We recently purchased a Smart Air Pulsed Humidifier from Reliance Home Comfort which was installed by their technicians on December 30, 2013. This is our first whole house humidifier so we decided to go with a company, we thought, could be relied upon in terms of quality of products and services. Anyway our furnace, hot water tank and security system, which were all builder-related installations, are from Reliance. Since humidifier is a much simpler system than the rest of these installations plus an actual home visit from a Reliance Home Comfort advisor, made us confident in our decision to go with Reliance after making some comparisons with companies such as Service Experts, Aire One Heating & Cooling, etc. But as it turned out, Reliance failed and disappointed us big time!
The following day after the humidifier was installed, I started seeing moisture build-up on the window glass panels. I lowered the humidity setting several times from Dec. 31, 2013 to Jan. 2, 2014 hoping to get the right level of humidity inside the house. From the initial setting of 40% (set by the Reliance technicians), I lowered it down to 10% and eventually turned it off on the evening of Jan. 2nd. For several days, I tried to wipe our windows dry as every morning when I woke up, the windows and the window sills were literally soaking in water. On Jan. 2nd, I called Reliance for service and was told that the earliest they could look into it was on Jan. 3 at 7-11PM. When we went home from work on Jan 2, we were shocked to find ice build-up on all of our windows, both on the glass panels and window sills. I again called Reliance for emergency service and the customer service representative told me that a technician would be coming over at 7-11AM on Jan 3. I waited and nobody came. I then called Russ Beaman, Sales Supervisor at the Burlington office and learned from him that they didn’t have any available technician on that day as the company was overwhelmed with “no heating” service calls. Finally on January 5, Andrew, a Reliance technician came over. He told us that the installation was faulty and that the control wasn’t working properly which was the reason behind the excess humidity. He also found out that the water valve was loose due to thread problem. Now I knew, why the installers sternly warned me “not to touch” the water valve.
I am wondering, if the installers sent by Reliance in the first place were really capable and properly trained of doing the job. Or maybe because the $$$ amount of the work we ordered was just a speck in their income that was why Reliance couldn’t care less if we, as customers would be satisfied or not.
Our house is a 2-level detached home which is just over 2 years old. Now we are left with damaged windows because of an improperly installed humidifier from Reliance Home Comfort.
