    removal of hot water tank

Called Reliance to pick up the 20+ year old hot water tank that had leaked in my basement, because we had replaced it with a tankless model. I was then informed it would cost me $65.00 for them to pick it up, or we could buy it out for $40.00, or we could drop it off at their office. This is how they treat long term customers? The woman I was talking to then tried to get me to rent the tankless model through a buy back program at $39.00 a month. Other places offer the rental of tankless models for $22.00 a month. This company is only concerned with making money and not customer satisfaction. I will never rent or buy anything from this company again, as well, I will never recommend this company to anyone. They didn't even appologize for the mess their tank made in my basement.

    A/C Furnace

They started at 7am and stayed until 11pm at night. It was a really hot day and they worked through that without stopping,as there was a leak in the air conditioner. After they couldn't fix it they ended up replacing it the next day - they were very good. But previous to this when they were trying to sell both the furance and air conditioner they pushed into a 14 seer A.C. because of the gov/grant. Later on we found out that we were mislead not only by Reliance, but also by ecoENERGY who did the blow test. We then found out we would not be getting the 200.00 dollar federal or the matching provincial grant.

    Tankless water heater rental

Reliance is charging me $110 for 3 months to rent tankless water heater. I did a bit of research and found same water heater for about $1100 with taxes. So I decided to buyout rather than rent it, since the water heater had very minimum mechanical parts and made in Japan. I enqured Reliance about buyout option and Reliance told me $2400. Then I told Reliance to remove the tank from my property, I was told that they would charge me $360 for that (all sort of charges, one of them is to drain...i don't really get it). I bought a new home I didn't not chose Reliance. TOO EXPENSIVE. MY DAD BOUGHT A HOUSE IN 2001 AND WATER TANK RENTAL WAS $15/MONTH. Same tank Reliance is renting for $22/month. TELL YOUR BUILDER NOT TO CHOSE RELIANCE!!!

    Hotwater tank rental

Reliance has very poor customer service. I replaced the tank with tankless and wanted to return their old tank which they said will be scrapped. They charged me $40 tank drop off fees and $65 account closing fees. Very shady business practices because at the time of rental they specifically said there is no account closing fees. The customer service rep basically said they changed the rules and there is nothing I as a customer can do.

    Water heater removal and instalation

We called reliance and they send someone to our house to install the new heater. He didn't have the correct tank in the car so he gave us a quote and left. He said if we left it under the stairs it would cost a lot in piping but if we moved it against the wall (which was not dead space at the time), it would fit under the alotted pipe budget. He also told us it as $50 for a power vent but we were ok with that. Another crew came a different day and installed it against the wall. My s/o asked if it was exactly what I had agreed to (they said yes) and then he signed the work order. No prices or additional costs were mentioned. When our bill showed up there was a $300 excess instalation fee. We call and call and call and they always have an excuse about why they will call us back later.... but never call back later. I don't care how many days it takes someone to send you a fax, how often the manager goes to conferiences or how long it takes you to manually pull my file- you should be able to deal with customer inquries in less than a week... it's been nearly a month and I'm so sick of calling 3x a week just to get te run around from different customer service people.

Water Heater Service / Tank Upgrade.

We recently moved into our new construction home and we were furious to find out the Reliance Hot Water tank not functional. We called their customer service line and were redirected a few times. When we finally got someone to listen to our issue they sent someone to have a look at the tank the next day, not the current day. The first company they called could not fix the tank as they did not have the parts. They had to call around for the part they needed. I called Reliance back telling them of the urgency of not having hot water, so they sent another company out the following day. The second company was able to fix the unit, but we are extremely upset that we were without hot water for three days!! I would not recommend going with Reliance just on the fact that they do not do any work in house. Prior to this issue, we spoke to Jennifer Hurd regarding getting a Tankless Hot Water instead of the standard heater and her communication was terrible. Her promises unfulfilled. She never told us what was going on. We always had to follow up. Overall extremely disappointed in Reliance. I would pay to leave this company!

    Furnace & Air Conditioner Servicing

Since having our central air installed, it never really cooled our home down. For 3 seasons it remained humid, damp and rather uncomfortable no matter what temp the system was set at. Despite having it serviced many times, the answer was always the same - it was installed properly and it was just our furnace getting too old We were told it was time to replace it. With limited dollars, we decided to get a second opinion. A smaller, independant local company came in and did their magic. Needless to say, from that time on, we finally had a properly functioning & cooled home during the summer months. Seems that Reliance never installed the system properly in the first place. A word of caution - just because a company works with the energy supplier doesn't mean they are always right about everything. When in doubt, get a second opinion before spending money. Bravo to the small business contractor - bigger isn't always better. I can only recall the reps name as Jim.

    Leasing a water heating tank

We just moved into a new house in West Oakville and received a letter from Reliance Home Comfort to pay 20/m for a hot water tank. This is three times as much as we paid in Toronto. They demand an automatic payment from our bank account, with an option to take more money at their discretion. For this priveledge, they also charge $35 Administrative fee. We have tried to unsuccessfully contact them for days. All we received is demand for money, no details of contract, nothing about what services would be supplied under this pricey contract and no one ever calls back when we leave a message. In my opinion this is a total rip off.
