consultation with Robert and the excellent job by Jimmy and his crew, I have only high praise. We were initially provided with detailed photos of the state of our old roof which was just as bad as we suspected and during the job the crew photographed each step of the job, which we ultimately received by email. There was an unexpected surprise when the crew found old cedar shingles below the shingles that were to be replaced. We were immediately informed of this and although it meant extra labour and therefore extra cost, Robert immediately offered to meet us half way on this as it was unforeseen and not part of the original quote. Jimmy and his crew did an impeccable job of the cleanup too. We are extremely happy with price, professionalism and quality and would recommend this company to anyone.

    New shingles

We have a 100 year old semi in downtown Toronto, which meant four layers and 100 years worth of shingles had to be removed before the new ones could be put on. Cutting Edge owner Robert gave us a fair quote and was responisive and great to work with. The team he sent was led by Jimmy and they did a great job. Very thorough, very professional. Our roof not only looks great but they went the extra mile in terms of using metal flashing where necessary and using excellent materials. Highly recommend their services.

Robert's estimate was right on. The crew showed up on time and proceeded taking the old shingles off and demolishing an old chimney , the whole job went smoothly and loks good. I'd recommend this company to anyone that wants to deal with professionals!

    Installation of New Roof

After reading the reviews on HomeStars, we contacted several roofing companies and obtained 4 quotes. Robert was 1 of 2 companies that actually went onto our roof, before providing us with an estimate. Robert clearly explained the estimate to us, patiently answered all the questions and provided clarification on any points that we were uncertain about. Compared to the other companies, his price was very competitive for a similar service and products used. On the day of installation, Jimmy and his crew were professional, tidy, efficient and considerate of our property. Without hesitation, we would highly recommend The Cutting Edge Roofing for anyone who needs a new roof installed.

    North York

I am so happy with Robert's services since he explained all the work to be done. Robert actually went up the roof to check on the problem, unlike all the others who just kept on measuring the size of the roof without understanding the problem. Robert was very professional and I would not hesitate in recommending him to others. The technicians were experienced and thorough in their work. They kept the surroundings clean after the job. Good work guys and thank you!

Roofing of entire house and garage

Robert and his crew got us in the cue much earlier than anticipated. They did a great job including clean-up, and follow up! He took lots of pictures and explained everything about the project, and came in at a reasonable price!
