    Basement Renovation

Planit Builders was fantastic to deal with right from the beginning. The initial quote meeting with Shelley Foss absolutely convinced us that Planit was the company to go with to get our basement finished. Shelley made sure to go through everything with is very clearly and show us that Planit would be able to do our project professionally, with the best trades people and at an affordable cost. Shelley came well prepared with everything we needed to know about Planit Builders. From there the process was quick as we received calls from all the necessary people to get things started. As the project moved along we received outstanding customer service and communication from Joe Parker. Joe was in charge of making sure everything ran smoothly. Joe is extremely prompt and makes his customers feel like their concerns or questions are top priority. We could tell he took a great deal of pride in his work and wanted to make sure we were happy. As with any project, delays occur and we had some things to work through. Joe did a fantastic job at taking feedback and, although some not always positive, is very good dealing with whatever is put in front of him. Joe stays calm and professional and makes sure, no matter the situation, that in the end the customer is happy, regardless of the lengths he may have to go. Overall we are very happy with our choice to choose Planit Builders. We had the pleasure of meeting various different employees and contractors throughout the project and they are all very respectful and very customer orientated. The quality of work was fantastic! We hoped that choosing Planit would ensure that everything would be taken care of for us and we would not have to worry about anything with our busy schedules. We were very please and this absolutely proved to be the case. I would highly recommend Planit Builders.

    Garage

PlaniIT Builders built our garage and from start to finish we were pleased with every aspect of the process. Our initial meeting with the company was very professional and very well explained. They were straight forward and honest about their prices being on average $1800 more than most companies, but thoughly explained why. We were sold on the fact that they have a great 5 year warranty, and build above code in a number of areas throughout the garage. What pleased us the most was their communication with us during the building process. We were always informed where they were in the building process and what was to come next. The only hold up was pouring our concrete, but that was due to the constant rain we had here in Calgary in May. All of the workers were polite, friendly and professional. In particular, our site manager Joe went above and beyond for us. He was in contact with us on a daily basis and promt with returning calls. In fact, we respect his construction knowledge so much that we will be having our basement developed with PlanIT Building and specifically asking for him to be our site manager again. I would recommend this company to family and friends in a heartbeat and hope that their experience with PlanIT is as amazing as ours!

    Basement development

From the start of the process, when the team came out to quote on the project, we were impressed with the level of professionalism. The finished work is great, Dale was very easy to work with, and we're very happy with the end result! The project: turn an undeveloped, approx 600sqft basement in a 70s 4-level split into: a bedroom, ensuite (no existing rough-ins, but laundry was on this level), laundry/mechanical room, storage room, and coldroom. Timeline: approximately 14 weeks. Details: knockdown ceiling, new egress window, >30sqft walk-in closet, large ensuite, and great selections for finishes. Only cons: a fair bit longer than the original estimate of 9-11 weeks.

Completely Incompetent 13 Month Garage Build

Sales pitch and guarantees upfront were very good we even choose to pay more to go with them. The reason for the garage rebuild was for age and water influx reasons. End result: - Design options were extremely limited - Completely incompetent project management (Mark) - Completely ignored agreed to design (1 foot cemented side curb walls to deal with previous water influx on low lot site) - Project/site manager and cement contractor actively coordinated to get us to say we agreed to the design change of having no cemented side walls (which was much cheaper for them before offering any sort of rebate) - After grudgingly acknowledging their screw up they agreed to correct but the project was intentionally forgotten about and continued at a drizzle pace - Final key hand over was 13 months later in what was promised to be three month max process - Safety issue with two massive holes left in the yard for 6 months that we finally had to fill in ourselves (see photo) - Project incompetence was so bad that the framing contractor could not even match the man door to being in the cement cut out for the door (see photo, unbelievably this was never corrected) - Never cleaned up the site always left in a disaster state - Finally so glad to be done with them completed all the remaining issues ourselves - Have zero confidence in having them back if we have any warranty issues (both for the level of customer service response and their competence to correct any issues)

    Basement renovation

I chose PLANiT Builders to finish my basement because they were great to work with and efficient when they built my garage in 2009. I was not disappointed in the least with Joe and Dale. They were a pleasure to work with. They maintained communication every step of the way and answered any and all questions in a timely manner. They kept my project on schedule, and in the end they actually completed ahead of schedule. The made sure every detail was taken care of, the existing finished areas of my home were protected and left my home clean when all was said and done. Joe is a fantastic site coordinator and I have no doubt Dale will be equally fantastic to work with when he takes on a solo portfolio of his own having been trained by Joe. I had no hesitation recommending PLANiT after my experience in 2009, Now, I strongly encourage anyone to choose PLANiT for any of your home renovation needs! Thank you Joe, Dale and the entire PLANiT team!

    Complete Basement finished

I am very satisfied with my finished product. The staff at Planit assisted me in the selection of finishes and design. It was built with the special items I wanted and it ended up being exactly what I wanted. It is warm, cozy, and meets all codes and inspections. Their employees, particularly Steve Belanger, went out of his way to ensure I was completely satisfied. Everyone who has been over has complimented the finished product and I would be happy to recommend their work to anyone.

    basement

If you want your project finished on time stay away from PLANiT Builders Ltd. They will sell you the idea that they are the biggest basement renovations here in Calgary, that they are very organized company and they can finance your project. It's only now that I realized because they have a lot of project they are not able to cope up with every project. There are weeks that no trade people will show up for work. There will be days that trade people will just work for an hour. What a waste of time!!! With regards to being organized and professional. I completely disagree. How can they call themselves professional and organized if: 1) no trade people showing up for the supposed work for the day. Not days but weeks without trade 2) will make you believe with their work schedule by showing you 2 months of work being schedule on a calendar. They call this Builder Trend but in reality 90 percent of that schedule is not being followed. 3)The signed contract that will show the estimate date of completion means nothing to PLANiT Builders Ltd. On my contract it was stated Sept 17 2014 is the completion date but as of today Sept 26 2014 my basement still has no carpet and laminate flooring no granite counter top and wash room is far from being finished. So where is the professionalism here? And with regards to their selling point that they will finance your project it is best to go with your own bank and applied for the loan because what PLANiT is doing is they will just get your credit information and submit it to the bank anyway. Best if you negotiate with your bank your interest rate. Now if you are reading this review because you are looking for a company to do your basement or garage once again I will advise you to stay away from PLANiT if you want your project finished on time.

    Basement development

Your basement development is probably the single most expensive investment you will make as an addition to your home. I would like to share my Planit builders experience. I see a lot of 10 score reviews on here and I hope that after reading this review people actually go back and check the quality they have or are paying a premium for. I used the reviews on here as a bench mark, I wish I had not, I actually wish I had taken the next most expensive quote and bought a hot tub with what I would have saved. I paid for a top quality (as sold by the salesman) professionally finished basement, I did not in my opinion receive what I paid for. I took my complaint to the BBB but because Planit builders offered to come back in and try to repair the NEWLY FINISHED BASEMENT the BBB was obliged by its own guidelines to accept and close the case. Question is, would you let them back in to your house? Especially if Ryan and Patrick had stood and told you it would not look as good as it does now?? They did offer a $1500.00 payment instead of repairs for problems that they estimated it may take up to a month to fix, I declined this offer. I have out of level ceilings/door frames, bendy walls, lop sided bulkheads, out of square door frames, lump in the ceiling, out of square corners, base boards with gaps in the corners, cabinets with extreme trims to hide variances, paint finishes you can see through, you can see through the door shut in one picture in to the bedroom, WITH THE DOOR CLOSED, the door frame to the bathroom is coming away from the ceiling in another picture and so on. They offered to repair the bulkhead or give me a $350 credit as you will see in one of the emails attached to this review, this was after both of the owners had come to see the basement. Please note that everything was acceptable to them and within ANHW guidelines....They are not members of this program!! I understand they let the framer who did my basement go, wonder why?? Was he not up to the job? On one of the pictures hopefully attached you will see the first page of my estimate, 610sq ft with a charge of $25,528 after it. This is the cost of materials and labour to complete the sq footage, look further down, you want a bedroom? Thats another $1800, second page, You want a bathroom? Thats $6500 more and so on and so on. Everything is an extra all 7 pages of it. Do I use my basement? Yes. Am I happy with the quality? No. Was it worth what I paid? Definitely not. Are there cheaper and better alternatives? Yes. Would I use again or recommend Planit? No. Planit offers everything when the salesman is sitting with you, there are lots of certificates (you will see them all), they can get you the perfect basement at a cost which is fine by me if they can deliver, they did not. People, go down stairs and look closely at what you received/ are receiving. You are paying a premium, expect premium. Thanks for reading, good luck. Steve. I would like to thank Chloe for her response and Planit did indeed complete the BBB correspondance which included offering to 'repair' the BRAND NEW BASEMENT DEVELOPMENT. Simple fact is that they went for sign off in the condition that is obviously sub-standard, couple that with the fact that I tried very hard to work with Planit but when the guys who would oversee the repair dont feel the repair would look as good as the original job it makes you very cautious about doing anything with them. I stand by my original comment that there are better value higher quality (first time) contractors available. Straight, square, plumb and level, basic building quality expectations. Expect better for the premium. #PlanitFail Steve.

    Carriage Suite in Auburn Bay

I had my carriage suite in McKenzie Towne built by Planit back in 2010 and never had a single issue, so when it came to building another carriage suite again in Auburn Bay, it was a no brainer to get Planit to build it. This project was bigger and better, and dealing with Construction Manager Steve and Site Supervisor John who I call my dream team was phenomenal. Responsive, responsible, reliable, high quality work and at a reasonable price. I told them what we want to get done, they got it done and I did not once have to go on site to "check" their work or worry about anything. They kept me in the loop with regular updates. I have never written any reviews on line before but this one is well deserved. I am unbiased and don't get any kickbacks from this, just a really happy customer and would call them again for same projects in the future.
