    Replace air conditioner and furnace

Had them replace the furnace and air conditioner. Agreed to the terms on the quote which included 5 year parts and labor warranty. After the job is done, the following spring air condioner is malfunctioning and service guy comes to add coolant. Then the next year, same malfunction happens and this service guy is kind enough to tell me that the original installer screwed up with the install. He calls his office and the lady on the other end tells him I am responsible for the repair cost. But I have a 5 year warranty! But on the bill of sale it stipulates that the warranty is in effect ONLY if I pay them for annual maintenance. I call this a bait a switch because no where on the quote did it state that. For a company that has been in business that long, I was extremely disappointed by their tactics, and would never recommend them. I give them 2 stars only because furnace is still working.

    Answer from pro:

Dear Bones of Richmond Hill, Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience with Summers and Smith. We understand how important it is to homeowners to obtain warranties on the equipment they purchase. However, it is required—and policy—by both the manufactures and Summers and Smith, that regular maintenance is completed. This is to ensure that repairs and problems are not a result due to neglect, or lack of maintenance. Maintenance also allows us to discover potential problems, and resolve them in a timely manner. Please refer to either your purchase of sale, or homeowners manual for further detail. We would be more than happy to review options on potentially reinstating your warranty, or offer you the Summers and Smith’s Elite Program. This program presents our customers an opportunity to purchase a protection program for their equipment. As a result, the program assures a guaranteed peace of mind, by knowing you and your system will be taking care of. Do not hesitate to contact our service department, as we are here to help, and there is always a solution  Yours Truly, The Customer Care Team @ S&S

    Gas furnace. And Water heater

From our talk with the salesman to the installation of the Lenox furnace and water heater everything was handled in a professional efficient manner including any rebates coming from the gas company and getting rid of my old oil tank. The price was competive. After 1 1/2 years the furnace has operated trouble free. It comes with a 10 year warranty. When the Enbridge inspector came he said he could tell that the instalation was done by one of the better companies because all the little extra things that don't have to be done to meet code were done He said these extras just made the job neater in appearance.

Install Central Air in Residence May '05

Quick and responsive. Saved me the cost of a service call by giving me a maintenance tip. My only beef was the debris they left after the installation was completed.

    Gas Fireplace Insert

I previously posted a positive review on Summers and Smith but I wanted to add this. After talking with numerous installers and 5 quotes we decided to use Summers and Smith for a new gas fireplace insert(We had a furnace installed before). Everything went smoothly but after the install we realized there was a loud bang sound as the unit heated up. To make a long story short we have spent the last 3 months working with Summers and Smith and the manufacturer to troubleshoot the problem. We ended up changing the unit 3 times until the problem was fixed. What I thought was relevant enough to write a review on was that Summers and Smith really went to bat for us with the manufacturer. They really stayed on it until we ended up happy. It was really nice not to have this turn into a battle between reseller, manufacturer and customer. They stuck with it until all was resolved and earned a loyal customer because of it. Their prices were competitive but this level of service is invaluable.

    Furnace, AC and HRV installation

We recently replaced our Furnace and AC unit and added an HRV. After 5 quotes we decided to go with Summers and Smith in Aurora for the Lennox product they sell, the promise of a good installation and a fair price. We had cheaper quotes but when you compared the products and the proposed installations it seemed to be the best value. Blair came by the house to give us a quote and walk us through all the intricacies of the new high efficiency furnaces, the proper sizing and the rebates. The installation happened quickly and cleanly. I was impressed with the time they took to do it right. Steve the lead installer made sure there were no shortcuts to save materials, decisions about where to put venting were made on what was best for the house. It's only been a short while but so far we are very happy and I would definitely include them on your list of companies to get a quote from.
