***This is a lengthy read, but after seeing all of the other poor reviews, it's worth it, even for the entertainment value.***
Let's start with the sales representative, who of course, was somehow able to be at my home within 2 hours of my current water tank failing. He quickly upsold (rental) me on a tankless heater and a water softener. He made it crystal clear, that within 10 days, if I am not satisfied with either, I have the ability to cancel, free of charge. This is not the case when I had cancelled the softener within 3 days, I had to pay a fee. Fine, though the sales rep essentially stated incorrect information in order to obtain the sale, it should have been my responsibility to read the fine print, which is heavily in favour of Reliance, naturally.
The real issue is the quality my home was left in post-tankless heater installation. It appears the subcontractors (who I don't even believe hold their pipefitters certification) had core-drilled the vent hole from the basement to the exterior of my home. In doing so, they decided to use sprayfoam which is not standard industry practice as this will eventually decay and water will seep through. In doing so, their spray foam can had exploded all over the side of my home AND my neighbours home (see photos) along with some damage to the siding. They did not mention anything until my wife had gone out and inspected in which they had already packed up and left.
This is where things get interesting; we immediately notify Reliance of the mishap and kindly requested the contractor return to remove the spray foam from the can explosion from my home, my neighbours home, and the vent opening. They had returned a few days later and once again, decided to place silicone, similarly to spray foam, will not endure our Canadian weather - this is even after I explicitly mentioned to Reliance they needed to place polyurethane. I was then advised that it was MY responsibility to gather a quotation to remove the spray foam, fix the siding and place the corrective waterproofing material around the vent pipe because Reliance had no contacts and was unable to procure their own quotation (strange, isn't it?). As I didn't have much choice in the matter, I called contractors on my own time to gather a quote to have my home in the condition it was prior to Reliance's negligence in selecting unqualified personnel to carryout their work. I provided the quote after about a week or so and had asked for a path forward. I was then told by Reliance that the quote was rejected because it was more than they suspected ($~4500). I was then told that they somehow had a contractor who would like to visit my home and provide a quotation. At this point, I had no confidence in Reliance's subcontractors and politely declined in which I was told I needed to provide a SECOND quotation. Again, as I didn't have much of a choice, I obliged. This time the price was around the $5000.00 mark. Today, I received a response essentially stating the quotation was fabricated due to a few spelling errors and that I had to provide a THIRD quotation. For the record to all reading, both quotations provided were actual business's with HST numbers. Further, it was never mentioned that I had to provide multiple quotes, again, for something Reliance had caused. I now realized that Reliance has no intention in repairing my home and I'm now stuck with a disgruntled neighbour and spray foam all over the side of my home.
I URGE Canadians, especially in difficult times such as these with rising inflation and interest rates, Reliance does not care about you as a client, homeowner, or human being. They are interested in your signature on a contract and your credit card details to add to their $500M in revenue (est.) annually. Please take my experience as a lesson learnt and either explore other options for your heating and cooling needs, such as other competitors or purchasing the equipment out-right. We all work hard and our hard earned dollars should not go to business's such as Reliance.
