New 100 amp service, meter base, ground system, panel and circuit breakers

Our new dryer kept blowing fuses. I found Captain Electric in the yellow pages and then remembered Homestars and checked out the reviews for Captain Electric. When I called, Brian, the owner was very pleasant and helpful on the phone. He suggested that I call Samsung to make sure that the problem was with our electrical system and not the dryer itself. After calling Samsung and discussing the situation with them, I felt that the problem was with our electrical system and called Brian back. A little while later Dave, the electrician arrived. He was very professional and took the time to show me his credentials and explain the 100% satisfaction guarantees that are given by Captain Electric. After checking our fuse panel, he recommended that the fuse panel and service equipment be replaced due to aging. The day the work was to be done, Dave and Dan showed up on time and were courteous and professional in completing the work. They wore protective shoe covers and did a thorough clean up after the job was complete. Nice guys, too - they even brought me back a coffee when they went out to get some for themselves. I would definitely use Captain Electric again in the future and would recommend them to others.

Removed Amateur Installed Outlet, Trace Wiring of Dedicated Circuit to Plug Fridge Into

I received an electric shock on two separate occasions from the Fridge when I touched both the Fridge and another item eg: while touching the counter beside the sink, or the stove handle. If I touched only the fridge I did not receive a shock. I called two separate appliance repair places and each told me that the Fridge itself was probably not the problem, because to receive the shock I had to be touching two things. I looked for an electrician on Homestars and found Captain Electric are a local electrical contractor so I called them and they made an appt for 2 days later. Dave and Kevin arrived 1 1/2 hours early from the time I'd been given after I received a phone call from their office telling me they were on their way. They were very professional, showed me a binder with information about each of them, their company, their qualifications, the fact they were ESA certified and that Dave was a Master Electrician. After I described the problem, they gave me a quote before starting work, after asking me what I wanted included today, and stuck to that quote.

Initially they ran a tester between the Fridge and the counter beside the sink, and again between the Fridge and the Stove. They found that there was 115Volts being sent between these items when tested. After pulling out the Fridge they did indeed find that it was not the Fridge that had a problem, but the electric outlet the Fridge was plugged into had been installed by an amateur and was unsafe. They traced the wiring from the other available outlet behind the fridge to the breaker panel, to make sure it was on a dedicated circuit, then removed and sealed off the unsafe outlet. They wore booties in my house to protect my floors and after completing the job, made some recommendations about the light fixtures in the basement.

I was thoroughly impressed with Dave and Kevin, their knowledge and the professionalism they showed, as well as Captain Electric and have nothing but good things to say about them. I will use them again and recommend them to anyone who asks if I know a good electrical contractor. I found the price a little high, but I did receive a Seniors Discount from them.

$525.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
nothing I can think of
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Captain Electric, is a very competent electrical contractor, who also inform you of the latest safety and fire protection laws in the Province of Ontario. They have an A+ rating with the BBB and carry WSIB on their employees. This is important to know before you allow an electrical contractor in your house.

Ceiling fan installation

After trying to set up an appointment for a recommended electrician to come and provide an estimate for the installation of 3 ceiling fans, and having each one not follow up, I picked this company from the Yellow Pages (forgot about Homestars - dumb). Enrico called the next day and gave me a very professional presentation. He and Kevin arrived on time on the appointed day and worked without break until the job was finished. Both were friendly, respectful of our home (wore covers over their shoes, used drop cloths where appropriate), and did an excellent job. All wiring was hidden - no conduits running up the wall or across the ceiling.
While I felt the price was high (about 40-50% more than the other guys' ball-parks, I was impressed enough to have them come back after our vacation to replace our fuse box with a breaker system (price about $3400) and again received a very friendly and professional service.
Both prices are 'bottom line' and include a senior's discount and all taxes.

$1,500.00

Thanks for your review. We appreciate your comments and that you were impressed enough to have us back for further work. Operating a successful Service Company can be challenging. Respecting our client's time by keeping appointments is a foundation of our company. We work very hard to keep appointments and arrive within a 2 hour time frame. We look forward to being of service to you in the future. [I apologize for the delay in responding to your review, this is an area that I am now working on improving]. Thank you again for choosing Captain Electric.

Electrical service - kitchen switchplate

Very professional service, very upfront on what is offered, I just wanted the switch fixed, but electrician Dave ensured other factors considered. Expensive propositions these electricians, but it is unavoidable, didn't do much cost comparisons.

Installing electrical (lights, plugs) to basement being finished

Wanted to do a proper electrical installation to the basement I was finishing. Very professional, great advice (esp on the # of light fixtures that would be ideal), done w/ proper permits. Took a little longer than I thought (a couple of days to do the righing in of wiring), but felt comfortable w/ them. Not cheap, but I wasn't expecting a proper, permitted job w/ a licensed contractor to be so.

$6,000.00

Electrical Services

I have called Captain Electric twice now into my home and I have to make a point of this; Dave (electrician) is a real pro and an absolute pleasure to deal with. There are many other electricans on staff who have been complimented by other clientele (online reviews) but I'm obviously starting this review in a biased state. Oh well, here goes!

Being a Durham, Ontario resident there are many electrical companies I could have called, but a simple Google search made my decision that much easier. (And Brian who answered my phone call at Captain Electric!)

When I called to have RG6 cable run through my basement to an LCD television, options seemed bleak due to the duct work and structure of my finished basement. But Dave persisted and was able to manage a run from the T.V. to the incoming coaxial cable line without breaking a sweat.

A more important point I'd like to make is that before Dave started his work on the first occasion to my home, he took the time to explain thoroughly, the expectations his company has of him (code of conduct), the services they offer, a printed copy of his license to operate within the province of Ontario among other various documentation attesting and relating to the nature of Captain Electrics modus operandi. The professionalism, coupled with the sincere and focused approach to customer service and high quality of work mimics that of a great piece of artwork that stands the test of time. I encourage you the reader, to compare/contrast the differences between electrical firms in the G.T.A., but will offer this much; Captain Electric is a wonderful business to deal with in my personal opinion and will continue to speak volumes of their company to friends and family in need of their services.

Thank you "Super" Dave and Captain Electric!

Thank you "SunWorshipper" for such a nice review. (my sincere apology for not responding much sooner - I am new with this technology and forum, and will be responding much sooner to all client reviews on Homestars, now that I know how this all works). "Super Dave" (he gets that a lot) is definitely a "keeper" (and so are our other electricians and apprentices and office staff too!). We truly do appreciate your kind comments and comparison to a great piece of artwork. Thank you for choosing Captain Electric, and we do look forward to being of service again in the future.

Electrical outlets not functioning

we had this peculiar problem where all the bedroom electrical outlets stopped working although the light switches were working. I tried everything from restting the CGFI circuits to turning on and off the master power switch. Nothing worked.

I called the Captain electric to have someone drop by and take a look.
A nice gentleman by name "Enrico" offered to walk me on the phone and get this problem taken care off before coming over in person.

He went through a checklist over the phone and got to the root of the problem in a jiffy. presto! all the outlets started working. The solution was simple but could have been expensive. The cost for me was Zero.

Thanks very much and i would very likely use them for any future electrical issues with no hesitation.

cheers

Ray, my sincere apologies for not writing a reply (it has been almost 1 year, and being of an older generation I am new to social media).

Home electrical services

Approximately 1 week ago, the ceiling fan in our bathroom quit. Based on a previous positive experience with Captain Electric, I requested their help again. The electrician (Dave) who came to the house was extremely professional, polite and customer centric. He removed the (very) old fan and sourced a same-size replacement for it within 2 days. Dave also took the time to provide advice on a kitchen renovation that we're contemplating. I would heartily recommend this company to anyone.
