Thermal insulation: Attached House; Facade; 50 - 150 sq ft

We are in an old Victorian row house. The kitchen was added later off the back. It has no basement and is attached to neighbours on one side only. The kitchen has always been colder than the rest of the house but we think that at least some of the insulation on the unattached side has been removed/damaged by creatures in recent winters. The kitchen seemed even colder last winter. We've had both rats and squirrels in the walls at different times. The back and side walls of the kitchen are covered with aluminum siding. How can fresh insulation be added? Does the siding necessarily need to be removed?
