Emergency Furnace Repair
I had a Reliance technician come out to look at my furnace that stopped working on the coldest day of the year (-25). Tech showed up, spent about 5 minutes looking at the furnace and told me the motor was dead and there is nothing he could do. He told me he checked on the Carrier website and it was no longer under warranty and that I shouldn't fix it but rather just buy a new one because its not worth it. Conveniently, he could have a sales rep out to my house within a few hours. Sales rep showed up and obviously tried to capitalize on a bad situation telling me if I bought now, he could have it installed the next day.
Thankfully, I was able to get a hold of the contractor who originally installed the furnace before making a decision on buying a new furnace. They sent one of their techs over that night who was able to get the furnace motor running again by simply lubricating it! This was totally unethical and reflects very badly on Reliance.
