The concrete walkway at the side of our house was cracking badly and we were starting to have some water infiltration. In late fall, we called three companies for quotes, and Mike Scott gave us the best estimate, while his plan for fixing the problem was the one that made the most sense. We called Mike back in the spring to get the work going, and he came to our house within days. We decided to get some more work done than we had originally told him, and he was able to adjust his written quote on the spot and give us a detailed contract and price. Mike's crew was at our house soon after, and it took less than two weeks to get everything done, which included a lot of removal of old concrete. Mike was on site almost every day to supervise, and kept in constant contact with us to keep us updated. We really like his solution of installing a french drain at the back to direct the water into, away from the house - and the new concrete walkway looks amazing. Mike was a pleasure to deal with, we were confident that the work was high quality and are very satisfied with the result. I would recommend hiring Mike Scott in a heartbeat!

Overall I have not been satisfied with our waterproofing because the wrong approach was recommended and we have spent a lot of money only to find that our basement continues to leak. Mike came to provide a free estimate just a day or two after I filled out an online request which was great. I liked his no-frills attitude and on-site quote within a few minutes of reviewing the house. He recommended outside waterproofing even with our semi-detached home in mid-town Toronto where we have a narrow alleyway. Digging would have to be done manually but his crew finished the job in only 3 days and I was impressed. When I first wrote my review I stated that it was based only on my experience working with Mike and his crew, not based on the quality of the work as it had not yet rained and we couldn't test it out. I had planned to write an update after a couple of rainfalls. Very disappointingly we found out quickly that water continued to leak into our basement with the heavy rainfall through June (and continues now). After several consulations and failed attempts at remedying the situation through simple fixes such as ensuring our eavestroughs were cleared, one of his guys took down part of our basement wall to assess the problem. Within half an hour it was clear that our lowered basement had not been done to code (from years ago long before we ever moved in). The exterior waterproofing was not doing anything to fix our leakage and had he looked at this at the beginning Mike would not have recommended exterior waterproofing at all. Although it is not Mike's fault that our basement was not lowered to code, it is his responsiblity to assess the situation as best as he can before proposing a solution. He did come down to our basement and could see that it was lowered. Being such an old home (100 years) I think Mike could have done his due dilligence and suggested a quick check by looking behind part of the wall, which is what he ultimately did anyway. I had told him that we planned to finish the basement after the waterproofing was done so taking down part of a wall at this time is no issue at all. I will not be able to comment ever on the quality of the exterior waterproofing seeing as we need an interior fix now to solve our leaking issue. Selling someone on an incorrect solution means you should be held at least partly responsible or accountable. My husband and I are truly frustrated with this experience and strongly suggest anyone with a lowered basement to know what they are dealing with before going with the exterior waterproofing route. We are hoping to recover some of our expenses from Mike to put towards an interior fix now.

A challenging job completed on time with meticulous attention to detail. Recently Mike and his excellent crew rebuilt, pargeted and waterproofed a section of my crumbling basement wall which had leaked badly during wet periods. Mike is knowledgeable and professional in his understanding of these issues and how to repair them. His estimates are fair and he always took the time to address any questions we asked. The polite crew were conscientious and diligent in their assignments and thorough in their daily cleanups. I would most certainly ask for his assistance in the future and would recommend you do as well.

We had significant water coming into our basement along the driveway wall despite parging work being done last year; it was time for full waterproofing. Mike Scott was one of three contractors I called for a quote; he responded promptly, came by as scheduled, and produced a timely quote, competitively priced and provided good local references. We chose Mike, and scheduled a time a few weeks out. Mike was actually able to start earlier than planned. His crew was professional, friendly, quiet and neat, and finished up the work slightly ahead of schedule. Mike and the team responded quickly to any questions or concerns we had, including responding after completion to minor issues which seem unrelated to the job done. We've had a major storm just after completion of the work, and everything seems fine. Mike can be somewhat hard to reach during the day, but responds in a timely fashion after hours. I would have no hesitation using Mike for future waterproofing/concrete work

Mike and his team just completed waterproofing work on the back and side of my house. He was very good about keeping me posted on the progress and i was impressed with how the team always kept everything neat and tidy after a day's work. The finished product looks great and I'm looking forward to bringing his team back for additional work in the spring.

Mike and his crew came to replace a good chunk of the brick and mortar on the side of my house. He gave me a reasonable quote which did not change after the job had been completed. His crew was polite and kept the work site clean. The job started on time and finished when Mike said it would be. I am very happy with the work that was done. I look forward to hiring him again in the spring to work on other projects of my old house!

We hired M Scott Home Improvements again, after the company did some work for us earlier this year. This time we wanted to have the back of our home waterproofed and parged, and the concrete walkway we share with our neighbours replaced. His team is great - none of them smoke and they are very polite and tidy. It was a pleasure to have them on site. The quality of the workmanship is excellent and the cost reasonable.

Mike responded quickly to my call. When he came by to look at the job, he was very knowledgeable and professional and took time to answer questions. Mike gave clear explanation of the work that would be done and an accurate quote which he stuck to. When it came time to do the project, Mike and his crew worked quickly and were super courteous. They kept the work site clean and organized. When the floor was poured, they machine troweled the slab and the result was a smooth, level slab. I would recommend Mike and M Scott home improvements to anyone looking for a skilled and dependable concrete contractor.

I contacted Mike after requiring a mutual concrete (narrow) walkway laid between my house and my neighbors house. Mike promptly setup a time to inspect the area and provide a competitive quote. Mike's team started working as soon as possible (weather permitting) and the finished job is a perfectly sloped walkway to the curb. I would recommend Mike's services and will definitely look to go with him in the future.

Mike and his team did an awesome job in replacing 43' of sinking concrete against our garage. We found Mike to be reasonable, professional and responsive to our requirements. The job was completed in a week. I would definitely call him again for any other concrete work I need to get done. (10-10-10)
