If you are ever in a jam and you don’t know who to trust, trust these guys

On Saturday evening, just before dinner, a massive branch from one ot the large trees on our street crashed to the ground without warning, taking out the power lines for both my and my neighbors houses. As we surveyed the damage the first priority was calling Toronto Hydro to take care of the live wires. When the crew showed up, they cut the lines and told us that the mast (that’s the thing going from the meter on the house to where the line attached from the street ) was our responsibility and we need to get “our electrician” to fix it at our own expense. I looked at my neighbor and said, ‘I don’t have an electrician, do you?’ He shrugged as both of us stared at the tangled mess of downed power lines, branches, leaves and broken conduit. So, I went on a search for electricians and the only one that took my call was Belyea Brothers Electric. Chris and I spoke about getting a crew out to fix it and said he would try to get them out that night. I was surprised but hesitant as I didn’t expect them to respond so quickly. I thought to myself the earliest likely would be Monday morning and by that time I’d have to throw out all the food in the fridge. At least it wasn’t winter… Imagine my surprise when an hour later Anson and Tony showed up and started right in on making repairs! In addition to being very thorough, they were also extremely friendly explaining what they were doing and even taking care of making the call so that Toronto Hydro could dispatch a crew to connect both houses back to the grid. They stayed until 1:30 AM to make sure it got fixed! When the Hydro crew connected up the power at 4 AM I was so glad I made the call to Belyea Brothers as what could have been a mess of spoiled food turned into a great Fathers Day! Thanks again to Chris, Anson and Tony. I’d highly recommend them for any electrical work!

Hi Jefferey, There is never a good time to have a tree fall on electrical lines but it always seems to happen in the middle of the night or on a weekend. It can be a frightening ordeal with no power and no idea when it will come back. We are so happy that we could assist you and your neighbour to get the power back on in quick order. This is a good reminder for everyone to stay back a minimum of 10 meters from downed electrical lines but I’m happy we were able to get you and your neighbour back up with power in a very quick turnout just in time to enjoy Father’s Day! Thank you very much Jeffrey. Chris Umphrey Electrical Manager

New furnace, AC and tankless water heater

The team just finished the job and I am very pleased. Everyone I dealt with at Belyea was professional and friendly. Everything was done exactly as I asked and I could tell the installers cared about doing quality work. They kept the house clean too. Wasn't the lowest quote for the job but I have zero worry about the work and I think that peace of mind is worth it!

    New boiler and radiators

It was time to replace our old oil boiler - it was inefficient, dirty and our insurance company was after us to replace the oil tank. We called Belyea on the recommendation of my brother in law who is a heating and cooling professional. In a couple days Jameson dropped by and reviewed our needs and explained the options available to my wife and me. Belyea came out few weeks later and installed a new gas fired boiler in our home. Paul, Shawn and Mike were very professional and nice people. The installation went without a hitch and it works great. The new boiler is quiet, clean and MUCH more efficient. Thanks guys for an easy experience updating our heating system. We really appreciate your professionalism.

    Hot water tank repair fail

My hot water tank wouldn't light, so I called Belyea brothers based on their stellar reviews. Scheduling and service was painless, and the technician showed up on time. The technician couldn't get the boiler to work after doing all the checks, and recommended to replace the entire boiler. Called another company to get a second opinion, and the technician got my tank working in 40 minutes. Pretty disappointed with Belyea brothers to say the least. Gave them 1 star because their service is decent, and the technician---despite not being able to fix the problem---was polite.

    Answer from pro:

Good day, We appreciate your comments regarding our scheduling and service. We take a lot of pride in our Service Department. When our technician arrived, he found several issues with your hot water tank. He diagnosed a faulty gas valve, thermopile and pressure relief valve. More importantly, he noted a significant amount of rust and corrosion built up at the top of the tank. When our clients call us for service, they expect us to advise them on the best course of action, whether it is a repair or a recommendation to replace their system. As a homeowner, you are always entitled to a second opinion. However, our long-term solution is to ensure your tenants have a properly working unit, not simply charge you for a band-aid fix. A quick fix is not always the best option.

    Solid full-service company, knowledgeable technicians

I called Belyea Bros originally when my boiler died on Christmas day. My heating system is not a simple one either, as it three floors of in-floor radiant heat and had been installed with six zones. I needed a company that was working through holidays and weekends and Belyea not only showed up to do the work, they also provided expertise in how to best replace and improve on my system. Since then, I have engaged them to provide annual service for my heating and AC systems.

    Answer from pro:

Hello BSD, THANK YOU for this great review! Having your system give out on Christmas day is not much of a gift but I'm happy that we were able to help you during the Christmas period. See you soon for your annual servicing on your AC. - Belyea Bros Limited

    repairing hot water heater

Our water heater was broken. We told them what part we needed over the phone. They came with no parts at a charge of $146. They came back with the wrong part the next day. They went away and ordered the right part ( the one we had requested in the first place.) They came back the next day with a part that costs $68 on line and charged us $225 for the part and $632 to install it. A new water heater is not much more than this. We were without hot water for 3 days. This seems like a lot of money and because they goofed on the part order, we thought they might have discounted us the price of the first visit, especially as they could have brought the part with them the first time. Although we have been pleased with them in the past, we will never call them again.

    Answer from pro:

We recognize that getting a service issue resolved can sometimes be frustrating especially when a piece of equipment is not functioning. It is, however, necessary for us to follow a consistent process (sometimes this is a process of eliminating possible causes of an issue), and then also follow a manufacturer’s diagnostic process. First we charge a diagnostic fee of $130 + hst in order to see a piece of equipment and perform a diagnostic. In this case the manufacturer of the tankless unit, Navien, instructed us to replace a specific part which turned out not to be cause of the unit failure. Having eliminated this part as the issue, the part necessary to resolve the issue was shipped and replaced.
