    Installation of Backwater Valve

Installation did not pass inspection and had to be redone. After being redone, they concreted around clean out valve (not safe) and after 3 days of waiting did not show up to repair damage. Awful customer service.

    Answer from pro:

TRADES BEWARE!!! We provided stellar customer service to this customer and all we got in return was vicious and unbridled harassment. This customer called us about having a backwater valve installed in her basement. We arrived on site, provided a Free Estimate, and the customer agreed to proceed with the work. Everything went smoothly, and the job was inspected and PASSED by the City of Toronto. This was not good enough for the customer, as she refused to pay the balance, and proceed to harass us to fix problems that were completely unrelated to our backwater valve installation. In order to satisfy her and provide stellar customer service, we returned THREE TIMES to assess the situation, and every time the visits were frivolous. Despite our efforts to make this customer happy, she relentlessly called our office a total of 18 times only ceasing when the Owner of the company threatened to call the police with regards to her incessant harassment. We lost money on this job to try and make this customer happy, and all we were met with was anger and resentment. ROOTER-MAN MANAGEMENT

    Replace Defective Basement Sewer Line

Al-Orfali & Baldawi, Mississauga: We had problems with our basement sewr lines being clogged all the time. Called Rooterman and within 2hrs got the quote and signed the contract on October 24. Job started on the same day and was completed within 2-days. The guys were very helpful, truthful and explained how the job would be done not to mention their punctuality. Thanks to Rooterman's Ryan & Steve and especially to Jay & lobsang who did a wonderful job.

    Answer from pro:

Thank you for your kind words Al-Orfali. We especially appreciate your words about Jay and Lop-Singh as they have the most difficult job of all (excavating), and it is nice to see them recognized in this fashion. Rooter-Man Management

    Plumbing

We hired this company to fix some serious structural plumbing issues in our rental house. Not only were they not able to fix the problem, they did not show up to the follow up appointment that was essential to finishing the job. They also charged an obscene labour cost for doing virtually nothing.

    Answer from pro:

Wrong company. We have never heard of this job or this customer. Rooter-Man Management

    Clogged Drain

Please stay away from this company. I had just moved into my new home and had a sewage back up due to a clogged drain. I phoned this company because of their reviews this site and their free estimate policy. When the technician showed up he told me that he had to do a video inspection and that there was no free estimate, after the video inspection he told me that the clay pipes outside my house had collapsed and that they needed to be replaced. He required do dig up my front yard and install a valve, which he said he could have done the next day. The estimate was $5000. Luckily my dad came to visit that night, and was surprised that the "plumber" had not tried to snake the "trap" port located outside the house. He simply used a garden hose to remove the blockage and we have not had a problem since. This company proceeds to charge me $500 dollars for their assessment. The claim that they had inspected, SNAKED and that they had to get a building permit to proceed with the work. I know they inspected, but had he proceeded to snake the drains, he would have fixed the problem. I would like to think that this company's technician are not properly trained for house calls as I would assume they would try a simple solution before charging $5000 for unnecessary work, because the next likely scenario is that they are running a game to charge unsupecting customers for work that is not required. Please stay away from this company, I tried unsuccessfully to speak to a manager for 3 weeks; when I finally did he promised to reimburse $150 for the work they did not complete. I waited another week and filed a dispute with my credit card company for the amount charged. The credit card company said that because I signed the agreement, that there is nothing I can do. What a nightmare.

    Answer from pro:

These allegations are untrue. We arrived on-site, diagnosed the problem, provided a Free Estimate, and completed the work to the customer's satisfaction. It is only after the completion of the work that the customer started hurling fake allegations against us in order to get out of paying his bill. Rooter-Man did the job correctly. Shower stall drain replacement

We had a stand up shower drain that was leaking and needed to be installed. First plumber (foreshadowing) from Rooter-Man came by and gave a quote and returned later to do the install. We tested the shower and no leaking, at that time. Only minor issue - we have an old house and the access to the drain pipe is in a very difficult location under the second floor bathroom, so he had to "cut" a hole in the ceiling on the 1st floor. He ended up hammering and left a pretty ugly hole that would be hard to patch up. After a few days the drain began to leak. We asked the first plumber to come back and check. He didn't find any leaking until we ran the water for a few minutes. We questioned him on why it was leaking and basically he said we shouldn't be pouring such a large amount of water down the drain and that this type of drain was not correct. We disagreed with him and he left on unamicable terms. He had done some repairs but it was leaking again immediately after - probably even worse. We called Rooter-Man for another plumber to come back and check the leak. The dispatch lady was polite and sent another plumber. The second plumber was very courteous and checked on the drain. He added some missing caulking and asked that we let it dry for 4 hours. We let it dry for over a day and started to use the shower but again it started to leak. We called back and the 2nd plumber came back and dried the drain again and applied more caulking. We let it dry for over 3 days before we used the shower but no change, it started to leak after a few showers. Now I called to speak to the manager but the dispatch lady asked if we'd be willing to have one of their more senior plumbers come out and have a look. The third plumber arrived and he seemed quite knowledgeable. He took a thorough look at the drain and the plumbing underneath it. He said that it would require 2 people to have it done properly but they would remove the drain and put in another one. It took a few cancelled appointments from Rooter-Man but eventually another plumber - new plumber #4 and the 2nd plumber arrived and re-did the installation. That was a few weeks ago and it hasn't leaked since. Rooter-man didn't charge us extra to make it right but there are a few lessons learned here. 1. A stand-up shower drain is a tricky job that needs to be done by an experienced plumber, otherwise it will leak. 2. Be prepared to work alot from home - Rooter-man isn't very good with times - they missed alot of appointments and sometimes without giving us notification. 3. If the job isn't done properly, Rooter-man will honor their warranty and get it fixed. Would we use them again? Well...This took about a month's time and 4 plumbers to be resolved. Probably not, but if we had to though, we would ask for a more experienced senior plumber.

    Answer from pro:

This customer was bathing her children in the base of the shower, and, as a result, the water was splashing out and collecting around the outside of the shower base. We explained to the customer that a shower is not intended to function as a bathtub. We repaired the job correctly the first time, but the customer’s constant bathing of her children in the base of the shower is what caused the leak. The facts are straightforward 1) Rooter-Man arrived on-site and fixed the problem; 2) Rooter-Man returned on four different occasions to rectify the situation that was caused by the customer ignoring our instructions regarding the bathing of her children. At the end of the day, Rooter-Man went above and beyond to honor our service agreement with this particular customer. ROOTER-MAN MANAGEMENT

    Kitchen sinks drains blocked

The drains were completely blocked, down the pipes, down to the basement pipes and down the pipes going through the ground. Steven was very courteous and understanding. He used the electric wire through the kitchen pipes and when this did not work, did the same thing through the basement pipes. Tried very hard so as not to use the Hydraulic power flush that would cost a lot. The drain are now clear and he recommended that I use once a month a Bio-Clear product to keep the pipes clean. Very satisfied with the work done and would recommended this company for your plumbing needs.

    Drain Excavation

I have a rental property in Toronto and my tenants called me at 12:30 am on Wednesday January 2nd and informed me that there was sewage backing up in the basement of the home. I called Rooter-Man, and had them send out a plumber. I drove in from Brantford, and met the plumber Steve on site with my tenants. Steve was really knowledgeable and walked me through the process. He identified the problem as being a blockage in the drain pipe, and showed me the blockage on the camera. He then snaked the drain enough so that the plumbing in the house would work until the morning. He booked an excavation crew to come out the next day and begin the job. They completed the job in a day, and, although I had to leave, my tenants told me that the crew was very neat and tidy. Great job, and excellent response time. Would definitely recommend. Maggie B.
